Mojave Desert

Miles and miles of nothing, sparsely vegetated
with Joshua trees, desert wildflowers,
ocotillo cactus.
Not much to look at, but
plenty of it to see.

Premium MemberMystique of the Mojave

A white wash of striated clouds
stretch expansively
across the arid desert sky
where Joshua trees commune
lifting up crooked cactus-like arms
towards the searing sun.

Massive layers of brown boulders
jut, forming endless sculptures
hidden places where the ancients
made their penitence with words
swept away by unforgiving winds.

Shadows shift under the arc of the sun
where nervous roadrunners

my first trip to Nevada
drove a car out of town
destination Avi in the Mojave

just the sound of it was music to my ears
I remembered a movie I loved
and that’s where it was set

Mojave… Mojave…
sign showing powwow underway
what incredible luck

the car had barely stopped
I was out and gone
drawn by the drumming afar

making my way through the

Mojave

Cradled in her mother’s starving belly
Spawn of a fruitless tree in Death Valley

Her mother’s tears of sorrow vaporise
Long before they can leave her blind eyes

She’s a thirst in a drought

His Soprano's Mojave Desert

Psalm sixty-nine pondering what should have been, for their welfare....
Fell unto a curse ? The seventh sign, if there were such and these my eyes
Colouratura, such sight they shall find ? Connecting dots while crossing
These lines parallel, her world a scripture binds; this collaboration betwixt both
Spirit be flesh blood from Ancient rivers, yet known

The Queen of the Mojave Desert

The old man lived out by the desert, selling postcards and gasoline,
He sold road-maps and Navajo silver, and True West magazine.

And under his Gabby Hays beard beat the heart of a dashing young man;
With arthritic fingers he cleaned off my windshield…he once was a Dapper Dan.

He said “Take care on the desert, carry plenty water

Mojave Sands

Her touch the warmed delicate Mojave breeze
Whispering love through dulcet Agave blooms

Her bronze skin a perfection of the desert spirit
A hot gossamer breath that intoxicates my soul

Lost in her embrace of the balmy deserts nights
Drawing me to the comfort of a fiery paradise

Her lips rapture angelic chords of the high mesa
Singing in the deep and
