ROSE
blushing
twirling stem
newly together
with future husband, I
personify gift: “water”
“Pluckiness of youth - dying rose”

When people face great danger
without retreating- oh this is courage!
It takes bravery and a dauntless spirit to endure
in times of adversity. I have the guts
when it really counts.
It also takes great fortitude
and firmness and strength of mind
and resolution to speak up for what you believe.
It is the tenacity to just keep going,
I will never claim defeat.
It is the nerve and pluckiness
to take a risk in life- oh this is courage!
I have buried all my beloved and still I go on.
Deep inside me is a fire burning
and I just rise above.
I have seen things on the news,
people whose lives are totally destroyed,
yet they pick up the pieces- oh this is courage!
And this thing called courage, I think
has many, many names.
