Constanza
The Constanza created by Connie Marcum Wong consists of five or more 3-line stanzas. Each line eight syllables. All the first lines of all the stanzas form an independent poem as the rest of the poem expresses a deeper meaning. The first lines are in mono-rhyme while the second and third lines of each stanza rhyme together. Rhyme scheme: a/b/b a/c/c a/d/d a/e/e a/f/f.........etc. And the end verse is made up of the first lines of all the previous verses combined.
Songbirds chirp praises to the sun;
hidden in the leaves of the trees,
while the air is abuzz with bees.
In its race with Spring, Summer won;
sweating in the sweltering heat
as peonies bloom, smelling so sweet.
The short days and long nights are done;
in Summer's splendiferous light
hatchlings fledge, preparing for flight.
It's time to relax and have fun;
go swimming or tan on the beach
just keep some sunscreen within reach.
Kick up your heels, go for a run;
watch a friendly game of baseball
or camp out; it'll soon be Fall.
Songbirds chirp praises to the sun;
in its race with Spring, Summer won.
The short days and long nights are done;
it's time to relax and have fun,
kick up your heels; go for a run.
