Under a dark sky and a glistening half moon
I walk quietly, lest I awaken the sun
As I and the trees silently commune
Melding in the energy of the universal One.
Majestic royal palms that stretch to the sky
Lift my soul up to their heady heights
Catching my breath in a wondrous sigh
Sensing their view of the celestial sights.
From Kamehameha Avenue to Liloa Rise
Comes the fragrance of the plumeria trees
That makes sweet thoughts in my mind arise
From these delicate blossoms that sensually please.
Downslope to O'ahu Avenue
On the corner awaits a dear old friend -
A massive monkeypod with the power to imbue
Its strength and healing it's happy to lend.
I thank the mango trees for their tasty treasures
And delight in the poinciana's flaming orange dance
The awesomeness of trees is beyond all measures
As is their value to the lives they enhance.
I wend my way home to begin my day
With this vision of nature's sanctity.
In my heart it will always be tucked away -
A testament to life's generosity..

The shade of a monkeypot tree
Is as cool as the shade can be
But monkeypod pox
Can chill city blocks
So please keep your distance from me!
n.b. FIVE cases of monkeypod pox
reported in Honolulu, where
monkeypots are called monkeypods

Books
They've been my trusty friends
During these days of isolation
While the virus preys on humanity
They have offered consolation.
When I venture out for my errands
I always take one with me
Beneath a spreading monkeypod tree
I open the pages and feel free.
Free to roam about and explore
A carefree adventurous world
Where intriguing people and cultures dwell
And an alternate reality has unfurled.
Far better than a YouTube video
Books illumine the imagination
Lightening the heaviness in the heart
Bringing up hope and inspiration.

Caren, whose poetry sings with grand plumage,
swims with bouquets of flowers and such. You
inspire me! And aloha to William :)

Hawaii islands erupting with ecstasies —
scents that rise the temperature, hues that squeal with desire,
cascading sounds of God’s mirth, adventure on steroids.
Come in, ebb and flow in dugout boats - leis floating
upon the deep-blue skies. Your hearts are pounding drums.
Don’t be shy. Grab this shelf of paradise. Don’t let go.
Aloha friends! Let’s all be friends. Planes fly in.
Koa, coconut, ‘ohi’ a lehua, candlenut, monkeypod,
noni, and lemon-scented gum. Mahalo nui!*
O’ahu, Maui, Kaua’i, Big, Lana’i and Moloka’i —
find your serenity, your northern shore, the allure
of life. Grab yourself a blue hawaii, piña colada,
