"Go in a haste. Come in a pace". Mary Coleman
She was saying, 'Get on with it'.
She was saying, 'Be a pacesetter'.
It's what my grandmother often said.

Oh My, The Sun Is Falling - Nursery Rhyme
Chicken lil' one,
"Sky's falling, run",
now he knows why it's getting hotter,
It's not the sky,
but sun, here's why,
naught falling but heating up faster,
An apple fell,
and nut did tell,
to run and hide, things will get better,
No sky did fall,
still, all appall,
we thought, next time we'd be the wiser,
Chicken lil' -- naught,
*Leo, who got,
the world to note, he's a pacesetter,
Millennium,
twice -- twenty-one,
since science named it -- to the letter.
This nursery rhyme means, What we call, "Global Warming",
we used to call, "Summer".

Some have lost the ability to use their head,
And depend on gadgets to get by instead.
A Phone, Pod, or tablet now fills each hand,
And in certain venues they should be banned.
I’ve sat in church and observed others texting,
And this, to me, has become quite perplexing.
Distracted, I think, why even bother to come,
As I muse, why this, they can’t refrain from.
“Techies” can’t wait for Apple’s latest upgrade,
While I sit thinking they’re just being played.
Like sheep they stand in line at a local store,
To be fleeced for a device they’ve fallen for;
Technology has made our lives so much better,
Giving us aspirations of being the pacesetter;
Technology, now, is nearing an insane extreme,
But an enormous boost to poor self esteem;
Awaken Giant of Africa!
Awaken oh Nigerians!
To a battery of fresh ideas
A synagogue of truce
An altar of oneness
To thee, I call, ‘awaken’.
Be not asleep
To the insomnia of your rivals
Gather up materials
And let your minds think
Your voices speak
Your hands create
Do not delay
For to thee, I call, ‘awaken’
Unique and meek
Green and white we chose at last
The final phase of the battle
Excited and united
Let us together
Eat sweet laughter
Preserved without voucher
Energized without charger
An impact maker
A solution carrier
A record breaker
A pacesetter
The wonder of many nations
Amazement filled with potential
Our validity is eternal
We rock
They Mocked
We Blocked
They Crawled
We rule
With proof
Full of discipline
It's true
For we are,
Yes! We are Nigerians!
ALAKPLE
From the borders of Ketu, here I stand
I command you, my stranger
Go far, far beyond the land of Keta
Cross the lagoon, Nonobe, Awalifi and Ledzor
Beyond, there is an abode
A giant piece stuck among the lot of six villages
It's Alakple, the pacesetter
Taste my offer
All what you think, you heard, you wish
If not convinced, come tomorrow
I have a big place, a comfort on a straw mats: I promise
For all who wish to know me
Alakple, icons of forgotten heroes
Home of Nyigbla, home of Kotoka
I boast not but call thee mine
Nearer to my bossom, I call my children
Where I quest you crave, yakayake and tillapia chowder
One thing, marvels
Just a lot about me not known
That had clouded your mind as fallacies
"A village beyond the lagoon"
But....
Whatever, whenever to thee, I shall return
Mother, my land, Alakple
From ten years absence, please call me back.
America is a diverse and beautiful land,
Mountainous peaks to the warm ocean sand;
Everyone welcomed to life's liberty,
Reliable refuge for you and for me.
Illustrious giant of innovation-
Commitment to aide fragile nations:
America, the pacesetter of modern civilization!
The loss of ink
Unable to think
It's been awhile
Have I lost my
style?
The thoughts
come racing
And now I'm pacing
Because your
next thought
Isn't quite your
own
I should have
known
All along
That everyone else
Would tell
you
You've always
been wrong.
