Tale Best Told to Family

It sounded like violent thunder
Like Thor’s hammer beating triple time
We watched the hill, wondering if it was them
We had heard about the five wild mustangs for centuries
They were in great-granddaddy’s prophecy
They are here! My father declared.
We watched them pound down the hill
They disappeared halfway through the meadow
Never tell the tale, Daddy warned me
That was a psychic phenomena
Best told only to other family
For some are not believers
I was five and did not understand
But I am seventy-two now, so I do.
