Writing to Jesus

I take my pen, hesitant to write
poetries, moments so tender, alive
like the music that choruses
through my spirit, in inklings of light
breathless verses, visions
coloring pages with what survives
my last 60 years,
the days when I knew, beyond
stirrings of hope, inspirations
notes of serenity – faded
feelings, blessings
remembering what it means to be
part of something much bigger than me,
part of the wind, the air, the sea
part of the moment when He gave to me
the wonder of knowing
He is alive in the wind, in the fires
in the lives who survive their fears
in the hearts who believe
in the souls who may grieve
but always see there is peace
erasing the confusion
inviting love to reassure
to complete the one who sees His beauty
in the rising Son, the music
the rhythms of light and truth
the joy that comes from discovering
the grace that always stays
the love that makes a way
even when I fail to pray

I take my pen, uncertain, shy even
because, how – oh how can I write this friend
the One who silenced my tears
the One who stayed with me, through the years
the One who hushed the worst fears
the One who makes my heart see
even in darkness, He is alive inside me
He is light and He inspires me
He is the One who survives my shadows
reignites my fire when it’s fading,
revives my spirit when it’s crumbling,
kindles a strength
that forgets all my weakness
assures me that He’s courageous
more fearless than I can imagine
braver than I can explain

When it comes to the Lord Jesus
my pen seems so very pathetic –
it goes limp in my hand
as I write the words that I might try to hide
if I didn’t know – the winner of my soul,
He is grace and peace and hope
He is love that knows no doubt
He is the source of life everlasting
He is the reason I’m singing this song,
a melody that lasts,
even when I’m wrong
a melody that never changes
it is forever living in me,
the song of joy that comes from knowing
the One whose love is beyond defining
His love is more alive than any feeling
it reveals a warmth that is wholehearted,
a grace that never lets go
assurance that, whatever may come,
I have One who saves me from harm
I have One who gave me hope
I have One who is the light of my heart
I have One who is writing my story
with a pen that came down from glory,
on a page that is called the Book of Life
where He writes all the names
for whom He made His sacrifice!

I don’t always know what to write
But I do know this Jesus
Who writes my spirit in fire
Who writes my heart in light
Who writes my story in faith
Who is the amazing in every grace
With Him beside me,
I’ll never be afraid to face
		the darkest storms, the shame
all those things that make me afraid
because I know, with Him
I never need fear… because He is love
and love is the definition of GOOD –
He’s a good, good God
and, with Him, I’m always sure
love is the answer to everything
love is the reason my pen never grieves
love is the rhythm in each poetry
love is the purpose that I’ll forever believe
brings me through it all,
	to serve the Master’s call
		and, yes, I may fall…
but, because I know this Savior
I’ll always have a place to land
He will always understand
He loves me despite my sin!
