Premium Member When I Was Your Age

When I was your age some bad guys bombed a church
In the deep south, and four Sunday School girls were murdered
The President of the United States was assassinated
And then his brother was gunned down

We saw this in black, white and gray,
On TV sets that are smaller than your computer monitor.
It was a crazy, uncertain, scary time, and we were fearful.
Told the Russians were going to kill us with an atomic bomb

Some of us had bomb shelters.
We also had drills at school
Where we hid under flimsy desks
Putting our hands over our heads.

Elvis Presley came out and wiggled
And our mothers and fathers shut off the TV
We were told he was a bad guy
When I was your age.

Keough Echoes Elvis

Pressure to impress, perceived ineptitude, kills
Incapable of King imitation, blame plagued eyes
Publicly pressed to deliver sought after replica
Infiltrated by inescapable history Ben despised

Failed expectation driven prime of life suicide
Hailed Presley descendant, drifted pale ghost
Image Siamesed by status of rock relic
Near half century after legend's last show

Name advantage presented pedestal
Keough's fears disallowed him to use it
Comparisons ping ponged constantly
Admirers did so in Grandad's perusal

Poverty is struggle, earning the right to survive

Power's hunger pressure cooked untimely suicide

Premium Member Marilyn and Elvis

Marilyn and Elvis, iconic, and well-loved, cherished, beloved.
Loved and beloved in the same sentence? Only for these two.
They both have a vulnerability and a tragic back story
Elvis had to live for his twin, Aaron, who died in the womb

Marilyn had to reinvent herself, so someone would love her
Both unaware of how beautiful they were; neither understanding
We who grew up in the sixties wanted to fall in love with them
They were both edgy, a bit out there, classically unique, daring.

They both caused parents to shudder, and talk.
Anyone who can make Ed Sullivan blush is okay with me.
They were sex symbols, without trying to be.
Okay, Marilyn tried. All Elvis had to do was give you his look.

That smoldering look that made you gasp
They were our beautiful people, our icons,
The ones we all wanted to be; the ones we would be
When we grew up. We all aspired to be Marilyn and Elvis.
Better yet, Marilyn and Elvis.

Bixby

(Dedicated to Bill Bixby who passed away November 21, 1993)

I loved to watch you in the late seventies.
You were a gifted actor and I'm sure that everyone agrees.
Whenever you got angry, Lou Ferrigno took over for you.
You were great as David Banner and as Tim O'Hara too.

You starred in My favorite martian before I was born.
Your death in 1993 made this nation mourn.
You were cremated and your ashes were scattered at sea.
You starred in at least one movie with Elvis Presley.

In the Apple dumpling gang, Susan Clark went wild when you bought that bed.
She misunderstood your intentions and hit you in the head.
Your death shows that life can be cruel.
You were a great guy and that's pretty cool.

so the republican party says.

Lee, Richard and Maurice Petty go,
against each other in the same race.
Richard beats his brother and daddy,
which gives racing world a new face.

Paul and Best kicked out of Germany,
we are not really sure what they did.
Clarabelle speaks in her final show,
simply voices the words, “Goodbye Kids”.

The world’s moving faster and higher,
technology seems to have no cap.
Back in Wakenda, at 3 years old,
I’m still taking an afternoon nap.

Sad news today, February 6th in our year 2011
To "The Great Gig in the Sky" sell out in Heaven

My favourite blues rock guitarist, Mr Irish Gary Moore
Joins the "Midnight Blues, "Too Tired" no more will he tour

At fourteen years of age he received his first guitar
Like many budding rockers aspirations to be a rock star

The Beatles, Elvis Presley and the amazing Albert King
Heavily influenced this left hander, who made his right hand sing

As he grew past his teens, the genre he'd enter would mean
The likes of John Mayall's Bluesbreakers and Hendrix, now he's seen

Blues Rock it was to be, when Peter Green caught his ear
If you grew up with this maestro, you'll know his career

It started way back, way back in 1969
Skid Row, from Dublin he joined, as the music industry would find

This is where his association began, with Lynott, bassist extraordinaire
Many nights sharing the blues, this two Irishmen would share

His solo career just grew and grew, then into Thin Lizzy he would blend
Sharing the Black Rose stage with Phil his Irish friend

The blues became his life, with two Albert's who'd share his stage
Guesting with his 'Midnight Blues Band' many a jam they would engage

I now close my humble tribute, for he'll always be in my heart
On this day in Estepona, Spain, my hero in final depart

Lisa Marie

You died in 2023 and your dad died in 1977.
After living for 54 years, you went to Heaven.
You have lost your life and that is very sad.
Now you have been reunited with your dad.
You did charity work just like your father did.
Your dad loved you and you were his only kid.
As your fans grieve, they're sad and depressed.
Your life ended after you went into cardiac arrest.
When CPR was performed, your heart was restarted.
But you still died and your fans are broken-hearted.
You died a few weeks before you would've turned 55.
Your fans are devastated because you didn't survive.

[Dedicated to Lisa Marie Presley (1968-2023) who died on January 12, 2023]

~ In the Kremlin ~

To the melody of 'In the Ghetto'
Recorded by Elvis Presley, c. 1966

On a cold and dreary Moscow morn
Another Commie baby born
In the Kremlin; in the Kremlin

Well his mama said
hope you don't like bread
'cos I only have potato shreds
in the Kremlin; in the Kremlin

So he grew up lean
And nasty mean
Joined the KGB
Made him just like me* *Like me, V. Putin
In the Kremlin; in the Kremlin

Now he didn't see
My raging jealousy --
He thought I'd let him be
Run fast and free --
But truth be known
His seeds were sown
He'd moan and groan
In misery
And I* set him up... *I, V. Putin

He thought fortune smiled:
He'd gun down planes
And he'd shoot up trains
But when he goofed
They fried his brains
In the Kremlin; in the Kremlin... (Fadeout)

Premium Member You Were Always On My Mind

Maybe I didn't listen when you told me
Your heart was gentle and kind
Maybe I didn't understand, but you could
have shown me...

All the reasons you were going to move on
All the feelings that were finally gone
All the chances I had actually blown!

Maybe I didn't know you
because I never knew
the way that you would leave me
deceive me with the honest truth
Believe me, darling – I never knew

Finally, I let you down for the last time
You're going away to never return
And I don't have a right to follow you
Into the future where you’ll be without me

Girl, I'm sorry that I never sold you
On the belief that I was the King of Rock
You said I was like a stone instead,
Always holding you down so you'd
Nearly sink like a rock!

Maybe I didn't know you
Quite as well as I should have
Because I didn't know you
Would leave me without a second thought

All the reasons that I love you
Have been buried with our past
You are the reason that I'm discouraged

This King of Rock just doesn't roll like
he did when he was there beside you,
bringing hope to the heart, faith to the soul
feelings that were dim to the brilliance of a light
so alive it feels like, here on the inside...

Maybe I will never believe you
could just leave me without a reason to…
Sing this song, pleading with you
to listen to my heart - it is beating for you!

Yes, darling - You were always on my mind
YOU WERE ALWAYS ON MY MIND

My birthday is on February 1,
and have searched for celebs with that birth date.
but I did not find anyone inspiring.
There were people like Harry Styles, Brandon Lee,
    and Lisa Marie Presley;
and a list of names and pics unfamiliar!
I know nothing about these so called celebs,
nor, do I want to !
        So, all that is left is to speak of me;
    I was born in snow.
In a Winter storm that is,
came into the world crying and never stopped.
Mom said I was dramatic- an old soul,
Grandma said write it, so I did and I do;
have known too much death, sometimes
I need to go inner to find me !
