Are we a shining beacon of possibility to people everywhere?
Or are we doomed to float endlessly in the sea of our own contempt?
Who are we?
Are we the welcoming light of hope held up on high for all to see?
Or have we succumbed to the darkness of hatred and indifference?
Who are we?
Are we the champion that seeks to set the best example for the rest of the world?
Or have we resigned ourselves to accept the requiem of our national conscience?
Who are we?
Are we capable of finding the greatness within ourselves once again?
Or will we endlessly tumble into the unquieted abyss of our past glory?
Who are we?
Are we doomed to sit in quiet desperation contemplating what once was for eternity?
Or will we once again strive to make our greatness more than an empty slogan on a cap?
Who are we?
March 20 Scripture Meditations Based on 2Kings 14-17
Key Verse – 2Kings 14:10 Thou hast indeed smitten Edom, and thine heart hath lifted thee up: glory of this, and tarry at home: for why shouldest thou meddle to thy hurt, that thou shouldest fall, even thou, and Judah with thee?
MY GOD, THANK YOU FOR LIFTING ME UP
Thank You for lifting me up from sinful failure
After forgiving my heart, repentantly demure
While cleansing me with Your purging censure
Never pushing me toward the filthy and impure.
Thank You for lifting me up from guilty position
After receiving my acknowledgment of my corruption
While sanctifying me from deception
Never driving me toward idolatry and abomination.
Thank You for lifting me up from frustrated becoming
After awakening my soul from worldly dreaming
While alerting me against humanism’s harming
Never casting me toward vanity soaking and roaming.
Thank You for lifting me up from humiliating haughtiness
After seeking my mind midst rebelliousness
While reaching out to me in Your humility’s meekness
Never thrusting me toward pride and arrogance stiffness.
Thank You for lifting me up from selfish downfall
After disciplining my will to give my all
While imprisoning me within Your loving wall
Never shutting me toward self-glorifying and self-pitying hall.
Thank You for lifting me up from futile mediocrity
After teaching my spirit the need to learn for fruitful maturity
While instilling in me my part in biblical Christianity
Never guiding me toward uncertainty and insecurity.

'STRAND PICK G' Contest by Brian Strand
Marble crosses of faith
A solemn reminder
Of those who shared one goal
Freedoms fight for glory
Grief of nations, their toll
Marble crosses of faith
Buried soldiers, lay deep
Surrendering to death
To honor their belief
Fighting with their last breath
Marble crosses of faith
In depths deep with promise
Known and unknown they sleep
A duty, not in vain
A pledge they fought to keep
Marble crosses of faith
Reeling above the sea
A humble place of peace
Where headstones mark their graves
The price of war to cease

I come to you today
Not as your enemy
Not as a writer of his final entry
But as a center peace
A sender of those
whom mask in glory from their knees
We ask our father to take care of our friends
Our common casualties,
whom won’t embrace the end
We ask that you nourish their courage
Well flourished in urge
Bringing you everything
I’ve ever said or mentioned
Hands free, we hold no tension
Through all the chaos, the wrongs
The trials, the triumph,
may we all sing this song
The sweet melody we once rehearsed
A grace so amazing
September seemed to no longer be cursed
Don’t kill yourself world
For darkness will forever loom
The fortune in my doom
I am sorry
Love
Your
Angel
Of
Sadness
Step out
Walk on
Imagine distance
Courage in an instance
Circumstance through situation
Determination with participation
Sole together
Strong and sturdy in all leather
Shoes tell your story
Accomplishment with all its glory
The miles you left behind
Life that was kind
The times you tried to run
Those times weren’t all fun
That makes your soles different
The creation of significance
Identity of how you and soles weathered many storms
A when from then
Tomorrow turned into current
Soles on duty
Adventure through triumphant
Victory through honor
Soles on
Leather held up
Shoe in
Feet meander through their slow walks
on damp benches along the rotunda ...
an elderly pair grips the stem of their
parasol , inhaling the breath of dusky wisps,
as if the gray of their tresses
holds the seams of hours watching
this evening turn inky blue...
And when the fog releases tangy flavor,
the man closes his eyes with his palm...
and a single tear drips as night becomes
quiet-- in this instance, the wife points
to stars evanescing until they both
relish the glory of seasons owned
through decades crowning their long life.
MARCH 2017 PREMIER CONTEST: Brian Strand
Repost 3/17/2017
Among the lessons I have learned,
At the edge of blacktop,
Near bridges, some burned
I see the hesitant whisper of life
Warm hearts, so concerned
Knowing the pavement will end
One day soon, my soul will be returned
Returned to the Master, the One
Whose still writing my story
He’s the light, God’s only Son
Writing with ink from His own blood
He fought the devil without a gun
Whispered hope to the hurting
I hope to hear Him say, “Well done”
Well done, the words I long to hear
When I leave this troubled world
Reach my home where love is so sincere
Touch the hands who saved me
From the darkness and all my fear
Battled the sins that pursued
With love that will never disappear
Disappear from the heart who believes
His love is a rock, foundation of the free
He’s still writing, with blood that relieves
My heart and soul, saving me from me
Destroying the shadow who grieves
Inspiring my story to sing of God’s peace
He is the One who can save even thieves
Thieves hung on either side of Him
As He warred on the cross, my Savior
It looked so much like He’d lost, all was grim
Until that third day at the tomb
When He arose to prove, when it’s sink or swim
We have One who works wonders within
Within my heart, where I sometimes see
There is the promise from One I believe
He’s writing my story – He’s set me free
So I know, when those potholes come about
In the pavement of my soul, I bow my knee
And reach out to the hand that bore the nails
So that I might know Him who holds the key
Key to being better than I was, because I believe
In the One who writes my story,
with ink of pure blood, His gift I’ll receive
One who tells of glory, on streets paved in gold
Where the pavement, my soul will relieve
Because I’ve met the One who chose me
To walk the streets of gold, where I’ll never grieve
Pondering the pavement – gold as gold can be
Walking on that trail more beautiful than any dream
It is here in heaven, that I see
The wonders of everlasting, the song of belief
And I’ll never forget what He did for me
Its written on the pavement, each step breathed
My spirit on fire, for Him who set me free
Inside, I am the force of a radiant flow,
the energy by fuel in soft eternal glow.
I am the receiving embers sparked by you,
First, a stranger till the flames then grew.
Into a light shining at the touch of dawn,
By moonlight hue, to you my heart was drawn,
To a faraway Island so welcoming and warm,
First, I thought you wanted to do me harm.
Darkness charmed her weaving barren twirl,
With ancient spirit world clinging to my soul.
Voices come and go by the guardians of dreams,
In the winds of enchantment and illusions.
Then the morning glory overturn the gloom,
Like the heavenly rapture of mid-afternoon,
A romance with you in my happy journal wrote,
The passing of times had a special antidote.
With the lust, we dust though scarlet tinged,
And the thread of love began to come unhinged,
Rainy clouds arrived, and filled your eyes,
extinguishing bright hopes of twilight skies.
With the clones of night mute shadows fall,
and I had no strength to tear down the wall.
By midnight all the energy and light had fled
Leaving the warm ashes smouldering instead.
Beautiful and delicate scattered in the wind
A flurry of kisses nestled anew in my mind.
With pains that ache, all things held its peace,
Till the sting of loss found comfort release.
You almost left me dead, as the ashes scatter
and should your ghostly frame, again reappear,
I’ve vowed to surrender at length to the future
The pool of memories intrinsically left over.
We praise God for His granted salvation
That secured us from grievous penalty of transgression
As He paid the price through His precious blood for our redemption
With His love-caused sacrifice for our forgiveness and justification.
We praise God for His blessings daily
That He provides for us tremendously
As He assures us His eternal presence wondrously
With His protection always shielding us truly.
We praise God for His peace-filled contentment
That gives us ever-satisfying replenishment
As He comforts us against worldly entertainment
With His sanctification that heals our envy’s ailment.
We praise God for His zealous revival
That smites our discouragements in our earthly survival
As He empowers us to cling to Him for His approval
With His strength to prepare us for Christ’s arrival.
We praise God for His spiritual refreshing
That allows us to commune with Him in His nourishing
As He listens to our plight, answers our queries, never rushing
With His wisdom and counsel worth cherishing.
We praise God for His abounding blissfulness
That calms our weariness in labouring in His kingdom’s business
As He brings us triumph’s sweetness in fellowship’s closeness
With His blessings to our faithfulness through His kindness.
We praise God for His grace in our growth's history
That enables us to share and declare the Gospel of compassion’s glory
As He reaches out to the lost, freeing souls from sin-bondage misery
With His truth and mercy, promising everlasting life’s victory*.
*Psalm 98:1 O sing unto the LORD a new song; for he hath done marvellous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory.
