Preacher Man Poems

Preacher Man

The Holy man has come to preach,
It is me he is trying to reach,
He is shouting and we lock eyes,
Right then I realize,
That he can see,
The devil in me.

Sweat is popping out on my forehead,
And I am beginning to dread,
That I ever came here,
What is it that I fear?
He asks what I am going to do.
I know what he says is true.

That I should live a life that is good,
And treat others better if I could,
I’ve lived a life not thinking of others,
After all, aren’t we sisters and brothers?
I turned my back on my creator,
I figured I’d have time later.

Is this really the Spirit calling me?
Or am I just feeling guilty?
So I am faced with a choice,
Is it time to submit to God’s voice?
Preacher Man wants me to see,
The bottom line is that God loves me.

Preacher Man

the crazy preacher man
he speaks
to me
I and the crowd
hypnotised
confused
and squinting
his shadow stands
before the sun
his silver words
are slivering
forth from ancient nets
fisher of men
gathering
it may be so
maybe it was
ever so
and so
some say
it may well
ever be
yet know ye this
that nothing new
shall ever stand
against the sun
and speak as He

Last Song of the Preacher Man

Cold gentle nights,
as owls wings flutter of these same ole lights,
I'm a sayin ,"you my good friend",
for the same ole empty faces, doin the same ole sin.

Cursed you, do these things to me,
for my body is a dangling from beyond the tree,
is it only in you i see,
just the same ole friendly me.

Why it is you hate me boss,
I know that all things are taken with a cost,
remember the nights the gentle frost,
when i spoke of the blessings when all was lost.

But the same ole empty faces, doin the same ole sin,
i knew you was just like um, but still my friend,
a letter to you, still my good friend!!!

Preacher Man

Oh, preacher man,
You whisk away my breath
With your words.
You whisk away my heart
With your lips.
You whisk away my soul
With your touch.
Living each night
Within secret passion,
We hide ourselves away,
Discreetness a must,
For we are sinners
In their tainted eyes.
Yet our love is Godly true.
But from sometime unknown
In our guilty pleasures,
A new life is created,
A new life is born.
And no longer can we live
In our secret bliss,
Madness rises in the crowds,
They chastise us,
They stone me,
And place this letter upon my breast,
For everyone to see my sin.
The time is coming,
Death awaits me,
Oh preacher man,
Lift your eyes to God, and pray,
Rip away this letter
From my breast,
Burn it to ashes,
Then whisk us away
From these God fearing sinners.

Preacher Man

Preacher man

A month has passed and I still
Have the gift for the needy to fulfill
I prayed every moment of the day
For His voice to convey

Early for work I stopped for tea
There sat a man across from me
His skin was blue breathing was shallow
A dad whose life hangs in the gallows

A frantic son, a dying father, and me
Mercy rose “How much do you need?”
Twenty- five dollars the son replied
Who are you? Jesus sent me to apply

His mercy toward those He has chosen
Your season in the wilderness is unfrozen
Today deliverance unlocks all your doors
Return home clean house and sweep the floors

Handing them the money a smile hit my face
A month later, He called me to meet at his place
Opening the door stood a healthy man who shined
Dressed in fine clothes acting so refined

Do I know you sir? I asked “Yes” you do
I am the man from the coffee shop who was blue
The church across the street is my parish anew
I got lost and was restored because of you

This is a true story from my life
Always see another’s needs
You never know where
Your journey will lead

Preacher Man Blues (Inspired By Langston Hughes)

Preacher man said..."Put another dolla' in the plate!"
Preacher man said..."Put another dolla' in the plate!"
I got my blessin' on lay-away;
Don't know how long I gotta wait!
Preacher man asked..."How long did you suffer?"
Preacher man asked..."How long did you suffer?"
I said, "It ain't over yet,
'Cuz these problems are gettin' tougher!"
Preacher man asked..."Where did your faith go?"
Preacher man asked..."Where did your faith go?"
I been leakin' for years;
I ain't got nothin' left to show!
Preacher man said..."You ain't supposed to be tired!"
Preacher man said..."You ain't supposed to be tired!"
I ain't got no mo' dollars' to give,
Because I just got fired!
Preacher man said..."Lay your burden down!"
Preacher man said..."Lay your burden down!"
I put them six feet under,
But they came right back out of the ground!
Preacher man passed the plate...One mo' time.
Preacher man passed the plate...One mo' time.
I just gave him a dollar;
Now, he wants my last dime!

Preacher Man

He greets them at the big oak doors
To bring them in can be a chore

His words are smooth, he’s full of charm
They have no clue he means them harm

They wear their best amongst the pews
Big hats, fine silks, and fancy shoes

It’s your soul he says he’ll reach
But he don’t practice what he preach

As he stands there all puffed up
He scans the crowd for new young fluff

Pass the plate and get them dollars
Now lift your voice to sing and holler

Yes he spews his babble rot
And takes from lambs who have not

His wife she sits with downcast eyes
And bears the burden of his lies

High above where God sees all
Preacher man he’s gonna fall
