Weighting and Watching

I had my blood drawn to find out.
If there were issues with some doubt.
My doctor said it's time to move.
Get off your ass, get in the groove.

Cut down on sweets, glucose is high.
I know it's hard, but you gotta try.
Type 2 diabetes is not much fun.
Don't make me get out my new (shot) gun.

So since the message has finally hit home.
I'm here to tell it in this poem.
I shared the news with my sweet sister.
And now on my foot is a blister.

You see she bought me a fitbit.
So now I no longer just sit.
It keeps me very motivated.
To get my steps and hips girated.

It's funny cuz it's very true.
Do as I say, not as I do.
She said don't eat after 7:00 at night.
But she confessed she had lost the fight.

She hunted for her daughters stash.
Then soon she found that candy cache.
Like a young school girl she indulged.
Until her aching stomach bulged.

But, I digress, we're only human.
You can only eat so much with cumin.
And the next day she made her goal.
God bless her heart, God bless her soul.

So now when we get on the scale.
Sometimes we lose, sometimes we fail.
Butt, ;) we both get tired of the botching.
Of all this weighting and this watching.

Note: This poem is brought to you by Andrea Dietrich's prodding me to write some more poems. :) <3 :)

If I Could

If I could I would lay down near an running brook,
If I could, I would sit for hours in a field of grass,
IF I could, I would sit under a watefall, let the water runneth over,
IF I could, I would just set flight, to see over the cliff to get a better look.

Walk, dont run laugh not be mean, its ok to cry, dont have to hide,
My dearest friend, come walk with me, next to my side, not ahead, nor behind
Never again do you need to wear that fake mask, you are only human,
IF I could, I would, let go of my inner self, relinquish all my pain,
Bow my head, inhale deeply, and fall asleep in natures splendor,
For I know I will be safe from harm, for it is true that animals, love unconditionally,
They only ask for love in return, their eyes reveal their inner soul, with them, you only have to be yourself, no conditions, no strings attached, no schedules to keep, just two arms to hug and embrace them always...

If I COULD, I WOULD, love til it hurts, and find a reason to smile, for its been quite awhile.

Through black and gold

I wrote a hymn for all of us who are struggling. Remember that we are the light and we're never alone. Keep shining. Keep believing.

Through black and gold
By Michelle Morris
17/05/2026

It's dark here, Lord
Your name is the only light
I'm frightened and battle weary
No longer wanting to stay and fight

And yes, I know, Lord
That you are always by my side
But I'm only human - only human
Sometimes the fears don't subside

I lift my voice and sound your name
I say a prayer and raise Heaven's flame
For there's a fire that flows through me
And that fire you share, it sets me free

I lift my heart and ignite my soul
The love you give me, it makes me whole
No matter where, no matter how
I know you'll be there, Lord, through black and gold

It's lighter here, Lord
Your name has risen my soul
I'm calmer and stronger now
I'm ready to rise and be bold

And yes, I know, Lord
That you are always by my side
But I'm only human - only human
I'll hold on to faith and thrive

I lift my voice and sound your name
I say a prayer and embrace Heaven's grace
For there's a hope that flows through me
And that grace you share, it sets me free

I lift my heart and ignite my soul
The love you give me, it makes me whole
Through every day, in every way
I know you'll be there, Lord, through black and gold

I lift my voice and sound your name
I say a prayer and raise Heaven's flame
For there's a fire that flows through me
And that fire you share, it sets me free

I lift my heart and ignite my soul
The love you give me, it makes me whole
No matter where, no matter how
I know you'll be there, Lord, through black and gold

I know you'll be there, Lord, through black and gold
Through black and gold

a hundred thoughts a minute

I have addictions
I’m laying in my garden midnight bathing
there’s something in my system
something’s on the way from which I need saving
tomorrow I have a free house
I’m thinking of inviting ten men
there’s more chance of that
than seeing all of my friends
yeah it’s really quite disarming
I’m always told that I’m their best
would you say I’m charming
or shall I just give it a rest?
I crave better connection
it’s only human after all
but I come with all this baggage
the bump in the pavement which made you fall
I try to be polite
I’m told i’m too nice
I try to be in charge
I’m told i’m cold as ice
I suppose you can’t win them all
I’ve been thinking about weddings
meanwhile tinder has me hidden
is it a curse or is it a blessing
that I’m over six foot tall
but the world just keeps on spinning
and I don’t think about that at all

Redemption

Redemption

I hear it, the steady dripping outside my window.

Unleashed from the Heavens like the sins of sinners craving peace.

Lost, and in agony, both seeking release.

Release from pain, guilt, loss, and grief,

Oceans of memories offer no relief.

The mind stealing fragments, hiding them away,

Til we cannot remember, the trauma, and pain.

Oh, to be innocent again like a newborn child,

Before we were damaged, our minds defiled.

Before we saw things, we should never have seen,

The world has turned us hard and mean.

Searching for peace in a world at war,

We do what we want, no one cares anymore.

Guilt, and rage, betrayal, and pain,

Emotions released, in the steady rain.

We cannot undo, what is already done,

We cannot cry victory, when no one has won.

We cannot control, what we have no control of,

The rain will still fall, like tears from above.

Let go of the past, it can never be again,

We can no long dwell, on what might have been.

Sometimes the mind bears til it breaks,

Forced to hold more, than we are able to take.

But the breaking, they say, allows the mind to heal,

We have to let go, we have to feel.

As we fall on our knees, in the rain and mud,

Revelation comes; it always does.

We learn there are two halves to each whole,

Good, and evil, friend, and foe.

The dark in all hides beneath the skin,

Where no one can see, hidden within.

Which side will lose, which side will win,

It’s the side you feed, are you sinner, or friend?

I still hear it, the dripping of rain in my ear,

I open the door, it’s only me here.

I step outside, I can hardly see,

My head in my hands, I fall to my knees,

As the water drowns me, in its cold embrace,

Rivers of rain, run down my face.

I feel the release, as I am redeemed,

If just for tonight, I hear myself scream.

It is me, that I fight, most of all,

The darkness, the light, which one will call.

Whatever the answer, what will be will be,

We are all only human, I will still be me.

As I stumble inside and into my bed,

I think I still hear it…or is it only in my head…

Premium Member Brooklyn, N.Y. Usa 2009 (Revised)

A lost monopoly game
Williams fright, bridge, faith
and urban blight, Williamsburg.

Soot gray and brick red
the buildings stand
slumped, shrouded
death in the abundance
of vacant buildings.

Waste strewn sea
of asphalt, concrete, and urban dreams.
Cracks housing cigarette butts
form paper chains at the bases
of forlorn locust trees.

Sickly trees, popping from between
wrought iron barricades spiked manmade thorns
an Appleseedian affectation of defiance
toward a city of cave dwellers.

Doors, blind, windowless..no eye out or in..
unwelcoming entries..present
surfaces flat, color-chip palettes
for the graffiti “artist” latest spray painted
monstrosity
“ahhhhhhhhhh urban art!”

Two story warehouse walls writhe
their surfaces adorned
with an effluence of madness? grafetti....
Throw backs with paint tubes?
Or Jackson Pollacks with aerosol cans?

Sunday mornings only human grace;
bagel bitters, their sideburn squiggles
the only reassuring reminder of the reverent.
Their continuing presence
these Hasids with prayer shawls dangling
these monochromatic breathes of fresh air
present as the only harbor of safety, sanity,
as a lost girl child returns to her native
Brooklyn.

Premium Member Growing Pains

Every family has them

These unsettling times, these misunderstandings

Times when many things come into play

In most cases these wee spats are soon over and forgotten

But sometimes differences run deeper

Because of other factors

Such as jealousy, middle child syndrome, personality

It's only human nature at play

The necessity for all to find our place

In the overall scheme of life

To establish one's self in the pecking order

And accepting it without malice, without jealousy

A hard lesson to learn when we're brand new at he game

Always suspecting that siblings

Are the ones receiving preferential treatment

In reality, they are reacting in exactly the same matter

Trying their best to learn the ropes

To understand what life means, what life is all about

But we never do have all the answers

Even if we survive those uncertain early years

And live to the ripe old age of thirty...

Well that is what old age is when you're a teenager

Please be assured, you WILL get through

And be a well adjusted adult

Disrupting Comfortable Noise

Wrap This Around Your Metal Brains

Don’t sing along with her—
it upsets her, brings
her close friends into this.

And I’m only human, I think—
I was, or used to be anyway.
Not anymore. I stay awake,
hungry, not wanting
to eat food because
the girls and their dad have to.

I sneak down late, before sleep,
to rummage a bit—
only to be told not to eat
the food that is theirs.

I’ve adapted by losing weight.
With that came madness—
a sort of punishment.
I’m gorgeous and suffering
quietly so no one sees it,
reinforcing another solid,
popular mental illness,
by the way.

And this is my business,
my purpose: dull and witless.

Talking through this, I fear,
would scare a regular person.
I hate this.
I won’t talk to therapists.
Counseling’s out of the question.

I don’t have to pay anyone
for writing this. I don’t care.
Talking to people
I’m smarter than—
this way, one day,
when people come across this,
I’ll be the famous one.

Cold, corrupt, peace we battle heart
It is our strongest weakness we grow strength
Harden kill of destruction upon vengeance thirst
Wasteland to deception save your own breath
Everything we dream as one for beauty to prosperity
But have we lost ourselves in translation
The mist no longer refreshing beneath burning sun
Dying souls walking reaper demise he breathes
Insanity mind or sane reality gone wildly disturbed
Say we only human where problems exist
Are they ours or world which breaks us down
Who are we as people your integrity you hide
Have we become wasteland where nothing grows
Blackened out by devastation, tear soaked by ground
Is beauty not in eyes of beholder we find love
Thriving being with ambitious dreams to stars
Is man their own demise consequences of their actions
Or one who flipped their lid in crazy world we live

In a dream I saw myself in a bright room, sitting and writing down a poem
The experience was temporary; I soon returned to a normal frame of mind
I felt another presence besides myself, suddenly I was awoken by a loud hum
As I search in my head what was it I said, and wondering what I might find

I was sure about this vision I had, the humming noise? An oscillating dry fan
Feeling outside normal perception of space and time for a cold spell
I was the transient, the other conscious in a dream that seemed had no plan
In a waking state of consciousness still my soul is clouded, and here I dwell

No recollection or recognizing my true nature or of my ignorance
Unaccepting this illusion of life instead of its reality, certain that I must
not condemn me to suffering and deadly defiance,
I attempt to escape the life cycle of the universe, in this I trust

A life of austerity, devote myself to seeking knowledge
Unattach myself to any possession which result in greed
Achieving liberation by spirituality this I pledge
and eventually achieve a liberated state, indeed

I will not incriminate myself but become a good friend, a giver
And not search for another roadway another dead end
Time lapses, searching ends where the narrow road runs into a river
Flowing as one with a body of water, an experience to transcend

And if the microorganisms might be killed in every breath I’ve taken
by the immune system, discipline will be my task
When they call me lunatic when no finds of a scientific explanation
I’ll show that it is wise to keep and wear the surgical mask

The fundamental aim to perfect our soul essential, it took eons to rise above
Speak the truth if it is pleasant or remain silent if the truth is painfully lumen
All has a living soul in them, and all should be treated with respect and love
This can seem like a dream, and in my dreams, I am only human
