Frank Osgood
1870-1919
I was the great wanderlust of Whittier!
From 1890 until my last days,
I followed my nose,
And other body appendages,
To distant earthly destinations,
Both sensational and disgusting,
From the calm tranquility of a secure home,
To the chaos and uncertainty,
Of traveling with heavy bags, aching feet,
And certain fears, I, nevertheless,
Decided to break out and seek other lands,
Other people, and other vistas.
Sickness did awfully afflict me many times,
As I lay retching inside many a tent,
But always I was learning, and thriving.
To far-away Rome I traipsed,
To Paris, Venice and London too.
From the streets of Madrid to
The far-away shores of the Mediterranean,
Where The Christ founded a mighty religion,
I ventured and saw, and tasted!
I hunted on safari in Eastern Africa and
Shot a gazelle from a standing position.
In beautiful South America and Asia,
My restless feet found another universe,
Of unworldly sights and strange rituals.
My friends!
It was amazing indeed to drink it all in,
Like a cool fruit drink from Rio.
But my thirst for wandering was never slaked.
And then it ended,
Like the quick waking from a dream,
When I died at home of a measly fever.
Most ironic indeed.
And so, as for my epitaph,
This is it:
“‘Tis a heap of profit to travel.”
In the dead of night veils uplift on Mid Summer's Eve,
still a time for a few live sacrifices, so tread warily.
A time when briefly the gates of hell can open
and unworldly things spew forth intent on evil.
Mid Summer Night dreams can come to pass
most oft to those who's hearts are true and pure.
A night of extremes, of evil versus good, and
of the fires of covens and black magic.
A night where Pan himself comes forth
playing his Pipes with gleeful skirls.
Tempting and enticing the unwary souls
with false promises and exciting dreams.
Goddesses of Light dance around in circles
their task to push back the evils of hell
to allow departed lovers to hold their beloved
for a fleeting moment to love once more.
OBSERVATION OF WHAT I SEE.
WITH FATHER TIME TO THE RIGHT OF ME.
HE OPENED A PORTL OF PURPLE LIGHT.
WHAT HE PRESENTED, WAS AN UNWORLDLY SIGHT.
GOLDEN CAPSULES, WITH CENTURIES OF TIME.
HE PROCEEDED TO OPEN A ONE OF A KIND.
HE SAID CLOSE YOUR EYES AND OPEN YOUR MIND.
EONS TO ME, ARE JUST A MOMENT IN TIME.
LET’S TRAVEL THE CENTURIES, WE MAY NOT LIKE WHAT YOU SEE.
BUT DONT BE AFRAID, YOUR RIGHT HERE WITH ME.
I STARTED TO ASK, BUT THAN PAUSED FOR A MOMENT.
HERE ARE BILLIONS OF EONS AND I DON’T EVEN KNOW IT.
THOUSANDS OF CETURIES THE SIZE OF SAND.
BILLIONS OF LIFE TIMES IN THE PALM OF MY HAND.
TIME GOES ON, IN EVERY DIRECTION.
WHAT YOU SEE HERE IS JUST A REFLECTION.
THE BLACK HOLE OVER THERE IS FOR SUCKING IN TIME.
DON’T STAND TOO CLOSE, IT WILL SUCK OUT YOUR MIND.
I OPEND MY EYES AND STARED FATHER TIME.
I HAD TO UNLEASH JUST A PIECE OF MY MIND.
SO WHAT YOU ARE SAYING IS, I’M A CHILD OF TIME.
I LIVE A FULL LIFE AND THAN RELINQUISH MY MIND.
THAT’D BE CORRECT, YOUNG PEPPERMAN.
YOU RELINQUISH YOUR VISIONS AND START LIFE AGAIN.
OBSERVE WHERE YOUR STANDING. YOUR WHAT’S LEFT OF ME.
YOU TRAVEL THE UNIVERSE AND SEE WHAT YOU SEE.
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IS THAT WHAT I BE?
NO, YOU ARE THE ENERGY, WHO CREATES THAT FOR ME.
YOU ARE JUST ONE, OF FOUR THOUSAND BEINGS.
EQUIPPED WITH A MIND TO UNDERSTAND WHAT YOUR SEEING.
NOW, PASS THROUGH THIS PORTAL AND RETURN BACK TO EARTH.
UNLEASH A NEW LIFETIME BEGINNING FROM BIRTH.
WE ACKNOWLEDGED EACH OTHER AND THE TIME THAT WE SPENT.
I RETURNED BACK TO EARTH, THROUGH A TIME THAT WAS BENT.
THIS WAS VISION SO REAL, IT STUCK IN MY HEAD.
BUT WHEN I OPENED MY EYES, I WAS LAYING IN BED.
Blinded by shining shards of sunlight
reflecting off sandy summer shores,
give pause to wonder what unworldly sight
hides beneath ocean’s watertight doors.
The Sun, father of the shoreline
instructs his lazy children to light the way
for beach combers and bathers-in-the-brine
who worship the Sun and sand as play.
Burned flesh and scorched, fire-red eyes
accost non-believers shaking their heads,
bemused that the Sun’s brilliance belies
affair extraordinaire with the sand he beds.
The Sun and sand a reflective twosome
combining their charms and beckoning
unsuspecting lovers to a garishly gruesome
show of frivolity and a day of reckoning.
In other words:
Sun and sand, such teasers,
conspire to cruelly tempt and torture tissue –
faux pleasers.
Enthusiasts
promising romantic issue –
nets cast.
Beach waltz,
promise anew –
false
Sun and sand, such teasers,
promising romantic issue –
false

You have fulfilled my life with a tranquil harmony,
With all celestial blessings I ever wished for…
Your radiant gorgeous flowers converse with me from afar,
They tell me about your endless passions,
In the rain, my heart dances like a peacock.
You created a glorious haven of a sanctuary for me,
With exquisitely rare flowers from our memories -
tender petals in mauve, magenta, purple, red and blue …
You created an oasis with a magical swing,
cradled around with green grass, lush and soft,
waiting for us, only us, exuberantly.
All those fascinating colours from the
breathtaking rainbow in the palette of the sky,
All the enchanting melodious sonata from the chartreuse
humming rivers descending from surreal mountaintops,
All the gently whispering trees and bushes
in the mystical forest of our alluring dreams,
cooing birds on the branches intoxicated with
longing for their mates, at dawn and dusk…
cherish our names with love, for eternity.
My tantalizing days and serene nights,
My vermilion joys and crimson longings,
All the kaleidoscopic tinge from the scintillating hues,
loving memory of
of one exquisite garden somewhere bearing my name “Malancha”
of one unworldly love creating wonders!

HE WEARS A COPPER BRACELET,
WRAPPED AROUND HIS WRIST.
HE SPEAKS OF OLD MAN WINTER,
OFTEN WITH A TWIST.
THE BUST OF OLD MAN WINTER,
IS ON THAT COPPER BAND.
BOTH HE AND OLD MAN WINTER,
ARE FROM UNWORLDLY ANCIENT LAND.
SOME SAY HE LIVED A THOUSAND LIVES,
HE IS SAID TO BE IMMORTAL.
LEGEND TELLS US HE WILL COME AND GO,
BY PASSING THROUGH A PORTAL.
HE'LL TELL YOU HE'S OBSERVER,
OF BOTH TIME AND EARTH.
HE REPORTS TO OLD MAN WINTER,
FOR WHAT IT'S REALLY WORTH.
HE SHARES HIS OBSERVATIONS,
THROUGH POETRY ACROSS THE LAND.
A CHALLENGE TO ALL MORTAL BEINGS,
OF WINTERS COLD DEMANDS.
“Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
in light inaccessible hid from our eyes”
quote from the hymn by Walter Smith (1867)
Light Inaccessible …
is wisdom without origin
can be known when faith
breaks the dawn with insight
This Light without space...
is seen without the use of eyes
is felt minus human hands
is heard though one has no ears
Spark that sharpens my light….
shining from the highest height
shining through the longest day
shining beyond my deepest pain
Immortal, invisible, very God and very man…
misunderstood and incomprehensible
is servant-hood, unworldly
for all things good, trustworthy
This Light without time...
Creator, man is made in His image
Redeemer of all surrendered souls
Eternal King coming to rule the Earth
Child of sun and sky, child of isle and sea,
the moon and stars to light my earthly trail -
his the taken road, the unmapped journey,
his the unwritten Oscarian tale!
When beyond mortal youth this world you quest
leave behind unworldly comprehensions -
seek it wide, seek it wise, and seek it blest
and beseech its higher interventions.
Long may the Muses sing when your heart sighs,
true your lyre echo, your mighty bow draw -
estrange yourself from the Gods in disguise
and believe in you and all you care for.
When the blast of heavenly trumpets come
yours eternal will be a new kingdom.

Dreams are a window to the future, real or surreal - poet.
If it was a dream it was like no other,
soft, delicate, with silky feathers
the angel beckoned me to
an enchanting embrace.
I was tempted but
couldn’t break the shackles
of diamonds, gold, silver
and all the precious stones
put together.
They were not just priceless,
they were strung with
a mystical, gossamer thread.
I tried hard but the magical
chains were overpowering,
The angel came close
I could feel the fragrance
of heavenly musk
her breath redolent
with nectar and ambrosia.
She bloomed like a lotus,
face glowing like a sunflower,
something I could never
attribute to women
of this world.
My strength was of no match
against the unworldly magic
of the chains.
Proximity of the angel and her
intoxicating body scent
was driving me, transporting me
to a far-off land unlike
any I had seen.
My tired eyes gazed at the pink seas
and blue sands, woods a
pale carmine yellow, the birds of a
colour rainbow danced
in tune with the music
created by the rhythmic
frothy, cream-pink waterfall.
The sky was
of a deep crimson hue
as if a gargantuan had
been slayed and the
tapestry above stained
with ungrateful blood.
It was both surreal and
utterly believable
at the same time.
My legs were still
in shackles, and I
was resigned to the fate
of an eternal prisoner.
I thought of the angel
who had come so close
to me offering an embrace.
What was her motive?
Was she offering me the
Kiss of death?
Am I going to die, dying, or
Am I already dead?
Amidst the cacophony
of the animals and birds,
my auditory nerves were
transporting faint signals of
someone approaching.
The sound of the steps
muted by the soft sands,
the dull sounds were from
behind, I turned around.
The angel was close, but
this time there was no
musky fragrance, only
earthly smell.
She touched, a bolt
of lightning hit me
and I blacked out.
Not sure it was a dream,
if I ever wake up I’ll find out.
Brazilians put green peas on their pizzas you know
yuck said my unworldly friend, whose cheeks were aglow
crazy since he is German and they put tuna on their crust
I rolled my eyes at his bigotry, his absolutism is a must.
japanese add potatoes to their pizza and mayonnaise too
you are kidding said my Costa Rican friend, her name is Lu.
what do you add to yours in the islands? I asked her.
we eat coconut on ours, to be bare would be a disaster.
pepperoni is the most popular topping in the US of A.
a variety of pieces though, each made in a unique way.
I have had tuna on my pizza in California, it was good too.
the one who did not believe me was my friend, island Lu.
