Sat on a bench in the park under the sun.
Shaded by an oak with the breeze soothing my skin.
Watching joggers, jogging, cyclist, cycling
I look at the goal posts inviting a shot.
The grass is green brown,
Because it’s been so hot
So many people walking
As if time has stood still
I wish I had time or time to kill
But as always I’m working,
Earning, struggling along
The gusty breeze is just enough
Not too strong
It’s cool where I sit
Watching innocent dogs
They don’t know it’s wrong
To cause a mess and a pong
A woman walks by
Her life on the phone
And a pensioner in a blue top
jogging alone
Mothers with energetic kids
And tired already
As the child slips,
The mum smiles, 'Go steady!'
And time stands still
While I wait for the call,
You’re oils changed Dave,
But nothing's changed at all.
I can’t ever close the portal of memory for you
While the strings of my dust laden guitar gently weep
I see my teardrops turn into lyric of song new
I keep these rolling for you on my quivering lips.
While the strings of my dust laden guitar gently weep
I collect the shards of my life strewn behind the door
I keep these rolling for you on my quivering lips
Hoping the tune of my melodic passion you will adore.
I collect the shards of my life strewn behind the door
Enmeshed with slices of heart is love I feel, I want to tell you
Hoping the tune of my musical passion you will adore
How beguiled I will float then on cloud nine, you have no clue.
Enmeshed with slices of heart is love I feel, I want to tell you
I am tired of wandering in wasteland, don’t let me wait long
How beguiled I will float then on cloud nine, you have no clue
Your love for me is forever, gives melody to my song.
I am tired of wandering in wasteland, don’t let me wait long
I see my teardrops turn into lyric of song new
Your love for me is forever, gives melody to my song
I can’t ever close the portal of memory for you.

I saw God rob the poor box
take a beggar out to eat
two burgers and a coffee
a loaves and fishes feast.
I saw God in the alley
drape his coat around a bum
watched him walking slowly
on dark streets of lonely numb
saw Him in the playground
share his crackers with a friend.
I saw God on the battlefield
console an orphaned child
saw Him wipe her tears away
replace them with His own.
I saw Him on the subway
rise and let the tired sit.
Saw Him in the canned goods aisle
reach items on high shelves
saw the gratitude in those
who can’t do it for themselves.
I asked God what was going on
said “Hey, God, whassup!”
He smiled and said: “ just watching
my Angels growing up.”

Go ahead snow, have at it
Fall away
There's a woman who I Iove
And I want to see the day
When we both sit and watch you
Silent, hand in hand
Her head upon my shoulders
Wouldn't it be grand?
To cozy by the fire
To sip some Scottish tea
To listen to her heartbeat
To hold her close to me
To speak with just a whisper
Love poems in her ear
To lift her chin and kiss her
Enraptured in her sphere
To rub her tired shoulders
To rock her off to sleep
To cover her in blankets
To wrap her up with me
Go ahead snow, fall, have at it
And while you're coming down
Land and form a pattern
A snow heart on the ground
the floor was slick,
blood running like gutter water after rain,
and the men smoked while the knives sang.
I didn’t feel a thing.
neither did they.
you learn not to.
cows stared before the bolt hit,
then nothing,
just a shudder, a collapse.
so much blood—
it got into my boots,
into my dreams.
I drank heavy to rinse it out,
then got up and did it again.
no choice in the matter.
paycheck in one hand,
choice cuts in the other.
the dog wagged his tail.
the wife cooked steaks
while I sat half-dead in the chair,
beer can sweating in my palm.
vegans eat stuff
that tastes like bark peeled from a tree.
let them.
me, I lived in the stench,
among knives and shadows,
working in a slaughter house.
Tired as a dog from his day at the office
Dad plopped down on the couch at home
stretched his arms and sighed a deep sigh --
Just looking at him, you were tired to the bone
Five-year-old Sollie came over to snuggle, but
Dad turned on the tube and pulled out the paper
Paid no attention to his precious son's whimpers
Told him, "I'm busy now, son; I'm in no mood for your capers."
Little Sollie went away to his room and he cried
Couldn't understand Dad's bad mood --- Why? Why? Why?
So he returned to the couch, his tears still undried
And this is what he said; I swear it's no lie:
"Dad I know you're in a bad mood
But I got news for you that's good --
Here's something I know you're just wishin' and hopin'
Look outside Dad: it's not dark yet. The park is still open!"

Comfort me Queen of Spades
Hearts are just for show
Tired of putting my own on the market of trades
There are no benefits and the profits are low
Promises are never kept and the one to suffer is the pure of soul
Comfort me Queen of Spades
Let me play pretend in your arms
I need love even if it's fake
Been hurt so many times before that one more time don't do anymore harm
My feelings are numb to heartbreak
At last I understand the stakes
Give me love even if it's not mine to take
Comfort me Queen of Spades
Kiss the edge of my scars
Replace the memories of pain with pleasure
The moon was too high so let me sleep among the stars
You don't have to remember my name, no pressure
Just treat me gently, everything else can be taken at your leissure
To love or not to love, these are just emotions that don't have to be measured
Not labelled, but are treasured
Comfort me Queen of Spades
Temporarily I want to believe we are meant to be
It already feels long term in my mind
So I'll smile while it lasts until you say goodbye to me
But I have to have this story even if we leave it behind
Comfort me Queen of Spades
Tomorrow comes and with the dawn this one night stand fades
Form:
I look into my mirror and I see
I girl who is standing, staring at me
Our eyes lock and it can’t be
This girl is stressed, eyes filled with despair
Falling into a pool of darkness without a care
Drowning but not ready to gasp for air,
I stare
This girl is tired and broken and sad
Choking on her own fears, not ready to ask for a hand
Still unaware and afraid ‘this is normal it can’t be that bad,’
I stare
This girl has a smile that is shaking, doesn’t belong on her face
Uses it to hide all her pain, move it all to one space
That smile is the only key to her happy place,
I stare
This girl is taking deep breaths in and out
Using them as a way to cope and not shout
How much she is hurting, hiding behind those breaths, what’s that about?
I stare into my mirror and what do I see?
A girl who is standing, staring at me
Where did the other one go? Who was so carefree.
Did she disappear with age, why because she
Was so perfect, so pleasant oh where could she be
Because she is not the same girl staring back at me.
In the smile of dawn, I woke up
Clouded was the day
And darkness fills in my eyes
Without stopping falling raindrops
And the breeze that tickles on my cheeks
Never cools me anymore.
Nothing to lose
And nothing to own
Only the memories hold me alive.
Don’t know what to do.
And where will go.
My legs drag me somewhere.
Not clear my paths
Weird is my mission
Destiny tricks me every time.
Failure shatters me, but
Still hope shines in me
Like a firefly.
I see and I remember
The rise in every fall
And the times I move ahead.
Not tired
Not dim
Hope glitters in me.
Form:
There’s not much to love in the land of
72 ounce steaks
Air-conditioned grace droning over
AR-15 soaked Saturdays
Remembering is not the problem these days
Rather it is forgetting that
Children can have new names
If they pick them up with their own hands
The bootstraps have all but worn off
these snakeskin boots
And I am tired of something I can’t put my mind to yet
But I never thought I would love
Bird feces soliloquies
Thanksgiving apart from family
Humidity on top of humidity
Or evenings that never turn to nights
So I’ll just hold my own name
Firmly in soiled hands until I can
Plant it back in the ground
Where it belongs, beside a cool swift stream
Shaded by a bigleaf maple
