Premium Member How I Snagged Joe (And the Rest Is History)

Hot August, 1974, I was back for my second year at college,
having just settled into a new place at Anita Apartments,
right next to the guys’ apartment complex called Tanner’s.
My first night, we answered a knock at our door.
Steve Dietrich, a friend of my roommate, entered our apartment,
but my eyes went immediately to the younger man with him.
That would be his brother Joel, there for his first year at BYU.
My first thought was this: How shy he is, so reserved. . . but so adorable.
He was tall and thin and cute as the dickens.
They stayed for just a while, and by the time they left,
I’d formulated my big plan:
to get to know this boy Joel (who everyone just called Joe).

There was to be a parking lot dance that weekend,
and so I waited expectantly, hoping all week
to catch a glimpse of this boy I’d found so attractive,
but no matter how often I strolled past his apartment,
my opportunity for a “chance encounter” never occurred.

The night of the dance arrived and I was right there,
all decked out in my colorful tight top with bellbottoms,
long luscious lashes curled and pink frost lipstick applied.
When I caught sight of Joel, he was slow dancing with some girl.
A blonde with glasses, she was rather plain and smaller than me.
I was not pleased to see her with Joe, and I thought to myself:
Hmmmm, who does she think she is? I saw him first,
and he is NOT going to stay with her tonight.

As they danced, I fixed my eyes on him,
my beautiful, long-lashed, sultry green eyes.
He looked up and saw me then. I must have taken him by surprise
because I did not lower my gaze.
I wanted him to know that he was going to be mine,
so I willed him with my gaze to break away from that blonde
and come to me.
And so he did. . the rest is history.

Beside me at this moment, lying on our bed, watching TV,
is the man who today bears little resemblance to that
very young man I met 35 years ago.
I turn to him and ask, “Do you remember the VERY first time you saw me?”
He replies, “I don’t know; a parking lot dance?”
Well, at least he came close. . .

Adam Loves To Doubt

ADAM LOVES TO DOUBT

The hand of man touched the mind of God,
And the word became flesh!
Thus Adam was seeded, planted in the Garden of Eden.

Lord, I live in a sea of infinity, said he, yet there is no one here but me.
The sun burns my virgin brain, and my soul with ferule flame.
The plants and animals, short and tall, I named them all,
But, there are none here that out to me call.
There is the dance of the menagerie, but again, none dance with me.
Oh Lord, I am troubled, help me a mate, and my inexpiable desire slake.

So, I lay my head here among the stars teeming, dreaming with desires.
Make her with long arms like spiral galaxies, to love me, oh Sire;
Breasts like two pale moons, rising in a soft bed of morning glory.
Color her thighs like red-hot rainbows,
Bejeweled pillars inlayed, a fiery arch in heaven to span my fervent ache.
Her skin, make it akin to velvet fronds, dew drops in a morning fog,
Make her right Lord, fair as lunar light rising.
Make her voice like a thousand song- birds singing, birthing the blushing dawn,
Her pregnant lips, like butterflies collecting nectar from fragrant spring meadows.

No grain of sand am I, no mote of dust in a cosmic sky.
Are you so busy running infinity, that you have no time for me?
My small world is full of grateful grandeur, but my monumental heart is empty,
You have made it of gold, and filled it with coal.
Would that I could be a fly on the ceiling of the universe so high,
To understand your plan for man when Gods meet in secret to discuss what is human.
You wander randomly like a drunken hobo, your creation below,
What is our condition here? Do you know? Do you care?

Under the evening starlight, take my bones and make her a delight,
A rib to a summer’s breeze, and name her for the twilight.
Put flesh on my bone, so I am no longer alone,
Call her Eve, so to her I may cleave,
Do it Lord, so I may believe!

If You Believe

If You Believe

If you believe emotions are not just a women?s thing
If you believe a relationship is based on trust, truth and openness
If you believe intimacy is part of a sacred union
If you believe a friendship is more than just communication

Let love guide you here
Let my eyes touch your soul
Let me be the one
Let us learn together
Let us dance in the sun

If you believe a kiss is the ingredient for passion
If you believe holding hands is the beginning of a spiritual bond
If you believe in supporting the one you love is through a simple act of kindness
If you believe that compassion is not just through words but action

Let love guide you here
Let my eyes touch your soul
Let me be the one
Let us learn together
Let us dance in the sun

If you believe embracing your inner child helps to grow emotionally
If you believe jumping in a puddle while it?s pouring out is ok
If you believe in poetry of the heart is the intimacy of the soul
If you believe that your heart beat is the pulse to life everyday

Let love guide you here
Let my eyes touch your soul
Let me be the one
Let us learn together
Let us dance in the sun

If you believe that through your eyes you can see your lover?s soul
If you believe that intimacy is not just a sexual thing
If you believe through the act of compassion we can heal a wounded heart
If you believe in forgiveness and are not afraid to cry

Let love guide you here
Let my eyes touch your soul
Let me be the one
Let us learn together
Let us dance in the sun

If you believe in everyday blessings
If you believe in the diversity of creativity
If you believe that gods love is the universal language
If you believe in the strength a family provides and its ties

Let love guide you here
Let my eyes touch your soul
Let me be the one
Let us learn together
Let us dance in the sun

Dance

I see heaven in the blue of her eyes. I see a beautiful angel here with me tonight. You
dance in my heart. Your symphony plays inside of my head. I want to take your rhythm and
move it from the floor to my bed.
I fall to my knees, fall to my knees and pray. Heaven don't let me let this girl go. Can
she forever stay?

And we'll dance for love. Dance to all the things that make us whole. And we'll dance for
love. May our burning hearts never grow cold.

I'll love you forever if love is all it takes to keep you mine. And we'll stand strong
together. I promise to be your rock for all time.
You're my queen, my angel. You're everything I've ever dreamed of. You're the air I
breathe. The oxygen I'm so desperately in need of.

And we'll dance for love. Dance until the stars come out to play. And we'll dance for
love. Dance until those stars begin to fade.

I'll follow you wherever. I'll never let you walk this world alone. I'll always have a
shelter. Standing next to you feels like home. I love you more each passing day. I've
never felt so high as I do now. Being with you is the closest thing to flying. Not even
gravity could bring me down.

And we'll dance for love. Dance for all the words left unspoken. And we'll dance for
love. Dance for all the hearts that once were broken.

You hold your head up high despite all the things that try to break you. And I love who
you are. The good and the bad and all else that makes you.
You are the other half of me; the better part that completes me as a man.
And you'll never have to be gone for me to know exactly what I have.

And we'll dance for love. Dance for an eternity of days. And I'll dance for you. You're
beautifully imperfect and I wouldn't take you any other way.

Our Dance

I'll dance in repetitive circles

spinning carelessly in my teal dress of tears.

I have never been able to escape this pain for a few long years.

But with the violin drifting in the air

I'll dance by myself holding on to no-one and nothing but choice.

I'll dance on and on in the silence unitl I realize I have lost my own voice.

I'll stop, cry

wipe them to the floor

And just sway in dancing rhythem some more.

Night will tarnish the sky but the moon will loom

I will take no notice until you're presence enters silently into the room.

I'll glance over your way with crimson escaping my face.

So you do not notice my hesitance of your being i'll concentrate on keeping my own
distant pace.

You will sweep across the room regardless until you have reach my side

where I will take your outstretched hand, and on we shall glide.

Moving in sync, holding this moment until the very end.

I'll smile a shy smile affraid of what my heart may send to my lips.

You have hands of warmth, strong and careful

You have balance and control over this dance that was once my own.

With you here like this i am reminded of what it feels like to not be alone.

Swept by a love song played smoothly across the piano and violin

I will move closer to your heart, I will trace the outline of your face with my eyes

Dancing like this makes me want to hide my heart in a better disguise.

But I can't because you show me what love feels like without uttering a single word

Not one syllable nor vowel is heard.

You show me passion with a look, you hold me not with you're arms but rather your
heart.

I'm affraid I could never let this or you go.. Trust me we will never depart...

Do You Remember Dancing Along To Harry

Do you remember?
When first we met
When we were set up
By our so called friends
Tony and Gwen,
Who quickly abandoned us?
A quick introduction
Then they were gone
Leaving us with each other
How awkward was that?
Being left with a complete stranger
You would never have chosen me
In a million years
And you were not my perfect choice
I had someone different in mind altogether
But their we were
Having to make small talk
With an unsuitable partner
Making do for the moment
While planning an escape
Then the music started
And I asked you to dance
You reluctantly agreed
I wasn’t bothered either way
I thought just one dance
Then I could desert you
With a clear conscience
Then just as we walked, hesitantly,
Onto the dance floor
The up tempo number ended abruptly
And for a moment there was nothing
Just the two of us feeling foolish
And wondering just how
We could leave the dance floor with our dignity
Then the music began again
And Harry Nilsson started to sing
We looked at each other briefly
And resigned ourselves to our fate
There was an awkward coming together
I gingerly put my arms around you
And we shuffled along to the music
Hoping that time would speed up
And the experience be over quickly
But as we danced along to Harry
The gap between us slowly decreased
Inch by inch until we were as one
And at that moment I felt at home
All thought of escape melted away
I never wanted to leave again
And now I wanted time to stand still
So the dance would never end
We hardly left the dance floor all evening
And when we did it was brief
So eager were we to return to our embrace
“Without you” was the song
That we first danced to
And I have not been without you since

Moon of Love

the moon of love poem
want to dance under the moon light night,
to dance away under the stars so bright,
to hold you in my arms and let the music sway,
to let our souls drift away,

to dance so close in each others arms
to whisper sweet music charms,
to follow your steps in every move,
to follow the love in every tune,
drifting away under the moon
holding each other till moon is blue
stars at night so very bright

showing our love is all right,
dancing very close
dancing away very slow
lost in words in what we do say
holding each other in a certain way
close to me i feel your heart
beating to the music, i love that,

hand in hand the way we do
the music says a want you,
to kiss you by the sea,
whats the moon of love done to me,
i want to kiss you
and whisper your name,

let the music drive us insane,
letting things go and lets go mad
this music is so bad,
as you may see
this is what the moon of love does to me,

the stars are shining in heavens above
shining on to the moon of love,
beaming down to where we stand
looking above while holding your hand,
lets move close together and dance so slow
let the moon of love make our love flow,

together we dance and hold each other tight
whispering to you i love this night,
nothing going wrong nor storms are near,
come to me darling and hold me dear,
dance with me slowly
while a whisper your name
for my love for you will never change,

lets dance on the stars
where heaven is blue,
where the moon shines
all over you,
dancing away till the morning comes,
dancing away to the moon of love,,,,,

Your Fairy Tale

In your dreams, what do you see?
Do the innocent scream, is it the demons glee?
To the rescue he'll ride, oh what a charmer.
Those before his sword died, for he's your knight in shining armor.
The sugar plum fairies, dance in your head.
Hear as the wind carries, sounds of the newly wed.
This place is your own, your beautiful lie.
You'll never be alone, just look to the night sky.
Watch the stars fall, and watch the moon rise.
Is it the love you saw, reflecting from my eyes?
Will you take my hand, and dance among the stars?
Will you help me stand, and erase our burning scars?
Raise your head, look to the singing clouds.
We'll fall upon your bed, for sorrow's not allowed.
Close your eyes, it's not time to wake.
We'll erase the lies, and we'll never break.
Shall we run, across the field of a single rose?
This dream cannot be undone, for I'm the one you chose.
Please don't change your thoughts, please don't my dear.
It is love that you taught, to rid us of our fear.
Promise me this, you'll not think of the end.
Just one last kiss, should help the world mend.
Memories now clear, taking me away.
Don't fall a tear, He'll come back one day.
As you start to stir, awake from your sleep.
I'll make sure, angels continue to weep.
Did your lullaby dream, turn into horrifying scares?
Please do not scream, I'll destroy your nightmares.
Say it once more, "We shall dance without fright."
Our spirits will soar, for I'm your unrelenting knight.
I will not fail, you'll not see my death.
This is your fairy tale, so don't hold your breath.
