The ups and downs of life
Somehow seem to be condensed
When a family weekend has,
After too much time, commenced.
For excitement, filled with smiles,
Leads to tantrums and to tears,
Though some ice cream stops sure help
Tilt the balance (as do beers).
Just when things are smooth as silk,
There’s no water from the sink,
Nor for showers or to flush -
Glad there’s bottled stuff to drink.
There’s a water main that broke;
Takes 4 hours to repair.
Just before I hit the hay,
It’s all fixed - no more despair.
Still, the sky is filled with stars
And the days are streaked with sun.
All the downs are soon forgot,
Overshadowed by the fun.
Life has many ups and downs
Personally more ups than downs
A happy long life with many more years
A bunch more smiles than frowns
Surely one of the fortunate ones
The genes were a very huge factor
Ten kids and us at a baseball game
In the bleachers, we had our own sector
Nine were girls and then li'l ole me
The talk of our little old burg
The Ellison's have finally produced a boy
Biggest news our town had heard
Dancing in the streets, parties all night
A celebrity at a tender young age
Predicted to be spoiled with all those girls
To fawn over this sweet wee babe
Turned out sweet, a stunning specimen
Can still bring it at eighty-eight!
It's getting tougher and tougher, though
That's about it and I'm done!
Well that's my life in a nutshell, my friends
Unique I guess you could say
In this day and age of smaller families
Our story is rare nowadays

Sometimes life's a happy song
With nothing bad going wrong
Days are full of happy bliss
Like heaven sent down a kiss
Of peace, love, tranquility
Enjoyment for you and me
But other days are not as sweet
They can make you feel beat
Filled with times that are unpleasant
Becoming so unhesitant
That they will flip back again
To the happy days back when
Peace would follow and surround
You with no unhappy sound
That would burst this tranquil bubble
Letting back in all the trouble
You've been trying to avoid
Making you again annoyed
That all your days can't be full
Of this sweetness and not bull
But your learning to adjust
When the world's pain has to bust
This bubble keeping you safe
But a smiles on your face
Knowing it's not long until
Your peaceful bubble starts to fill
With joy you've been waiting for
More happy days to explore
Here we ago again. You tell me you're not sure
Don't know what you're feeling. I've heard this all before.
You have my heart in limbo. What am I doing wrong?
Why am I not enough for you? Why am holding on?
CHORUS
Times up. I'm done with waiting. C'mon make up your mind
Are we going somewhere? Or do I leave this far behind
If you're not sure you love me. Then what are we doing here
Tell the truth. Just say it.
Be transparent.
Crystal Clear
Do you mean it when you kiss me. Is this only in my head?
This evening's entertainment lying in your bed
The way you touch my body makes me feel you really care
Is this real or just illusion. I see something that's not there
CHORUS
BRIDGE:
Done with your indecision This isnt fair to me
Gonna do myself a favor let go and set you free.
Rather be alone than with someone who isnt sure
You lead my heart on long enough. Wont take it anymore.
CHORUS:
TImes up im done with waiting. I just made up my mind
This is going nowhere. Gonna leave it far behind.
If you're not sure you want me then I'm not staying here.
Its over babe Im leaving.
Hope I made that Crystal Clear.
We live our life in smile or frown, the many parts we play
All of life’s little ups and downs in pleasure or pain will lay
We find ourselves in tarnished armor that rust to make us sad
Yet, invest in a joyful face, our hearts bright and glad
Good are those happy days that our smiling face ingrain
Only to walk in tearful mist and our hearts to walk in pain
Still, we plant the seeds of the flower and see its beauty burn
While the petals slowly fade away and the wilted rose returns
Through the words of the eternal God, our soul will start anew
Fall like the faded rose then become fresh and new
Life has many ups and downs
Personally more ups than downs
A happy life with many more years
A bunch more smiles than frowns
Surely one of the fortunate ones
The genes were a very huge factor
Nine girls and me at a baseball team
Each game we had our own sector
Yup nine girls and then li'l ole me
The talk of our little old berg
The Ellison's have finally had a boy
Biggest news our town had heard
Dancing in the streets all night long
A celebrity at a tender young age
So spoiled with all those girls around
To fawn over this sweet wee babe
Turned out to be a stunning specimen
Can still bring it at eighty-nine!
It's getting to be a lot tougher though
But that's it I'm feeling just fine!
A PERSPECTIVE IN LIFE’S UPS AND DOWNS
Late last night, I was
Parallel to the full moon:-
That changed this morning:
I am perpendicular
To another day’s sunshine
Glory be to God
Another surviving night,
And its rising day:
Me ready for all of life’s
Up and down tribulations:-
In life’s ups and downs,
Let’s forever be in God’s
Labors of His love:
Seeking true equality
For all of humanity:-
In life’s ups and downs,
Let us pull down injustice;
Raising up justice:
Don’t be blind to injustice,
Up there, pulling down, justice:-:
Much more could be said,
But it’s parallel time now—
Tomorrow waiting:
May God see fit to have me
Perpendicular again:-
Let’s have a staycation, Ted said (he won’t fly
because if he did he would certainly die)
Don’t know how those aeroplanes stay in the sky
You won’t change my thinking so please don’t try
His wife said we just took a family vote
We’re flying abroad while you go by boat
We’ll get there first but we’ll try not to gloat
You still can relax in the time you’re afloat
And so off he goes with his luggage on board
And calm is the sea so he feels quite assured
The plane overhead not as high as you’d think
That’s not his concern so he goes for a drink
Was that his wife’s plane, she’s welcome to that
You're safer afloat even if you’re a prat
He said thank you God for the family vote
It was about then that the plane hit the boat
Aging
As I grow older from twig to tree
I realized age doesn't bother me
When I was young, time went by so slow
One thing about time you'll never outgrow
I've aged quite well, so it seems
My restful sleep brings restful dreams
My grandkids are grown, and my pill intake too
Thank god I can still remember my friends like you
I don't read the funnies in the paper anymore
I check the obituaries to find out the score
Of how many friends and people I knew
And how they died these stories are true
I'm thankful for the time I have left on earth
Everyone's countdown begins at birth
You can always love life regardless of age
Like reading a life's book, one's time passing page
So enjoy your ride while you are still here
Your time will come; there's no need to fear
When your name is called, and you must go
That's when you walk ever so slow
You're not quite ready to check out of the game
But like all your past friends, they all felt the same
Oops, false alarm it's not checkout yet
They gave you a reprieve, something not to regret
Another twenty years they tell you quite clearly
Countdown again, this time is in years
