Political Futility

No more new year resolutions,
no more lie on government restitution,
no republic can survive its dilution
 no more pandemic blues,
 no more wild-eyed cons[iracy cues
 no more revenue that's due,
just a prayer for every ordinary me and you;

give me liberty, opinion and my own discretion
a say in the congressional gridlocked sessions
and give me my freedom of choice,
keep your Beemer, Lincoln, Lexus and Rolls Royce,
 help me vote, let me speak my voice;

let me give my fair share
 how much do you care
about health, hunger, poverty and medicare,
brother do you have a dime to spare,
is anyone with common sense there?

Where are the children too long missing
who's corporate behinds are you now kissing
what's with all the anger and the hissing,
end these shootings, hate fires the looting dissings
help the homeless and the poor, stop the dismissing
are your senate raging rants just visual political pissing?

Schumer, Pelosi, Manchin, McConnel and McCarthy
what is the point of your political party,
you play your little games of cat and mouse
while nothing is done in Senate or in House?

Get to work, do your jobs
stop the lobby dance and cut the hobnobs,
too long perhaps you hold power
all governments are now, equally soured
while the general population is deflowered.

Missing My Old Friends

I am writing this masterpiece
Addressing this poem to my old friends
It was like yesterday when we just met
Back to those days of innocence
When we had little social gathering at the college lobby
Thinking about future and made a promise
A promise that our circle will keep on going
Though we knew that distance and time will separate us
Those days were the best memories to cherish
Every little secret was a silly story to tell
Though there were many times we saw tears falling on our cheeks
We managed to laugh, love and be well
Because that's what our circle should be
Through best or worst, we're unstoppable!
So now we have separate roads to follow
I wonder where did friendship put our good memories
Now I see that our lives are ever changing
Do we still share the same philosophy in life?
Now you have good looking husbands at your side
Can we still find time to be together?
Do we still have the moment to share the same food and talk nonsense things?
Something that will make us crazy all day
Forget that we already have our own job
Forget that we are already the superior at home
Be little kids and do foolishness all over again?
Walking around and look for someone who could be grabbed and be our date?
Probably...Probably...Probably not.
I am pondering where this is poem going
I wonder if this poem will bring me to you
Letting you know how I miss your stupidity
Your heartbreaks, your pranks, everything...
But don't you ever think that I turn my back on you
Because every single moment in my life
I always have the thought in my mind
Someday we'll meet in crossroads
We'll reunite yet we'll realize
We are already a person with conviction
Made by struggles and test of time
A diplomatic one who talks more about reality
Than an idealist who always talks something about fantasy
But how I wish we'll go back to eighteen
Back when we were young and had good times to tell

Friday Night Check-ins

The days have been calm and collected.
The guests have been happy, content.
The weekday staff scurry out from the hotel
To avoid the upcoming event.

Weekend receptionists tremble
As the Friday night check-ins approach,
Fearing the tsunami of wrinklies
On their three-day excursions-by-coach.

The first vehicle’s brakes squeal their warning
As its door opens up with a sigh.
The girl at the desk and her male teammate
Watch the porchway with dread in their eyes.

The first wrinkly disembarks backwards,
Reaching up to be handed her Zimmer.
The scowl on her face giving more than a hint
Of the litany of protests within her.

Slowly the vehicle disgorges
Its fifty malcontent arrivals.
The front desk staff offer a brief heartfelt prayer
For their sanity, composure, survival.

Like an unerring wave of displeasure
The wrinklies shuffle in through the door,
Shoving aside anyone heading out –
They’ve made this manoeuvre before.

The party’s predominantly female,
Determined and far from benign.
Apart from one chap, in windcheater and cap
Looking hen-pecked and toeing the line.

They descend on reception like locusts,
Complaining, demanding and cackling.
The staff at the desk have nowhere to hide
From the surge of objections they’re tackling.

Ground floor room! No steps! Wheelchair access!
Why no lift? Single occupant! Porter!
The tottery old girl with the big Zimmer frame
Demands a young man to escort her.

The onslaught is tough and relentless
As the wrinklies press home their attack.
Then, deftly dealt-with, the tidal wave thins
As they head to their rooms to unpack.

Pleased with the way things were handled,
The reception-staff think they’ve survived.
But outside the lobby, brakes hissing with glee,
Another full coach has arrived…

Premium Member Tract Attack

So I’ve got a little secret
    ‘bout evangelism “tracts”.
See, they load us up each Sunday,
and we all plan our attacks.
Sometimes, we hear a sermon;
    sometimes, we even sing,
But mostly, it’s a Ponzi scheme
to build a brand new wing.
And when we hand ‘em out,
    we get a little star,
And sometimes, we get double points
    for going to the bars!
We count up all our stars;
the one who has the most
Is featured in the lobby
and gets to sit up close!
And lately, we’ve been filming
    when we go to proselytize;
We’re getting wise like serpents;
    YouTube lets us monetize!
The reason we encounter
is to make you feel distressed,
And to get you to throw money
in the hopes that you’ll be blessed.

Now if you think I’m serious,
you don’t know me so well.
But what is true is I believe
    in heaven and in hell.
The folks I know who hand those out
    believe in these things too,
Because they love with all their heart,
they’re called to see it through.
They’ve read God’s revelation:
     creation, fall of man.
They’ve read of Christ’s redeeming acts,
     according to God’s plan.
They’ve read the Holy Spirit’s grace,
    regenerating hearts.
They want to share the news they learned:
    this gospel in four parts.
The news they share is simple:
    that none seek after God,
That Christ died voluntarily
a thing most find quite odd.
They know that God is holy,
a God of love and wrath,
His love poured out as blood that day
    on each sinner’s behalf.
For those who would believe
    His saving act by faith,
Christ imparts his righteousness,
    escape due wrath unscathed.
There’s much more in the Bible,
a life’s worth there, in fact.
We want to share His life with you;
    we start with little tracts.

A Carafe of Wine

She was the hub of Christmas time but
when she got sick, the world they knew fell apart
The empty freezer hummed void of cookies and tarts,
as the old tree lay in the shed undecorated and bare.
In the lobby the doctor gathered her offspring and gave
them the sad news. "Your mom has cancer. She
only has a few weeks to live."

Dust to dust, soon she would be free
her last words,
"Don't forget to decorate the tree"

Tears were kept in check hands were linked
and souls regrouped. Only one broke the silence with
a verbal vow. "We are going to remember her, simply"

On the first Christmas without her they gathered
by the old oak table with a carafe of white wine
and a home made apple pie to die for. Ida who
had been nicknamed Idaho Potato peeled the
plastic wrap off the pie just like mom would do*

It was Christmas, mother had taught them
about wine reduction winks and Xmas slips

There in the center of the table was a puny tree
holding up a Victorian ornament. The one mom
had inherited from her mother,  back in 1952;

No throngs of gifts this year
only her voice humming in their sternums
keep it simple girls, keep it simple.

Things of beauty that sure time brings.

Curious fancy seeks fond allure:
This and that see precious and pure.

Greet new keepsake in subtle stuff:
Mellow wit takes beyond enough.

Zesty notions of weird flavours:
Fine devotion in bright colours.

Touch of finesse in hues and tints:
I am witness to silent hints.

So much to add to keeper's code:
Trinkets make glad in buying mode.

Miniature books in special norms:

I keep in mind my sacred finds:
Trust fond align for keepsake kind.

This vast hobby in lovely books:

I sit here now with fond content:
Read truth's endow in clear intent.
