Dear America,
We're doing fine without you up here.
We're relaxing, drinking our superior beer.
We're vacationing in our beautiful backyard.
Life without you really isn't that hard.
We're following the latest international trends
by looking elsewhere to make new friends.
Our economy's outpacing the entire G7
and our trade surplus is way ahead of break-even.
So, feel free to inform your president moron,
there's no hard feelings - we've just moved on.
Sincerely,
Canada

The playing field level
your words versus mine
A race to forever
embedded in rhyme
The score has been tied
neither side giving ground
Both phrases and couplets
inscribed to astound
It’s late in the game
when a stanza takes off
Outpacing the others
no images lost
As darkness approaches
but one voice remains
Returned from the heavens
— posterity claimed

Teen Suicide
Miracle Man
2/9/2022
A beautiful flower self plucked from time,
too quickly outpacing a child’s playtime.
Growing up too quickly for a girl her age,
social media had made her a bird in a cage.
At twelve years, with reality, she was out of touch,
The stresses of acceptance had become too much.
Being accepted by others had become her goal,
once more suicide had claimed a young soul.

I think love requires
little more than willing –
if doors and windows
are closed and shuttered,
fresh air and sunlight
cannot find a healing sliver –
but slightly ajar, light and
warmth begin to restore
blessed comfort-places –
For love is truly mystical,
transcending logic and
all reason; outpacing Time
and Space's trackless, furthest
distance –
we are born for fondly dreaming
our heart's cravings, when properly
in tune, likened to the silvered
strings of angelic harps –
Men may try to take all joy from life...
But God has The Last Word – which is
always, Love!

Death and Taxes
Death enters our lives and fear draws its breath
each day that we wake until it leaves us in death
Outpacing mortality would surely set man free
to leave our worries behind in total transcendency
Fear motivates anxiety, causing concern and dissension
physical and mental burdens of overwhelming contention
We are encircled by fear like Earth upon its axis
Trepidation intimidates us like death and taxes
There are only two ways in which to overcome fear
To become immortal or die, it’s simply that clear
Don’t allow darkness to capture our heart and mind
Facing crippling fears head on will keep them confined
Fear anchors itself in the roots of fears that we feel
Once we stop feeding them, our maladies will heal

Recalling the Time
Written: by Tom Wright
3/10/2014
I can recall, in pictorial thought, the time,
When reaching my point of desperation;
Envisioning faintly, a death bell’s chime,
Feeling confused I confronted damnation;
Thus far in life executing on my own,
I reasoned that I was above the test;
Only later regretting some deed I’d sown,
That I thought perhaps was of my best.
Often in my sub-conscious I’d be settled,
That what I was experiencing was sure.
Sound advice commonly left me nettled,
And in solitude I reached out for a cure;
Just then a miraculous thing happened,
Far outpacing a childlike understanding;
God cleansed the heart once blackened,
Bringing peace and a life less demanding;
For from my body He had uprooted cancer,
Inducing psyche to feel faintly muzzy;
For serving a risen Savior was the answer,
Transforming my life into warm and fuzzy;

Another summer of black bullet and white heat rhetoric.
The tally is in and once again, black tears outpacing death.
Fiery marchers adding another link to Martin Luther's chain.
Bull horns blowing out poison balls of rubber room insane.
The innocent are forever gifted to the cool uncaring earth.
With hanging head we ponder, what's a poor life really worth.
Enter the smoke and cracked mirror of onion paper blame.
Water colored common sense, sent bleeding down the drain.
Time tosses a mint of forgiveness into the mouth of death.
'til the dove inherits another black bullet to the breast.

The intrinsic beauty
of the present moment
Exploding our consciousness
rewriting the hymn
Outracing the words

Night traffic is
streaming white lights
coming toward the car
speeding away red
honking and puffing
outpacing the horse
and not tiring
the mad goose
faster than the one behind
never at the head of the line.

The songbirds chirp, praising the sun,
nestled in the leaves of the trees:
and the air is abuzz with bees.
Outpacing Spring, Summer has won
and I sweat in sweltering heat:
as peonies bloom, smelling sweet.
Spring's short days and long nights are done
and in Summer's extended light
hatchlings fledge: preparing for flight.
It's time to relax and have fun,
go swimming or tan on the beach:
but keep some sunscreen within reach.
Kick up your heels, go for a run
and take in a game of baseball:
or go camping: it'll soon be Fall.
The songbirds chirp, praising the sun;
outpacing Spring, Summer has won.
Spring's short days and long nights are done:
it's time to relax and have fun.
Kick up your heels; go for a run.

I jogged, one foot after the other,
Lungs wide open to welcome,
Breathings of the warm evening air,
Eyes stung at the touch of
Cruel sweat, saturated and salty.
I jogged, a flat branch overhead,
My left arm reached out to touch
The tree and its clippings,
Dwindling down the serpent's throat,
Though my fingers were amiss.
I jogged, against the moving air,
Soles hitting the ground aloud,
Bullets firing as if the sound,
Outpacing the farthest person,
All was fair and square.
