Chink - For the Atheist Contest
CHINK (for The Atheist contest) A cosmic mistake produced creatures and plants So daffodils could have just happened by chance A silvery moon in a star spangled sky Could have cropped up as the years passed us by The hills and the vales and the wind in your sails Pretty reef fishes and dolphins and whales Snowflakes and icicles, glistening lakes Things that just happen and nobody makes I’m just not convinced that some bloke on a cloud Made Presley and Bowie and (Boy) George O’Dowd It ain’t your God planning with all of his might Nature veers off and sometimes it’s right You stepped from the sea with moonlight reflecting In your ocean slicked hair and your silken wet skin And not that my doubt nor my disbelief altered But as you stood there in the moonlight I faltered If perfect is ten and okay’s a seven I look at you and I see an eleven The tiniest chink in my atheist view For what else explains the perfection of you 26 November 2018
