Corked off glue, oral mucosa clamped, oyster bald razor, thumb running along twine binding the package, a conductor testing violin tension. Hairy balls of fire, a jackdaws caw, drawing her in with dirty sticky wet joy. Creaks on bed springs, open windows, neighbors staring, a drumbeat counting down to rupture. The squeezebox gripped tight, seething under bare back muds. Breath, a bird in a cage, jabbing at the bars of her ribs. Burnt-out fluorescent light, firefly flash caught behind bone. Hands unwrap with surgeon’s grace, flesh revealed: pink, marbled, mutinous. The cuts: rare, exotic jewels radiating a savory sheen. A finger tests the muscle, a pianist poised over ruin. And then: a grunt, “the trick,” a gesture, sleight masking ripened fruit. And my snake, swollen, pounding, thick and huge, slithers through her smooth underbrush. The Calvary arrives, a swarm of bees in spurred leather. Engines rev, Bouffants tumble, spiderweb eyeliner, one blink from collapse. Ten-gallon hats deflate, soft as old balloons left out in the sun.
Starlings chime down an alleyway.

snowflake meatball sandwich
it has been a long time
in honor of you, i add the monterey jack
it is such a shame that you died alone with all phones completely off
the tears fall quietly as i prepare bacon cheeseburger chili
while looking at the blue lake accepting kisses from the sun,
i think about the dried blood on the well worn rope
i become lost as i butter the potato rolls while wondering what i missed along with others
snowflake meatball sandwich
so many lifetimes have passed
as a tribute to you, i pour the blue cream soda in the frosted glass that says 'Live Freely'
it is such a shame that you died alone with all communication completely gutted
the tears fall with more volume as I take put some of the taco salad in a large paper bowl
while looking at the blue lake react pain of the expressive teardrop rain,
i think about the old, well worn dining room chair with 'Brooks' carved in the center of the seat
i become frozen in the state of missing completely oblivious to everything turning subzero cold
On the top of my delicious spaghetti
Always covered with cheese
I miraculously lose my poor meatball
When someone uninvited sneezes
It rolls of a marble table
And splats onto the floor
Then my poor meatball
Heads right out the door!
It rolled in a grassy garden
And right under a bush
Now my poor meatball
Was nothing but a mush
The mush was still very tasty
As tasty as can be
Then early next summer,
It grew into a wooden tree
The wooden tree was covered
With the prettiest moss
It grew the most lovely meatballs
In fantastic tomato sauce
So if you like delicious spaghetti
Always covered in cheese
Hold onto your poor meatball
And make sure you never sneeze!
I'm a meatball in a sub,
With three others just like me,
We are warmed by tomato sauce,
And a blanket made of cheese.
The roll is our surrounding house,
Handled by a man,
Shivering at a football stadium,
While sitting in the stands.
My best friends will soon leave me,
One by one as I watch the teeth,
Overreach each sphere of nutrients,
Devouring what's beneath.
This is what I was born to do, so I will not be afraid,
Munch, munch, munch. Oh what a glorious day!
