Who do I become, when your shadow fades?
Not a man, but a map with the roads erased—
A shell with echoes where heartbeats once played,
A dusk without promise, the sun’s warmth betrayed.

I become the silence between the stars,
 Wandering empty, bearing invisible scars.
Each breath a question, unanswered, unheard—
The world still turns, but it spins out of word.

My laughter dims into distant rain,
Memories bloom, but they taste like pain.
I am not whole—I am the absence of light,
A clock that ticks only deep in the night.

The mirror denies me; I’m ghost in the glass,
A soul made of stillness that no prayers pass.
Without your compass, I falter and roam,
No place is shelter, no house is home.

But even as I unravel, piece by piece,
I cradle the ruins, refuse the release.
For to be broken by love is to still have known
A fire so bright, it burned to the bone.

And maybe, just maybe, the ashes remain—
A whisper of hope in the hollow of pain.

A Verse of Longing For God

A Verse of Longing for God

*************Sally Young Eslinger (C) 2020

I doubt I shall ever fully hear
The psalm my soul longs to write,
For it dwells in the source
Of its intended...
Singing between my heartbeats
In the Paleolithic hum of my ancient,
Ancient ancestors painting their first marks
Of self-expression, seeing stars glint
In the black eyes of bears...Oh!
But can I recall their distant canticles
And paint them anew along walls,
Retracing to the day of our creation?
To see the leaves of Eden rustling
In God’s breathing...
Alleluia. Alleluia!

The True Well Wisher:

The True well wisher :
Why is the life just a moment or two,
For our love, centuries aren't enough..
So let me ask God
for some more time, a new,
I have to live just here for you.
I have not to go away from you..
Now that you are there to share my pain,
Now that you share my pain,
Every pain is beautiful,
Now that you share my pain..
You are my true well wisher.
Your smiles are my real strength,
I got hope from them only.
Whatever atrocity the world does to me,
Your smiles or true love is my safety..
My life became very beautiful,
now where else would heaven be..

My life is from your heartbeats, from your true presence in my real life.
your wishes are my prayers now..
what a unique bond it is,
that your and my life have become one..
I'll come back to you only..
It's my promise, even if I die..
Now that you are there to share my pain,
Now that you share my pain,
Every pain is beautiful,
Now that you share my pain..
You are my true well wisher.

May 25th

I remember you
You who walked by my side
Through my giggles and sprints
The chaos of small feet
Yet you always stayed

I remember you
You who told me off when needed
A care my small mind didn't comprehend
Your heart did wonders within my own

I remember you
The white in a sea of shadows
Shadows that whispered little pains
All to show me the fool they thought me to be

I remember you
A child just like I was
But your presence, large
A guardian and a friend

Though time has made otherwise
Our journeys no longer in the same room
The echo of little heartbeats unheard of
It stayed with me, engraved,
Your sunlight, the jar of stars and the smile
Always and forever
Thank you

Our soul presence sought to conjure a rhythm,
to dance upon the stage of space and time
but since light refracted in body prism,
mind could not translate the intended chime.

Caged in form, soul yet felt surge of love warm,
accepting contortions of this domain,
befriending silence, thus taming the storm,
with egoic fears and desires to rest lain.

Life as a dream continued to roll on,
so though accepting what will be will be,
presence tweaked heartbeats, with each breath reborn,
melding with the void, joyous and carefree.

Fickle fate has no hold on hearts demure ~
Come what may, stoic spirits will endure

A Dreamer’s Dream

In my dreams, my thoughts wove
a tapestry, and on silken wings, I
watched their vision take flight.
Off they went, defying obstacles and
shaping destines with a great force
of might.
They painted a picture of blue skies
with limitless possibilities to reach
great heights.
I saw in my dreams how to unlock
the chains preventing me from
enjoying the starlight.

In this magical sphere of dreamland,
I saw fairies dancing with daisies in
their hair,
And watched as they gracefully
waved their silver wands, spreading
stardust everywhere,
My thoughts were clear, as they
could distinguish between fantasy
and reality.
As I felt my heart and soul released
feelings of stress as they found
peace and tranquillity.

With my eyes closed, under the
moonlight, I bask at the end of my
day.
On weightless clouds, in my dreams,
I lay peacefully listening to what my
heartbeats say,
Sometimes, they say, with no
restraints, you can do as you please.
And sometimes they say you’re
lucky to see dreams such as these.

Premium Member Run With Me My Love

Run with me, my love
hand and hand
through the meadow of our dreams
feel the wind upon our face
the sun's warmth on our skin

Let us find a secluded place
beneath the bending boughs
to search the eyes of love
until they become passionate kisses
feel the sound of our heartbeats
as we linger in the shaded realm
where our love is bound forever

Let us run
with the freedom of our souls
still wrapped in the glorious glow
of our love

Once we were young
and filled with a youthful passion
today, we are gray
and life is still a tender thing,
we hold in our palms
as is the bounty of beauty
that dwells within

Let us wave to this moment
and run as the young lovers
we once were
and welcome the rush of blood
that still flows in our hearts

Run with me, my love
until we lay with the flowers
and tumble in the soft grass
in this, the meadow of our dreams
where we made love, long ago

Premium Member Every day, my poems grow shorter

Every day, my poems grow shorter:
Little fires for the one who was lost in a strange land.
And I awaken from dreams drowned in twilight's light,
Seeking hidden roots in the fractured soil of memory,
Continuously dissolving in silence, in caress and burning agony,
Waiting for the light through the window to blend me.
On the edge of infinity, where stars murmur with shadows,
A river flows towards a valley without name, without end,
Each drop glittering with lost and recovered memories,
In it, I saw my childhood, my adolescence, the heartbeats.
Like a world raised from the mists of loss,
The rills of time steeped in the gold of the sunset,
I disintegrate into autumn leaves, always longing
For the embrace of the dusty north that held my dreams.
And in those moments of latent slumber,
Between night and healthy dawn,
An old longing grasps me, calls me
Like the silent herbarium, filled with vestigial loves.
The spaces within deepen full of moans,
When my eyes run over the bed stripped of soul,
Pieces of words and voices tumble through me,
Fragmented like the past autumn, like showers of sand.
Where are you, ancient honey, with wings of light?
Where are you, unsettled traveler of my soul?
In the sharp nails of night's thresholds,
I seek my ghost in a land of oblivion.
I consume myself in thoughts, in tireless waves,
The counsel of ancestors is mute, feverish,
And in every flame kindled by verses,
I seek that gaze, full of hunger, of shivers.
Oh, dried-up memory, deep well,
Sharks of illusions whirl through the cold veins,
And my perpetual thirst, unrelenting hunger,
Continue to stir the silence of unending time.
In the sounds of the old clock, in cracked mirrors,
I remain the poor poet, returned to the beginning,
The reason for my entry, my words shortened,
And the blinding puzzle on simple earth.

Princess of the Gun's Barrel

Rose petals crinkle between my fingers
Of the flowers the smallest man on Earth gifted
No person could seal the cracks in my heart's foundation
Well, until the day you glistened into my vision

Party back one August, seas of flesh enticed me
I did the waltz with a young man, springing with vitality
But the dark circles that guarded your eyes of hazel
Pulled me into your nation's tight borders

You were never afraid to welcome me
Arms swung open, the kingdom's gates
Wrapped with layers of deep crimson fabric
The grasp stole my breath quicker than anxiety did

You were convincing my father, quoting Socrates
Mouth flowing with a river of eloquence
Fingers brushed against my rose sequin dress
Wait, what's this warmness on my hand?

"The unexamined life is not worth living"
The words delivered cool like spearmint
Deep in my bosom, a feeling brewed
Heartbeats against my chest like stray bullets

Tato nodded his head, patting your head of dark curls
"Treat my daughter right, Stavros."
"Not my name. But I'll do it for her."
And with that, we hurried back into the room's center

Now, you're the gleaming rhinestones in my life
Beaming with wit and polished with a sugar-sweet kiss
I examine you under daylight's breath
Oh, my mirror, I can't believe you get to be mine

Pause of Plurality Interchange

Silence

night before dawn
dreams linger
feelings before words
feelings before poem
breath before breathe
silence between heartbeats
the pause before knowing

Dawn

the world turns its back
on the moon
the world turns to the sun
and time whispers live again
sunlight over horizon
a promise
but shadows cast
over the land

Synapse

in gaps between nerve cells
the message lies
and it must find its way
through the brain
the heart beats
before cognition

Loft

the lamp shines
in my office space
after I get out of bed
the soft feel of carpet
on bare feet
as thoughts wander
they always wander
before
story or poem

My Father

always count to ten
before anger
always think before speaking
now he lies in a grave
words unsaid

Love

when alone
a woman’s face
lingers
after we met
o the feeling
and at first
I don’t know
what to call it
yet

a quiet stream
whispers to darkness
somewhere rivers
run their fingers
through a forest

I’ve been there

Sometimes I like the feeling of not knowing

Poeming

at first
a spot of light
falls
on a blank page
a breath
feeling
then words
I don’t know
from where
they come
words dance
and shape lines
and stanzas
the words say
more than one thing
and the white spaces
the white spaces
the moments before a kiss
stolen on the front porch
