Ted -Beloved Gift
We have walked so many roads together
Through sunny afternoons on dusty pathways with the breeze;
Traveled many miles through your fourteen years
To grassy fields of dogs shows where you became a champion;
Now the minutes and the miles - precious memories -
Playing Sandy in a production of Annie - never missed a cue;
To carry with me as I go my way
Your joy for life my forever companion;
You taught my heart the music of a love song
As you jumped up each day to greet me with a wet kiss;
Then sang each word to leave it in my heart
With a wagging tail in a celebration of perpetual motion;
When my road gets long, I will sing your song
Of chasing squirrels and toys - rolling over to scratch your back on the lawn;
Remembering my gift of God
Theodore Edgar Bear - your name means gift of God;
Now the time for us to part on an August day
Too soon to go our separate ways;
I pray that as you close your loving eyes
You hear your creator say to you;
Beloved - I cherish you - creation of my heart
Beloved - Precious one - Good and faithful friend.
For Hullabaloo the Masked Man - Champion Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier - Mr. Ted
Fresh Air
You ask is it fresh, is what fresh I say
The air that you feel on this warm summer day
That soft blowing breeze, which flows past your face
Invisible flight, no color, no trace
But there is no taste, no texture, no feel
If I say it is fresh, would you think I’m for real?
Surely you would, why would I lie
Fresher than fresh, direct from the sky
Just made this morning, a few minutes ago
How fresh do you need it, just let me know
I’ve got plenty in stock; in fact it’s on sale
Marked down today, you just can not fail
The price is just right, affordably so
Enjoy it right here or get it to go
Hundreds of uses let me bring them to light
For sailing a boat or flying a kite
For waving a flag or messing your hair
Nothing is better than fresh blowing air
Makes tumbleweeds move on their dry arid trip
Causes discarded paper to roll and to flip
Moves bright colored pinwheels to happily spin
Turns clothes on the line inside out, outside in
And open a window; you’ll see what I mean
That musty old room will smell new, crystal clean
And birds love it too, it helps them to fly
It dries up the streets if some rain passes by
It can come from the north, the west or the east
Or even the south if I dare say the least
It can be very cold, quite chilled to the bone
Or hot as the sun, up there all alone
Blowing softly or hard, hardly blowing at all
Through summer or spring or winter or fall
There’s fresh air by day and fresh air by night
Whatever you choose is sure to be right
You’ve so many choices, other places to go
Before you decide, I just want you to know
My air is the best, that’s what I’ve been told
Just look at the sign, over one billion sold
So buy it from me, you won’t have a care
Is it fresh, you may ask, it’s the freshest fresh air
Another One Left Alone
Just a little rant to say
the news from work was not okay!
An unattended child was left on a bus somewhere,
pretty sure that child had a scare.
Twenty-one minutes alone on a bus to summer camp.
That driver will get the pink slip,
because when a child is alone on a bus for any length of time
that is damaging to the child in the mind.
If you are a bus driver,
or a monitor like me,
searching the bus is not crazy.
When the last child gets off the bus
walk to the back and don't fuss.
Examine the seats one by one
then on the floor before you call in “done.”
A golden orange cat caught my attention
Sitting on my front porch I had no objection
No iota from where it had come
Pets around here were somewhat seldom
A generous coat and a tail with a kink
I kindly took over the kitty a drink
Not irritable it seemed to appreciate
I thought it could make an excellent mate
An absurd thought that could be costly
Just an admirable possibility
Feeling somewhat of an obligation
I'd engineer some accommodation
Moon emits beams enhancing a bright green iris
Genial in nature that was clearly obvious
Later at the door there was a knock
There stood a man and a girl in a frock
Making sense of them I put it into order
The cat belonged to this mans' daughter
Written in 45 minutes on 4th July 2016
oh good, the lights are on, the McHenry family cheered
they loved visiting Auntie Mable
As they approached the door she came out wearing a coat
Oh, dear, she told them. I have concert tickets. I was just leaving.
They left, disappointed because she baked the best cookies.
Ten minutes later old Mister Groggins showed up
noting the lights were on.
Good, he thought, because Mable was his favorite listener.
As he was about to knock the door opened.
Mable said “Come in, come in, I was just coming home from the store.”
Mable keeps her coat next to the front door on a hook.
Depending upon who knocks,, she can say she is either coming or going.

With you on the Ground…
And I floating…
Every once in a while
A breeze lifts me
The clouds hide me
The sun warms me
And you tug on my
String and I join you
On the ground
Ever so briefly
Until there is a reason to float
Even for a few minutes
Do not let go
Of my string
My arms kite-spread
Thinking I like this
There would be nothing
But a floaty feeling
Nothing to keep me here
If you weren’t there to
tug me down
A raindrop splashes on my cheek
You tug me away
Before the
Downpour hits.
Beyond the curtain – past the pane
There lies a world I thought I knew.
The knowing and belief now being slain
And the chill begins to lay the dew.
Once solid steps seem unsure and faltered now.
The way ahead seems awkward and mistrusted.
A hollow void that grabs and pulls somehow
Is changing life to empty and molested.
There above ride broken clouds upon the newborn day.
The trees – some grass – some leaves and snow.
Everything familiar in Life’s ‘normal’ way
But today, I feel, I just don’t know.
The throbbing throat begins to swell then reality interrupts.
I fight the tears and try on sanity to hold.
But the pleading of a broken soul erupts
To enforce the fact that Life can be so cold.
The face begins to heat as tears begin to swell.
Like Life, they slide the cheeks then disappear.
A weakness stabs the spirit in its shell
Then the certainties of life return with fear.
Just in case tales hold true, at the beginning of each day,
I peel the curtain to send a wish far beyond the pane.
I say ‘Good Morning Chigger’ in a begging ‘hear me’ way.
I am speaking to the ‘maybe’ I might find my friend again.
Through the minutes, hours, - all the days.
Years of bond together – times apart.
The passing of a pet by Life’s uncaring ways
Is when you’ll know how deep it lived - within your heart.
Good Morning Chigger January 2025
The child was walking home from school
Almost running now,
The anticipated fun awaiting him at his door
The dog always knew ahead of time his coming
and would always be early at the door ,
tail wagging , tongue flapping,
The Mother always knew the time
and would let the dog out the door just minutes before.
The boy was just a few blocks away now smiling from ear to ear
Knowing playtime with Brit was almost near
Then,
A tire screaching, a deathly howl,
had stopped the boy in his tracks.
He could feel death in the air
He could feel a crushing hush settle on him
He broke into another run
He reached his house
to see the truck driver carrying his dead friend
He never knew a broken heart before that day
His mother swooped him up and tried to stop the screams
There seemed to be weeks of tears
The boy quit playing outside
and would only go out to throw stones at passing trucks
to suppress his anger
And one broken windshield later
He was not allowed near the roadway
A year had passed slowly
and the parents brought another dog
It was of the same breed
A valiant attempt to heal a six year old heart
But the memory of Brit remains to this day
Forever buried in the old mans heart
Scream, bang, thud.
No, not so fast, you've got nowhere to go.
Let's step into the past of just a few minutes ago.
Yes, you can see a steel in my eyes to know that you can't beat the demon in me.
I think you understand that now you'll never be free.
Blood's on your hands, look at what you've done.
Stealing money for drugs - how did that kill someone?
Look down at her - LOOK at what you've done!
Young girl who took a wrong turn to face you with your gun!
Guilt's running in your mind, excuses you can't find.
Confusion's reigning in, your mind's turning on you.
The walls are closing in, there is no way through.
The problem you face is now a different one
You made the mistake of your killing being witnessed by one
You lacked the thought and foresight to plan on any outcome
I'm a man who can't sleep because of what I've done.
I'm a man who has killed many in the work that I've done
Instead of crawling the walls in the madness of one
I use my skills to locate people like you who do what you've done
With a duty to protect my country and its good people from anyone
I hereby conclude my report on the damage you've done
Give me the gun or I'll take it from you.
Give it freely to me and I'll make it quick for you.
Yes that's right hand it over to me.
Bang, thud.....bang!
Never again will you hurt anyone.
Beginning.
Jealous and beyond my surprise,
I see the audience...stare at me...
A million eyes stare vacantly or with meaning
I know I must be happy, but I am crying again
He's looking after you
He cares about you
And I...and I...
Am practically priceless
Sexy sweat drips on the floor
I guess you don't love me no more...
Juggling doubts of shame...
Jealous and beyond my surprise,
I see the audience...stare at me...
A million eyes stare vacantly or with meaning
I know I must be happy, but I am crying again
He's looking after you
He cares about you
He desires you...
I'm upset because I never knew
That I...that I...
Am practically priceless
Sexy sweat drips on the floor
I guess you don't love me no more...
Juggling doubts of shame...
This love between us didn't work out
Out of the blue...I have no doubt
In my mind that you weren't the kind of friend I once knew
But, I'm stronger than you...I'm sure it's true
I'm sure it's true that you're not my kind
I'm left behind, only to find
Your shadows and reflections of plenty
Turn the music up for a few minutes please
You are as tasty as crackers with cheese on it
And I...and I...
Am practically out of my mind right now
Somehow, there's some hope in store
I want to live, but to live in reality -
I'm an attention whore and more...
I adore not I...
I adore not I...
why? Why?
Left behind to the core
Go ahead and slam that door
Say it behind my back -
The insults that are lined up in a rack
You gossiper...
You traitor...
You foolish brat...
You snitch...
You nasty hoe...
Get lost...
Slit me and please me -
My blood runs freely
JUST GO....GO WITH THE FLOW
You...ahhh...you...
You are nothing to me at this moment
This anger tortures me so...I never meant
To leave scars on my own body
I am the only one that understands
Where I stand
In my so-called house...
I'm as sneaky as a rat or a mouse
I like being abused,
But I hate the aftershocks of being used
Bullied most of my life
I'm pretty sure it hurts being handsome and having to deal with perpetual strife
The End.
