TRIM ERIC TRI

TRIM ERIC

Two longhaired lads went to the barber
The one with one ear showing was Eric
Yet some resentment he might harbour
If his haircut style was thought esoteric

The one with one ear showing was Eric
Just a trim he said, and not too short
A few snips here and there he thought

Yet some resentment he might harbour
If the haircut were to make it even
So he said I’ll wait, first do Steven

But Steve then pointed back to Eric
Do his, as classic short back and sides
Ensuring a central parting divides

60's Child

I found myself at the tail end of childhood then,
Coming out of its long sunny sleep;
The days and nights of pleasures, terrors, wonders
Strung together to make up the pitted landscape
Of being small
Still filled my world and made it whole.

Mostly i remember things like:
Summer crab feasts, "I Love Lucy" reruns
"Laugh-In" bits, the drone of ball games on t.v.,
Trips into town to my Grandfather's old store
For candy and comics
Back before my town became Yuppie Central.

Another child raised beneath the cathode rays' glow,
My mind absorbed images, words with only hinted meanings
- Like the smiling faces in the cigarette ads
The offhand reports of body counts
From a faraway, makebelive war,

i heard and felt the many signs of strain
Between the longhaired Bigger Kids and their parents;
But not for me their world of confused revolt.
That would come later, milder in my case
When I became one of their second, weaker, wave.

No, I stepped out of the close land of childhood
Just after it was all over;
Wondering ever since,
Just what it was I'd missed, or hadn't
By dint of being a kid of the fabled 60's.

LONGHAIRED GIRL
I'd like to take you. Stay with me,
and let me feel your flowing hair,
and look into your flashing eyes
to see if love just might be there;
to feel you pressing in the night
with no synthetics come between,
and labor in the heart of life
that makes our being clean.
My lady lying, just as I,
content, with dampened hair,
spreading, falling, pulling, we!
And joining wings, fly everywhere.
You! I! Go on silkened threads,
before a moment shoots away,
and chords that bind to other things,
intertwined, but not to stay,
And take me, you, my longhaired girl,
tomorrow will not know,
this little love we share tonight,
if you have to go.

Few times of the year are as glorified as this.
It is the Sabbath of Litha, the summer solstice.
Just two hours before dawn in the dark of morning,
among the witches gathered is a pretty thing.
With fiery red hair, she’s making my heart sing.
In a small clearing in the middle of the wood,
this young longhaired maiden looks much better than good.
The coven joins hands as they circle an oak tree.
The summer’s full moon light enhances her beauty.

You are the prettiest of the witches in your coven.
Seeing you sky-clad is getting me hotter than an oven.
Upon me, you must have cast a powerful spell.
It has control over me. It is working well.
How I would like to join you in this early hour.
I don’t want a talisman to quash your power.
Seeing you revitalizes my energy.
May earth, air, water, and fire dwell in harmony.
Later this morning, won’t you spend some time with me?

I am not an adherent to witchcraft or any other form of neopaganism.

Cats have always been with me
each in their own way
has run my house, has run my life,
and worried me when they strayed.

White cats like Alice’s Snowdrop
or striped tigers like the Cheshire
Longhaired Coons from Maine
Now those really are a treasure!

Long whiskers speared the dust bunnies
underneath my rumpled bed’s shell
and they found my missing sock
but they would never tell.

My Pixies paws smelled like popcorn!
Her tummy fur was sweet and long
I’ve heard folks have spun yarn from it
which kept them very warm.

I dream, of black cats I have loved
and tortoise shell “money cats”
I’ve thought of them as babies BUT
They didn’t think much of that.

I’d rather have a cat with me
For the rest of the life I’m given
Oh please give me one more cat
before I leave for heaven.

Sickness 2005

I conclude my statements were true
I rearrange my thoughts in the sky
I build all that madness I’m going through
I rearrange the truth with a lie

Tired, I walk along my memories
Desperately trying to find a better way
When was that day
That made my way

I’m feeling nervous, getting blind
I’ll end up in unconsciousness
With echoes on my mind

Burning weasels whirling around in creative arrangements
Spitting petroleum at the longhaired rabbit on the other side

Can you tell?

Whilst everyone was waiting
You Shut the door!

Big Black Lie

As time drug on, as it always does at stop lights,
a longhaired rustic man banged on my window.
I thought he looked homeless with his long scruffy beard,
but he really drove the bus parked right next to me.

Hesitantly cracking a sliver in the window
just to make his voice audible, I heard him say,
“Hey Lady, a huge snake just crawled in the front of your truck.”
I sneered and told him he was crazy.

As I sat there pondering over the logic to a snake
crawling into a vehicle in the middle of the city,
I gained more confidence that I had nothing to fear.
Of course I called Animal Control just to be safe.

I sat in the parking lot as my vehicle was inspected,
expecting to prove the bum wrong. I found out real quickly
that mangled and wrapped tightly around the engine
was a five-foot pregnant black snake.

Two days later I saw the driver of that bus
parked near the front of my school.
As I smiled and waved with thanks
he just shook his head in disgust and looked away.
