Wistful weeping willow why do you cry,
did you espy your leaves falling from on high?

They can’t cling on when a breeze is around,
see them cartwheel as they float to the ground.

Watch how they are dancing now they are free,
see them waltz as they lose their grip on the tree.

Long leaves spiral down and they land in the stream,
they planned their escape; they’ve achieved their dream

Wistful weeping willow you have no reason to cry;
when the wind blows, wave your leaves a last goodbye.

On the Jewish calendar, Tisha b'Av is the saddest day
We don't even smile, say 'Hi' or 'Good morning'
For when those who spied out the Land spoke untruly
The Lord gave the Jewish People fair warning

"You say that here in the desert you choose to die
My promise to lead you into the Land, you defy"
'By my word,' the Lord thundered
'I'll give you reason on this day to cry!'

And that we all know is why
Flames shot up from our Temple so high
  Darkening Jerusalem's tear-streaked sky
exposing sins, once hidden, to the naked eye

Beautiful
Through the looking glass I can see
All the things I dream can be
A beautiful day
A heart opened all the way
Nobody with a day wasted
All have love, at least tasted
A blue sky
No one with a reason to cry
A hand to hold
To be told
As you grow old
Your loved like no other
Everyone can forgive their brother
Someone to hold
See beauty untold
A smile in the heart
A new start
Love in mankind
Some day they will find
That hates a waste
Leaves a bitter taste
Takes life the wrong way
Take time to say
I truly love you
So be true
Be kind
You'll really find
Love will win
I tell you again
Don't give in to hate
Such a horrible fate
You must join me
And together we can see
The start of something new
It begins with you
It's true
It may take awhile
But we can make all smile

A Reason To Cry

People say there’s a reason for everything,
But somehow you don’t see the reason in me.
You know I’m tropical, just like you,
What reason will you give to your monsoons?
We all break down, and that we should,
Whenever currents turn stormy and clouds blue.
You taught the manners – it’s impolite to ask
Something that I can’t get out of my heart.
You shouldn’t push, nor should you pull,
Nor should you force an action of nature’s rule.
Because I won’t speak doesn’t mean you should go
It takes time to gather a heart broken long before.
Please don’t – I pray you please don’t go,
Maybe that missing piece is you and you alone.
The ugliness you feel in every moment I scream,
Is your unwillingness to see the bitterness I feel.
I tried to stop the tides with my bare hands,
But water will one day flow over once dry sand.
You say people won’t love me if they see me this way,
But is it truly love if you can’t hold me while I break?

Clover

I was under a tree.
He told me one thing.
Whisper, whisper.

On that bus.
The four leaf clover.
On the seat next to me.
I found him in the field, field, field…

Yesterday, my mom threw that old pizza away.
She threw away the box.
So I wished for more.

My four leaf clover and I.
There’s not much reason to cry.
But still, I decided to anyway.
Even though the clover will pay.
Bringing the pizza back to the car.
He used to live in a field very far.
We parked in the spot too long this time.
He promises to pay the fine.

I used to read under that tree.
Until a clover said to me.
He told me that there’s nothing better than being plucked from the ground.
So I did, even though there was an ominous sound.

I was under a tree.

Then I picked you.

A Reason to Write

I pleaded for a reason to write
I was given a reason to pine
The world knew that for me to peel the bark off a pine tree
Was to peel at the layers and layers of masks
And dip the pinecones in the blood
Shed from my splinter

I pleaded for a reason to write
I was given a reason to cry
The world knew that for me to tear
Was to tear myself apart
And ask my face to be painted
By the streaks dancing around my cheeks

I pleaded for a reason to write
I was given a reason to pain
The world knew that for me to scar
Was for me to peel at an old scab
And let it be a torturous reminder
Formed from my mistakes

I pleaded for a reason to write
I was given a reason to break
The world knew that for me to feel
Was for me to know what it felt to be shattered
And cut myself trying to mend the sharp pieces
Scattered across the floor

I pleaded for a reason to write
I was given a reason to run
The world knew that for me to lose
Was for me to look back at how far I’d drifted away
And fatigue in an attempt to make it back
Sprinting to a past that I’d already passed

I pleaded for a reason to write
I was given a reason to hide
The world knew that for me to seek
Was for me to be tired of the seeker
And lose track of the one that was hiding along the way
In an attempt to find something to save her

I pleaded for a reason to write
I was given a reason to write
The world knew that for me to pick up a pen
Was for me to live to die
And write down the filling feeling of emptiness
Trying to come up with something to write

Marriage

His proposal

Darling will you marry me? I’ll love you for eternity
With honour and hope all of my life, I want to make you my wife
My worldly goods will be yours and I’ll cherish you forever
In sickness and in health, I will leave you never.

Darling this is the best honeymoon, I have ever been on.
Do you know where my golf clubs are? They seem to have gone.
No you can’t go shopping we cannot afford
I have payments to make on my holiday abroad

Darling I need a shirt for tonight’s dinner,
I’m going to the golf clubs for the awards for the winner
No, you don’t need a new outfit, that one you have on will do
Why do you want a new one, that apron really suits you.

Darling we need the money that’s why you do the dishes
If I could afford to have you with me, it would grant me all my wishes.
My shoes need cleaning, I need clean underwear too
I don’t know why you haven’t done them you seem to have nothing to do.

Darling the grass needs cutting why have you left it so long
I think you should do it now, while I just listen to this song
You always say you are tired but I really don’t know why,
You only work twelve hours a day and that’s no reason to cry.

My flesh is wrinkled and older each day
The pained steps I take a tortured farewell
The friends I once had have all gone away
Inside my mind's eye is where they now dwell
Weariness I wear with days of old age
To hold me, hostage, till' my life can fade
The years I have lived, I'm at the last stage
And wait for the darkness in dim-lit shade
Memories I have are moments to hold
They drift in and out, no reason to cry
Flickering pictures they too have grown old
Endless images from life's last goodbye
They come without warning to fill my head
And leave me in tears, down my face they spread

Beneath the blanket of dreams, impenetrable nights, you have reason to cry,
Our bastions of hope are now but ruins and deserted streets,
The walls of the heart that seemed fortresses stand ready to fall, one by one.
I erred, a whisper in the ether, a phantom in the sweet realm of memory.
Weep, my love, in the echoes of the evening, weep as the day crumbles,
Stretch your tears along the thread of time, beads of invaluable sorrow,
We tread in the wake of the stars we promised to keep alight,
And let the fog of forgetfulness swallow them, one by one, into the abyss of indifference.
I now wander, prisoner in the labyrinth of my own mistakes,
I confess, with faltering words, that our balance's sentinel has wearied,
When promises broke, as rose petals detach
From the stem of pride, leaving only the thorns, sharp and cold.
You have every reason, oh, you have all reasons, in the cool of the descending evening,
To strew the ashes of my errors in the path of barefoot steps,
In the twilight that unfolds its salvific melancholy toward us,
You have cause to embrace your soul overrun by fleeting disillusionments.
The echo of your steps in the silver forest of memories resounds,
The lament of silence, blossoming in a dance of our absence,
The rustling of leaves of longing is to me both symphony and reproach,
For I have committed the sin of negligence under the high vault of the bitter sky.
Cry, for whom to cast the syllables of your sigh into scattered seasons,
And let nature lay its pain upon the seraphic wings of mornings,
Building with each tear a sanctuary of our memories,
Where I shall remain, forever a tolling bell between what we were and what we lost.

Standing here with my heart on my sleeve
Trying to do no wrong
It doesn't matter what you believe
The day's they seem so long
I'm reaching for that something I just can't see
Time and time again it's gone wrong
Dreaming of what used to be
Brain fumbling for the right word
Love is something that comes and there it goes
Remembering what you heard
Time really shows
Thinking love never has a chance to grow
Silenced by the slamming door
Didn't even get to know
Was it a fling or something more
Time for me to look beyond what all hearts desire
Away from these long cold nights
Warming myself by the morning fire
Far away from the city lights
As the stars start fading from the sky
Which way shall I go now to find that road home
There is no reason to cry
I no longer wish to roam
Just can't find my way
Eyes searching for some distant light
Keep hoping and then just maybe some day
The way I choose will be right
And start leading me home
away from these lonely times
Where I'll no longer need to roam
Then I can sit and ponder these painful rhymes
