Who Am I Lord

Who am I Lord
That you are mindful of me
A tiny drop of rain
In a wide expansive sea
What could I ever give
That you could ever need
Who am I Lord
That you are mindful of me

Who am I Lord
That you should bless this wretched man
In all the scope of time
I'm but one single grain of sand
After all I've put you through
You still take me as I am
Who am I Lord
That you should bless this wretched man

Who am I Lord
That I would ever deserve
All the mercy poured out on me
In the power of your spoken word
Why did you choose these ears
To be the ones to have heard
Who am I Lord
That I would ever deserve

Who am I Lord
That you could want this heart of mine
It's so rough around the edges
It's been hurt so many times
I know that if I give it to you
It will be forever thine
Who am I Lord
That you could want this heart of mine

It is only by the blood of Christ
That I know exactly who I am
And only by that precious blood
Do I now have the power to stand
The power in your blood poured out
To justify this sinful man
It is only by the blood of Christ
That I know exactly who I am

Premium Member The Resistance of R.P McMurphy

They once were jagged diamonds in Hell's Canyon.
A bit rough around the edges.
Sloppy and homespun but honest.
Unity was their strength.
A streak of black lipstick in the whisky morning mist.

Over time, they all gave in. That's not a crime.
Call it desperation in a bubble of inhumanity.
Caved in to the water and wind of rancid government.
Freedom filleted from the bones of burning time.
The spirit smoothed down like a creek stone.
No ruggedness or jaggedness left.
One stone looking just like the other:
conformist
questionless
put in place
wild horses lassoed
from wildflower plains
broken in
smooth brained
tamed.

Like R.P McMurphy, a cuckoo bird trapped in a metal nest.
Post-electroshock therapy blank-eyed
The chief putting a pillow over his life sentence.
Gave back to him his spirit animal.
Freed him back into ruggedness.
Jagged independence.

Pray now, for the awakening.
Another, pre-shocked R.P McMurphy.
Pray for the old, juicy fruit chewing, chief.
Stalking bison by the light of a harvest moon.
Pray for the spilt blood of a virgin resistance.
Escaping electric pulses and straitjackets
Eclipsing the new world order of infinite rape and constant clack.

Premium Member Shape of Things To Come

shape up said the circle to the square

you’re a bit rough around the edges

far too closed in for comfort and joy

I can’t help it I’m all full of angles

right ones and wrong perspectives

constant rectangular doom so to speak

look at me I am a ring of fire and passion

diametrically sound complete at the centre

rounded and packed with infinite promise

you’ve no beginning unaware of the start

state you’re a wheel in perpetual motion

while I am grounded and sure of myself

no such thing for you are rigid and static

unsure where you’re going if moving at all

condemned to inflexible and taut stiffness

and so they squabbled from angry premises

valid arguments and debatable conclusions

righteous and unbending in their opposition

until an ellipse and parallelogram came along

change needs shifting paradigms under pressure

the square opened and jumped into the circle

anchored tangents perimeter and firm compromise

let us please wed our disadvantages and strength

no contradiction but complementing each other

Pythagoras meets Sisyphus and they applaud

Premium Member I DIG U THE MOST

(Lights dim/ A single spotlight illuminates a figure standing center stage/ A beat drops - a simple, soulful bass line/
The figure leans into the mic/
East Village cafe, brick walls whisperin' low, Steam rising from a cup of joe/
But it ain't the caffeine, no, and it ain't the joe, It's you, baby, that makes my heart glow/
I dig you the most, see, 'cause you make coffee your way/ Not pre-packaged perfect, but brewed fresh, day by day. Strong, bold, a little rough around the edges, man, I dig it that way/
Hey, baby, I dig you the most/ like always got somethin' to say/
(The bass line deepens slightly) I dig you the most when I see you struttin' my way, A force of nature, you brighten up any day/
And that Cleopatra hair, piled high, in ancient display/ makes my heart beat faster, what else can I say/
I dig you the most when you're laughin' at our feline crew, those furry little weirdos, pullin' our chain, Yo baby, dig this feeling, honest and true/
Hey baby, I just dig you the most, in everything you do/
(A breath, a pause/ The spotlight seems to intensify)
Lovin' you, baby, it's a party, all day long!/
A symphony of moments, a beautiful, heartfelt song/ I dig you the most when you're rockin' that Channel scent, strong/
Baby, I just dig you to no end/
Cause you are my wife, lover, and best friend/

“Have you ever done this type of work before”?

	“they’re sheep – I’m a sheep dog – are you serious?”

“Are you aware we have a dress code?”

“no way am I wearing a dress.”

“You will be interacting with our clientele daily”
“and to be kind --- you are a bit rough around the edges.”

“Have you seen your clientele up close?”
“I only wear my hair like this to fit in.”

“And there is the security clearance issue.”

“Security Clearance!!! If I can fit under the same fences
that they fit under…..that’s my security clearance.”

“So we’ll offer you the standard contract.”
“Twenty four hours a day, seven days a week,
fifty two weeks a year.”

“Hey, hey, I’m a sheep dog not their mother!!”

“DID YOU JUST LICK YOURSELF???”
“GET OFF THE FURNITURE!!!”

“Why did I ever take this Bo Peep contract??”

A Waking Dream

Their rough around the edges rounded messages
are smoother than piano keys
Dreams are open doors we walk through into a
place that's off the hinges
Inside is where pictures are developed from the
film no one sees
We're on the cusp of other worlds as we scale the
living minds mental fringes
Internally we're living free, but the outside is full
of chains
I dream of a world that's all inclusive where all doors
are free of any keys
Picture a place where you design everything that's
placed inside the frame
One door just leads to another one in a world where
everyone can see
In my dreams everything is me & every house could
be my home
We're all just visions of another self being seen on
other screens
I'm dreaming of a world full of myself so everything
could be my clone
Our lives are gifts of the imagination within a subtle
waking dream

Old Pawn Shop Guitar

In a window down on Main St.
Sits an old pawn shop guitar
Its strings are like a slinky
And its finish has been marred

But when a dreamer has a vision
They keep shooting for the stars
It's not about the glamour
It's more about the heart

If that old pawn shop guitar could talk
Oh the stories it could tell
Its raspy voice from the smoke
Would prove it knows the bar scene well

It's rough around the edges
Yet it strums every chord in tune
It could reflect upon the saddest song
It helped write in some bedroom

I walked in through the front door
And it's like the man could tell
He approached me with a smiling face
Said here's the story that I tell

I've seen you for the past few weeks
Sneaking by to take a look
That guitar right there could write a page
It could even write a book

Our late nights were never ending
She knew Johnny, Hank and Merle
Even sat in with the possum
On his tour around the world

She's played all kinds of music
From rock and roll to hillbilly
She even tried her hand in a bluegrass band
But heartache's still her specialty

If this old pawn shop guitar could talk
Oh the stories she could tell
Her raspy voice from the smoke
Would prove she knows the bar scene well

She's rough around the edges
Yet she strums every chord in tune
She can reflect upon the saddest song
She helped write in our bedroom

I know all this cause she was mine
From way back in the day
But I hung her up the day I got
The note that she went away

She helped me through my darkest hour
I'd rather see that she lives on
Than look out on these lonely streets
And think she missed her first hit song

Son promise me that you'll go far
With this old pawn shop guitar

Jim

He'd wake up sorta rough around the edges
then he’d pull in his teeth from out of the glass
Yawn then rub his eyes with the back of his hands
scratch his belly for a while and then his ass

After a time you would look around the house
and wonder where in the world old Jim had gone
Out the window you’d see him headed to the
outhouse wearin’ nought but red flannel long johns

He'd have a newspaper tucked under his arm
though everyone knew he couldn’t read a bit
Said he liked to wipe his ass on the headlines
they was already filled to the brim with ****

He'd make it back to the house just in time for
breakfast and barely said a word while we ate
We headed out for chores before the sun rose
cause fifteen minutes early to Jim is late

Now us boys would work until plum soaked with sweat
while Jim just shuffled around a bit you see
Guess we probably couldn't ask for much more
seeing as how Jim was just past eighty three

Like I said before, Jim never did talk much
when he did it would be best that you take heed
Because he never put in his two cents worth
lest it was something that you was gonna need

He taught me that standing my ground for what's right
is the way the cowboy life has always been
You should never raise your hand to a woman
and stealing from others is a definite sin

If'n you say that you'll be doing a job
than you better do it the best that you can
Cause slacking away is the devil's right hand
you can bet you’ll never be trusted again

Well growing up into manhood on the ranch
I owe almost everything I learned to him
Now as I ride each day out past where he lays
I stop and say a prayer for my friend Jim

To My Husband

To my husband,
Our life is far from being normal.
Our days do not require us being formal.

When we met, we were just words upon a screen.
Today, I am your fallen and tattered queen.

You are my mighty, rough around the edges king.
You have somehow become my EVERYTHING.

You have managed to see beyond all my flesh and bone,
You took me away from all the lies I've ever known.

I always wonder what you see
When you set your gaze upon me.

Do you see how vital you are
Or do you think I am bizarre?

You broke down the walls of my shattered heart
In which you promised me a fresh start.

You offered promises of pleasure
Knowing there would be pain of some measure.

Our love has seen it's ups and downs
While we argued more than a few rounds.

Do you not see what I see when I gaze upon you?
Do you not feel that our love is something anew?

I have seen my gentle giant of man
Become more than the touted caveman.

I see your sweet, wistful, and sometimes sad smile
That makes me see our troubles we can reconcile.

Please see how extremely special you are.
To me you are a bright shining star.

My husband, I love you and I love our life.
I am proud and happy to be your loving wife.
