Days of Christmas 12-31-14

On the first day of Christmas,
My true love gave to me,
A partridge in a pear tree.

I have a Bradford pear tree in
My front yard,
But what the heck is a partridge?

I think a partridge is a bird,
I will search Google for the word.
It has been heard
In this song for more years than
my 30.

On the second day of Christmas
My true love gave to me
Two turtledoves and
A partridge in a pear tree.

I just recently watched Home Alone,
So turtledoves are just plain
Doves as far as I can tell,
But I don't like birds, except from
Far away.

Birds are nasty,
Birds carry diseases,
Birds flutter in my face
And bite me on the neck.

On the 3rd day of Christmas,
My true love gave to me
Three French hens,
Two turtledoves,
And a partridge in a pear tree.

But unless the three French hens
Are ready to go
Straight into my oven,
I have no use for silly birds
That I have never seen.

On the fourth day of Christmas,
My true love gave to me
Four calling birds,
So by now surely I must
Need an aviary.

On the fifth day of Christmas,
My true love gave to me
Five golden rings
That don't go with a thing.

On the sixth day of Christmas
My true love gave to me
Six geese a-laying to go with all
The other birds in the aviary.

On the seventh day of Christmas
My true love gave to me
Seven swans a-swimming,
To also go in the aviary.

On the eighth day of Christmas
My true love gave to me
Eight maids a-milking,
To clean up after all the birds.

On the ninth day of Christmas
My true love gave to me
Nine ladies dancing
All the way down the wedding aisle.

On the tenth day of Christmas
My true love gave to me
Ten lords a-leaping
To go with the ladies dancing.

On the eleventh day of Christmas
My true love gave to me
Eleven pipers piping
Just to change things up a bit.

On the twelfth day of Christmas
My true love gave to me
Twelve drummers drumming
Which have given me a headache.

By the time you get to day 12,
Your head I'd pounding,
Your waist exploded,
And you're ready to send your
True love back to the in-laws.

Premium Member Moments of Reflection

It’s Thursday morning, the twelfth day lock-down here. While sitting cozily in my room’s balcony with a bible and ukulele, some tiny birds perch tamely at the balustrade inviting me to play the most romantic melody as each critter hops and struts closer into pairs. Filling the air with their boastful flirty-chirpy chats and rubbing their wings sweetly against each other, the peeking sun displays its radiant smiles from the white fluffy clouds. Overlooking my spot are green trees laden with summer flowers, mostly supannikas and golden showers. Under the dense leaves are branches where other birds sing joyfully in unison with the tunes of their daily unique songs.

                          God sent songs of love

                        under our natures’ grand wings

                             listen and be glad

Amidst the orchestrated warbles of birds, the flowing water at my residence's swimming pool is heard while its dispenser strikes its keys to echo the refreshing music of serenity. The small lake across my spot is vividly viewed while it acclaims jubilantly the wonders of the day with its shimmering tranquility, mirroring the fire trees and bushes in its surroundings then accentuates the peeking sunrise that caresses my face with its warm glowing shafts. I read silently some verses midst nature's sounds then close my eyes to feel the majestic wonder of another day, another extension of life and lots of nature’s smiles. With thanksgiving, I start to finger-pick each string and sing with all my soul and heart a praising hymn.

                           nature's boundless gifts

                       our God's overwhelming grace

                              long reflection piece

FOREWORD: I have no idea if this actually works... I’ll let you decide

TWELTH KNIGHT

If you truly love me you shall do as I ask
To demonstrate your ardour, I set for you this task
I shall not make it easy to prove your love to me
So this, Sir, is my challenge, go do it gallantly

Fetch for me a ton or two of what I like for tea
Nine trucks full of dripping will serve me perfectly
And payback for those people who used to pick on me
A dozen blokes to thrash them is satisfactory

You know those metal baths, that folk would once scrub up in
Fetch for me five small ones to do my washing up in
And when the washing up is done who’s gonna wipe the plates
It might seem rather silly but for that... eleven snakes

Vegetables should not be damp so here’s what my next wish is
Bring for me exactly four Perforated dishes
Some shaven men to trim my lawn, be sure that seven come
And two mittens the colour of the deepest darkest plum

An ancient drink called koumiss, that comes from way back when
Had honey and some milk in, so bring me eight of them
A few young men to fix my socks, better make it ten
And then bring me from Normandy three fellows, all called Den

Find some men to exercise my reindeer with their sleigh
If you accept my challenge, bring six of them my way
And finally a big old fridge you’ll have to find for me
But only if the offer is buy one and get two free.

Well It took less than a fortnight to get the challenge done
Just twelve days to finish off the task he had begun
And while he wouldn’t often read his lovers diary
She had left it open, so he’d see what he would see

On the twelfth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me...

Twelve drubbers drubbing
Eleven vipers wiping
Ten laddies darning
Nine loads of dripping
Eight meads with milk in
Seven shorn and strimming
Six geysers sleighing
Five old tin sinks
Four colanders
Three french Dens
Two purple gloves
And a large fridge and a pair free

Premium Member Central Ohio's Twelve Days of Yuletide Magic

Here in Central Ohio, when winter's chill descends,
We celebrate for twelve whole days, our Yuletide dividends.
Deep within the Buckeye land, where Aesculus genus grows,
We throw our hands up with delight as C-bus gifts enclose.

On the first day of the season, Columbus gave to me,
a Strader's Nursery conifer, scarlet and gray tree.

On the second day of the season, next to Scioto's run,
two bright red cardinals spread their wings and play beneath the sun.

On the third day of the season, in German Village quaint,
three bratwursts are a-sizzling, and we eat with no restraint.

On the fourth day of the season, beneath the Statehouse dome,
are four historic artifacts saying O-H-I-O's our home.

On the fifth day of the season, at Short North's gallery display,
we act like art professors while we drink our Beaujolais.

On the sixth day of the season, the Arena District's cheer,
six Jackets skate together playing in blue hockey gear.

On the seventh day of the season, at COSI's large expanse,
seven planets spin above our heads, and we join the cosmic dance.

On the eighth day of the season, at Hocking Hills so wild,
eight waterfalls cascading, are nature's art compiled.

On the ninth day of the season, in Dublin's Irish grace,
nine Celtic dancers stepping, puts a smile on every face.

On the tenth day of the season, within North Market Hall,
ten food booths are a-beckoning with salty-sweet enthrall.

On the eleventh day of the season, with carolers at the Zoo,
eleven million lights a-twinkling, we can see them from the Shoe!

On the twelfth day of the season, near Highbank's snowy scene,
twelve sleds they are a-sliding, adding to this winter dream.

In the heart call of Ohio, this season is our own,
With flourishing traditions and a spirit brightly shown.
The twelve whole days of Yuletide, and our region we adore,
In Buckeye state the holidays keep magic evermore.

The Twelve days of Christmas

On the first day of Christmas, my true love said to me, I think that’s the police up there. So I drove them up against a pear tree.

On the second day of Christmas, forensics were at my door, haha, I don’t live there any more.

On the third day of Christmas, a nationwide search was out for me, they would never find me, I was hiding up a pear tree.

On the fourth day of Christmas, my true love called to say, why are there four birds calling you, what the hell is going on.

On the fifth day of Christmas, my true love texted to say, a reward of five gold rings is on your head.

On the sixth day of Christmas, I was joined by two turtle-doves, not forgetting that bloody partridge, who was really doing my box in.

On the seventh day of Christmas, the turtle-doves thanked me for the meal, with the words, the partridge would have loved this. Didn’t have the heart to tell them.

On the eighth day of Christmas, I laid into six geese with a half brick, now I really was hating birds, would die for a fish.

On the ninth day of Christmas, I caught the turtle-doves playing around with three French hens, a hand grenade put paid to that.

On the tenth day of Christmas I got turned on by eight maids a milking, though this was short-lived when I was attacked by seven swans a swimming.

On the eleventh day of Christmas, feckin drummers turned up, followed by eleven pipers, ten lords trying to leap nine ladies of the night. F*** sakes, man, do these people know who they’re dealing with.

On the twelfth day of Christmas, I awoke from a drunken dream. My god, the wife screamed, somebody’s massacred the partridge, what the hell are we going to do now, there’s only fish left to eat.
Only fish left to eat,
Oh God, thank you for my Christmas treat….

On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me…
A puppy that wouldn’t stop peeing on my tree.
On the second day of Christmas my true love gave to me…
Two Turtle Doves who dropped a load, as I looked up in the tree.
On the third day of Christmas my true love gave to me…
Three little kittens that my puppy, chased up daily into the tree.
On the fourth day of Christmas my true love gave to me…
Four sets of ornaments to replace, those destroyed by kittens in the tree.
On the fifth day of Christmas my true love gave to me…
Five different promises that he would again, put up, The Silly Tree.
On the sixth day of Christmas my true love gave to me…
Six strands of lights to replace those chewed on, by my little puppy.
On the seventh day of Christmas my true love gave to me…
Seven hugs and kisses, so I’d PLEASE forget, about the Blooming Tree.
On the eighth day of Christmas my true love gave to me…
Eight Trolls a milking, chasing cows thru all my hedgerow shrubbery.
On the ninth day of Christmas my true love gave to me…
Nine Trolls a dancing, that all fell on, my once beautiful garden fencing.
On the tenth day of Christmas my true love gave to me…
Ten Trolls a leaping, as Caroling candles, burned down into their hands.
On the eleventh day of Christmas my true love gave to me…
Eleven Trolls a smiling and ready to rebuild my burned down front porch.
On the twelfth day of Christmas my true love gave to me…
Twelve Trolls a hammering and a nice big bottle of Tylenol… just for me…
Plus the happy thought, I’d survived a Christmas gift, planned with love… just for me.

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and best wishes for twelve days of Christmas joy.
