Just as it’s not always so
First thought is best thought
There’s always exceptions to the rule
Or to put it directly,
Rules are made to be broken,
Or more charitably
Rules are by nature fluid
Suited to conditions which are always
By definition conditional.
And so my rule of thumb for poetry
Less is more
Jostles with the other three axioms of creation;
Less is less
More is less
More is more
Always needing to be considered
In the broader context
Of what is being said
And to whom.

Static from minds ecstatic
Lively from minds elastic
Passion from minds romantic
Impression from minds pedantic
Bizarre from minds frantic
From Cro-Magnon to Warhol’s antics
Art pleas images and not semantics.
PEDANTIC? – WHO ME?
You say that I’m pedantic
But that’s not precisely true.
Pedantic is not the right word,
As I’ll explain to you.
I’ve checked the Oxford Dictionary,
Which I know you’ll find insidious.
But really dear you ought to know,
The word you want is ’fastidious’

How easy to live
on lies and stale air
to color within the lines
of pedantic pages
pleased with the accomplishment
of a predetermined outcome
How easy to flow with the
Current of the incarcerate river running
Between banks that will
Never be robbed nor deposited
You must go your own way believing
The river is a God that has only
The best intentions on a trip from
Here to some unknow elsewhere
Nameless space on blank pages
Turned with only the warning
Of another days dawning on
A mission of false forming
of what seems to be the variant
of another recondite day
you must be carefully taught
all aspects of the universe
complete and utterly covered
in a tome of spiritual verse
you must be carefully taught
who you must hate and who to love
has all been handed down from
commandments from somewhere above
you must be carefully taught
strict adherence to beliefs of past
you must be careful of thought
keep to your clan and your caste
you must be carefully taught
and not question line in case
saints and prophets distraught
banish life itself in disgrace
you've got to be carefully taught
there's no point except the knife
to waiver from those said anointed
to guarantee some eternal life
you must be carefully taught
you've got to be carefully taught
you'll get tied up in a French knot
you've got to be careful - a lot
