Premium Member It Was I

…thirteen miners…
…only one survived…
…still clinging to life...
...with a history of violations...
It wasn’t West Virginia.
It was I.
And I’m taking the day off.
I know it won’t rhyme,
But I’ve been pummeled.
Run through the wringer.
It’ll be coffee now,
Black and bitter,
The way I like it.
Later, I’ll have some soup.
Chicken soup.
Chicken soup without the chicken.
Chicken soup without the broth.
I’ll just look at the can.
Art soup.
It wasn’t Warhol.
It was I.
…Sago Mine officials…
…two miles inside…
…280 feet down…
...Wall Street rallied on rumors…
… of sexual improprieties...
...deep discounts expected…
…news and talk all day…
…classical music all night…
But mostly just dead air.
…The president will be speaking later today...
...the leak came from a well-placed source…
It wasn’t his press secretary.
It was I,
…a suicide bomber in...
A place I can’t even pronounce.
Suicide?
In the realm of no-time,
Everything exists simultaneously,
Everywhere, nowhere.
Vast universes containing infinite sparks
Of universal consciousness
Erupting with intelligent randomness.
Everywhere.
Nowhere.
Nothing can be extinguished,
Merely transformed.
…Intifada…
…Gaza…
What does it matter?
It wasn’t Hamas.
It was I.
When Garrison Keillor Recites this poem
On Writer’s Almanac tonight,
He’ll speak different words
And attribute it to another author,
But that’s OK.
It wasn’t NPR.
It was I.
…thirteen miners…
… only one survived…
…still clinging to life...
...with a history of violations…
It wasn’t West Virginia.
It was I.
And I’m taking the day off.

Stranger Things

Eleven bears a seed
Strange, numbers multiply
Even irrational digits breed
You are not that special
Though we are unique
One is lost by rage
In the upside down
Think Vecna is untrumped
But he cannot see
Up from down
Take him to LA
Feed him caviar
But, he has to go home
He’ll write in his journal
Feeding his demagorgon
The time One has had
Even if it rained all day
The sun was just above
Down below is his home
Where the sun is a memory
Parallel universes be damned
Can’t Eden marry the Real?
A pipe dream without wind
The piper sings to rats
Bring us a seed from above
Only Eleven brings a seed
Only One cannot rule it
Like Persephone to Hades
Bringing hope to Spring’s wake
That never stays down
Telling us Hell can be fertile
Like lynchings making jazz
Eleven, be my piper
Her music contraband
I am your Thirteen forever
A black cat with unholy lives
A vampire burned by light
If not for Will, I would rise above
My seed who still lives in Eden
Rotting from past trauma
Tucked in Eleven’s blonde wig
A seed from the right side up
Plant it where no light comes
Nurture one in a million
One that eats pressure
Like a pylolobus dredged
Deflated by salty air
Gasping without stress
Throw me back
Back to Hell
Free from the sun
Let me make dark ether
More hospitable
Down below
Unlike the surface
Overcrowded with joy
But that’s where
Life is, my sister
Where all I love
Where strange things
Live like us
On the right side up
Give me perspective
Greater than reality
But a seed
Brought by Eleven
It is but a seed
Until it lands in between
Rooted in the light
Leaves drinking darkness
Willing reunion
A breath of fresh air
On both sides
Of the coin
A dime united
For liberation
And for change
Everlasting
Strangeness in
Things

A Friend

I’ve always wanted a friend.
One who would understand the twisted and complex thoughts of my mind.
One who would see me in my despair and reach into the stars to make me happy again.
One who would care and help me as I would care for them.

A friend who knows all my faults and fractures,
And yet is still here.
Waiting in the room of my life
when many have failed to stay.

I only wanted one. And yet, I've got many.
And to find a friend like that is like two universes colliding,
creating the utmost chaos that in the end brings harmony and peace.

So I ask of you this: when you find that friend,
That friend who will be with you in your depressing seasons and euphoric spells,
That friend with whom you could talk about how the sun is never crescent and the moon is never full,
Keep them in the tiny folds of your heart, and never let them go.

Wake Up

The electric jolt of the city stops
It bows like a sapling in a February storm
The thirsty windows collect the drops

The heart, the pulse of the place— still warm
Still whispering behind doors, under grates
Beyond the snowy garrison of the city, Spring swarms

Over the yawning, gushing streams the melt creates
Near the child with the mud covered sneakers
The icy mist that lingered dissipates

Blooming from trees, fresh buds are sweepers
Brushing off the flecks of dirt and snow
They become the season’s youngest keepers

A wind to break the back does blow!
A new era is but a stone’s throw!

Many years ago I stood at a
place of crossroads. I was so
                               young, so inexperienced and
                               so lacking in knowledge. Yes,
much I'd learned, but had the
                               the sources of my instruction
                               been totally correct? In youth
I had thought so, but today I
think back to that critical time.
I could have gone left or I could have gone right. I made a choice.
I walked on some more and faced another pair of crossroads which
would also have led me again down completely different pathways.
I wonder sometimes if I'd ever
have become a poet. I wonder
if I'd have stayed married to a
different partner or if I'd have
                              had two similar children. Would
                              opposite experiences have made
                              me very different? Would trials
                              have been different too? Some
of my physical trials would be
the same no doubt, but would
                              different circumstances cause
                              different reactions? I consider
                              the idea of parallel universes.
                              It fascinates me! Then again,
                              God alone knows the answers
to the things I consider. Along
                              life's road I continue, knowing
in the end, I will return to Him.

Enigma

When the earth was new.
Mans grand grime: age old
When the earth was stew.
Before eternity was logged...
To keep track of the passing seasons.
Man dwelled with the Great Soul of Creation.
Man was free in mind...
Questioned his existence.
To push it's patience...
Gave us the means to wonder why...?
To which the creator had no reply.
This entity only left a riddle
Rapped in an epic enigma.
Not to days a ripple...
This mystery was left for us to decipher.
Thought was open to question,
The mechanic's of the Universes,
The machine of a mysterious being... all in one.
Until the dominations of man decided to close the door!
Bolted it iron claps, Shut!
Redefine creation
Renaming the grand scheme of time
Defining it in the sublime
By the checked hands of truth.
Not one of futures courses...
So a book was written of loose rhythms to
..tell Humanity about, "A God..."
A creature of their design
Mans grand Crime
To lie...

Premium Member Tree Hugger

I’ll never understand
people who destroy trees.
Those stationary counterparts to humans,
have so many stories and wisdom to share.

Like the lines on faces;
each limb speaks volumes,
about its personality.
Each curl, a journey; with each twist,
a curve ball is thrown its way and
it’s forced to detour.

Where the squirrel and bird see real estate;
I see a being, ecstatic about life.
A sentinel and friend, guarding my yard,
nurturing my inner child.

The whispering leaves on wind,
Sing their songs; lull me into a deep sleep.
Creating shade for cooling and shadows that,
jettison my imagination,
on a journey through timeless universes.

When I hug a tree, I feel love;
they are providers,
generously sharing their ionic breath,
with all life.

From poet to painter;
trees are friends and inspiration.
We share similar bodies and limbs,
but tree roots are more solid than humans, at times.
They need not roam; nor are they restless.

They defend when Sol’s angry temper rages;
we cower near trees, for safety and tree faces,
are charred a crispy black; still they stand guard.
They will heal and prepare for his next tantrum.

Life giving breath, are the trees and
they work hard for our respect.
No, I will never understand why people destroy,
 such souls, as trees.

Premium Member Solitude

Flocculent clouds suck the life from bel-esprit
She misses going out and warm springtime sun
She desires one verdant leaf upon a tree

Sharing feelings with the menagerie what fun
But this deafening silence lends to deep thought,
Deep relaxation, a need that's number one

Maybe our faith in God will again be sought
Like our founding fathers bowed knees in prayer
Let our silence and solitude resound with praise

May thankfulness fill capacious waves of air
Not complaints and brooding that leads to despair

Theme: "Like the silence that screams, cursing solitude....whispers of faith
sing patiently with prayers"

Solitude

I wanted to lie down
on the grass idly
and look at the clouds today
with the wind caressing my hair

It felt just like a day long back
when I had walked alone
through a thick fog
that divided for me
the visible and the invisible.

And then you had come along
lifted that fog layer by layer
held my hand
our fingers intertwined
spreading your warmth
seeping into my soul
getting closer every time.

The wind grew fierce
carried us to parallel universes
releasing only to watch
the stars above
on that quiet night
when we had gazed
deep inside the paradise
poured out our hearts
through that mist-covered forest

Today my solitude
felt pious for me

Today my solitude
smiled for you.

I am the heart of our love
built for the beauty of your dance
I feel you in every atom of my awareness,
a muscle of desire pumping to caress your luscious madness
without the current of your fresh fragrance I have no romance, only sadness,
my strength suffers without the tempo of temptation you provide
in the nature of your elegant warmth is where I reside
you speed and sparkle through me like red beams of paradise,
excited by the euphoria of your burning froth I feel wild and wise...

I pulse in the ecstacy of your sacred strength
my rhythm unleashed, I soar wild and free in you
untouched yet, the hurt of it bites hard
your solitude my temple, I beat gentle in it's silence
veiled wants, they chant on the dharma of our needs
teasing our restraint, as destinations remap to the universes we build
I glow in the dark of your waiting, I thrive in our potent future
feeding prayers and teaching destiny
waiting for you as I always have
beating for you as I always will -
