Pause of Plurality Interchange
Silence night before dawn dreams linger feelings before words feelings before poem breath before breathe silence between heartbeats the pause before knowing Dawn the world turns its back on the moon the world turns to the sun and time whispers live again sunlight over horizon a promise but shadows cast over the land Synapse in gaps between nerve cells the message lies and it must find its way through the brain the heart beats before cognition Loft the lamp shines in my office space after I get out of bed the soft feel of carpet on bare feet as thoughts wander they always wander before story or poem My Father always count to ten before anger always think before speaking now he lies in a grave words unsaid Love when alone a woman’s face lingers after we met o the feeling and at first I don’t know what to call it yet a quiet stream whispers to darkness somewhere rivers run their fingers through a forest I’ve been there Sometimes I like the feeling of not knowing Poeming at first a spot of light falls on a blank page a breath feeling then words I don’t know from where they come words dance and shape lines and stanzas the words say more than one thing and the white spaces the white spaces the moments before a kiss stolen on the front porch
