POLITICS AND LEADERSHIP
Chambers to Dais, Office and Palaces,
Coup d etats or electoral success.
Hereditary Throne or Law’s Clauses,
The roots of power has many sources.
One man’s oratories on a stage,
An inept fledgling of royal lineage.
Soldiers with arms or a religious sage,
Claimants to power of all rank and age.
A single party’s ideology,
Constitution, might or authority.
Islam’s fatwa, presidential decree,
Power’s voices or its cacophony?
But what is it that truly sets apart,
A tyrant fool from a righteous of heart?
In history’s face, both will play a part,
The latter it’s highlight, the first it’s wart.
The only power of tyrants they say,
Is righteous opposition kept at bay.
People held in fear have nothing to say,
Blindly accepting everything their way.
He oppresses all thoughts where freedom flows,
The avenues of reform he keeps closed.
Assured that to him everyone kowtows,
An independent life, is what’s gone most.
It’s indifference amid sufferings,
Never tolerating those opposing.
To cover the truth with brazen lying,
That marks a regime’s villainous ruling.
To become a servant of the people,
The soul must be pure and the heart, noble.
To all be fair, he must be capable,
In Rome’s dark hours, to stand not fiddle.
One who listens, equally to all sides,
Who upholds the law and protects the rights,
Of every one, for the oppressed he fights.
In dark moments, the torch of hope he lights.
He inspires from others fierce loyalty,
In accepting shortcomings truthfully.
He knows he’s mere human, not a deity,
But in crisis can act decisively.
He accepts others freedom to speak,
Listens to other’s without being meek.
Amidst all these voices the truth he’ll seek,
To temper the strong willed and help the weak.
His dreams are shared by people he governs,
Never recalcitrant, he always learns.
To serve as one best could, in his heart burns,
True Freedom for all is what his soul yearns.
By his example, many will abide,
First among equals, a nation’s true pride.
Honour due him can never be denied,
To ride his blazing sunset, glorified.
Form:
Drapes clashing from a clear, dark night
The remarkable scene- the risk I must take flight
Don't listen to all the commotion
You are an attrition to hunger
Save it for leftovers
Molded out of anxiety
Have no fear
Fate is far from here
Nurture in burning threat
Appease to sorrow
Deny it...no borrowing from the library
Take your flight, you sunlit fairy
On a cloudless, scarlet sky
The stars will motionlessly
Churn your fate to royal destiny
Take your flight, feel free to flee
Out of the grip of society's downfalls
Replace it with honor...be my hero for good
Your traits are nothing sinister
As a carefree, scarlet night
Conquer the unfailing life
Taking away all the sporadic soars
Please take away the malaise and
Don't burn me up, majestic star
Space of wonders
How could you burn our hearts?
How could you mutter those
Floating aspirations?
Canceling your circulations
Tangled by lips-spoken twist of lies
Pouring out misunderstood darkness
Outriding the black hole
Who knows what these dark shadows reveal
It's mysteries-- as hard as a bolt to a door
Thrive to carry on,
you carefree infant
Untie the tightening ceases
I'm unable to catch up...reach out
Overcome this rotting intuition
Severe, sincere sunshine
Hear my morning mourning
It whispers:
"Goodbye to midnight lust...
Good morning to betrayal"
Good morning...
To you, oh miserable soul!
River of weeping wonders
Pass by with a suitable
Recognizable, scarlet bliss
Send love swimming in
Open water
Fulfill it with
Morning deligh
A pocket of money he doesn’t have
A bucket of tender and love he can’t buy
Of simple moves he complains
Of simple actions he shouts
If he was my man
I would have never forgiven him
I would have never lasted
But he isn’t and I’m not that great
But I’m still mad and annoyed and broken
Of what he does
Of the craziness that has got into him
And I pray to God
Day by day
That all to be resolved
All that love to be returned
I can’t fool myself
What has gone is to never be replaced
What has lost its spark has gone to waste
But hope is killing us to survive
Begging us to stay
And we listen, we obey
But hope becomes old
And time is thrown to waste
Love and pleasure, respect
Is never to be again in place
Why ?
I ask myself this question everyday
But it seems it has none but one answer
Compulsion….
Compulsion to lose love
Compulsion to bury respect
Compulsion to fight and never be the same
Compulsion to forsake loyalty
Why ?
Because dark is stronger than light
Even if light tries to persuade dark
Dark is too stubborn
It will never obey…
Dreams lost in lack of sense
A lack of knowing where it went
Into the maelstrom; loss of sight
Machinery that stole your light
Fumbling through quiet noise
Mimicry evading choice
Everything within your grasp
When you don’t see beyond your clasp
Stubborn nightmares leaking through
The water rising lets you choose
Standing tall when you can’t sit
Your prison granting this privilege
Conscious reason comes to aid
Escaping from this shallow grave
The first revival, so alone
The sun revealing the dark unknown
Many paths, all are one
Soon to shape the dark beyond
And through the journey you will find
You were guided by your own designs
Experience is breathing through
Sharing truth to let us choose
A wakeful state to gain insight
Accept that pain can strengthen light
I walked in a dream
where things weren't what they seemed
way beyond the shimmer
every thing glowed with an inner light
giving the dark landscape a silver sheen
the light came from with in
the child of man
I was able to see their souls
I saw how they were tainted
with greed
lust
wanton need
evil's dark seed
this made their souls dim
then I saw
beyond the shimmer
where the mist thinned
a sea where children played in its waves
setting little paper boats afloat
filled with petals
I asked and they told
how the boats were filled with their hopes and dreams
and if they were sealed with wax how they would last to send them to god beyond the sea
I stood with them to watch them sail
way beyond the shimmer
glinting with a silver sheen (c) mjr 2008
