Stop a Minute
By Franklin Price
1/18/2018
Stop a minute every day
And drop down to one knee
Without the anthem playing
To give thanks that you are free
That you may worship as you please
That you are not a slave
That you may protect your home and self
And even rant and rave
That you're living in America
Can say and do most anythng
You may even say our president
Is a raving, tweeting, ding-a-ling
Just think about how much you know
With every day, a tweet or two,
Don't complain that you are unimformed
He's sending them to you
When he tweeks about the fake news,
Do you believe the news or him,
Does he interest you in finding out
Which of their wits are dim?
Are you for him or against him?
Do you want him in or out?
Does his tweeting keep you interested,
Or make you scream and shout?
While you're down upon that knee
Ask God to give us sight
Especially the tweeting president
So he'll lead us to the light
Pray for all the Congress
To find a solid middle ground
Or this country, as we know it,
Will no longer be around
We are the Government
By Franklin Price
6/9/2017
We the people are the government
It's not hard to understand
The House and Senate represent us
But we're the leaders of the band
When we watch them on the TV
Hear them on the radio
See them rant on social media
Calling each other so and so
Making asses of themselves
To put our country in a bind
We're looking bad collectively
And have lost our friggin' mind.
We must begin to make things right
We the people of this land
Rid ourselves of representatives
That don't care to understand
They're there to do our bidding
And are at our beck and call
Vote them out the next election
When they don't seem to care at all
For we the people are the government
We must participate
Replace misplaced in Washington
Before we find it is too late
Daffodils
By Franklin Price
03/06/2022
Yesterday I was returning
From my first ride of the year
As I came into the back yard
Blooms of daffodils appeared
Don't think that they were blooming
When I left to take the ride
They are my Barbara's favorites
I stopped then, and there I cried
The tears were ones of happiness
For they're also faves of mine
God had made them bloom from her
And I took that as a sign.
My Barb is up in Heaven
And she's watching over me
She's wanting me to carry on
To be the person I should be
The daffodils that were there blooming
Were sent by God, who wears the crown
Barb asked if He would send them
For she's in Glory looking down.
July the Fourth
By Franklin Price
7/1/2016
July the fourth we celebrate
The red, the white and blue
And all that this great country
Brings to the world and me and you
Our founding fathers pledged their lives
Their freedom did declare
July the fourth of seven-six
Just imagine you were there
No longer were they willing
To bow to England's rule
They signed the Declaration
With pen their lives did pool
To stand up to the power
That controlled their lives back then
To begin a revolution
They prayed to God that they would win
Seems we have forgotten
What it took to walk that line
To dedicate ourselves to principles
The declaration did define
Now would be a good time
To read what they declared
You should read it very closely
To see how we have fared
The parallels we're living
You may find a big surprise
To me it's very evident
Just have to open up your eyes
Need look at what has happened
Look what government has done
It might as well be England
We must resolve to end their fun
After all we are the people
Who allow the ones who rule
To complain yet to continue
Makes us collectively a fool.
Come Unto the Tabernacle
By Franklin Price
07/07/2023
Come unto the Tabernacle
Feel the love and see the light
Hear the preaching of the spirit
Through the pastor in our sight
Sing out songs of praises
Clap your hands and praise the Lord
Raise up your hands to Glory
And be all of one accord
Let the Spirit move within you
Keeping Satan's state at bay
That's why Jesus died for all us
On Golgotha's hill that day
All that's needed is acceptance
That He arose again to stay
In Spirit He is with us
And will never go away
In body He'll return again
From His home up in the sky
To take all believers with Him
To a place we'll never die
Our children
By Franklin Price
12/30/2015
Our children are our legacy
They are what we have raised
If they do well because of that
It is they who should be praised
We must give all we can to them
Not claim we did it all
For when they reach a certain point
It's for them to rise or fall
They either have the wherewithal
Or may fall a little short
It's theirs for them to do or not
The ball is in their court
Don't ruin being part of it
Trying to control just how they act
They're grown and they are on their own
With them you should make a pact
Support them every way you can
Not for any selfish need
Give because you love them
And help the tree grow from the seed
They'll always be your babies
But you have to let them go
Or you'll end up having nothing
From a child you don't even know
Poetic License
By Franklin Price
4/1/2015
I have poetic license
To write about all things
Beautiful or ugly
Sane or ding-a-ling
Family and friends
And what I've seen around
Politics Religion
All existing sky and ground
I tell it as I see it
Report it as my news
To be accepted or rejected
While expressing my own views
I'm not afraid to tell it
If it's something I believe
And send it out to others
To read and to receive
Not everyone will like it
I never thought they would
But if it gets them thinking
And reacting that is good
Not all writing gloom and doom
Write some of love and grace
Sometimes a little humor
To leave a smile on the reader's face
Thank You God for Guiding Me
By Franklin Price
05/18/2023
Thank you God for guiding me
Through all my years of life
Through good times and through sad times
Through happiness and strife
For the best of wives a man could have
I want to thank you Lord
Though you took her sixteen months ago
Her spirit's here for creeks I ford
In all your Godly wisdom
It was time for her to go
Because of Your son Jesus
She's in Heaven now, I know
She's looking down upon me
Yet her love is always here
Wherever life may take me
She's is with me, that is clear
She's here, to help You help me
As I travel life each day
Over fifty years was with me
As we moved along the way
She is gone but not forgotten
She's still deep inside of me
And You're still here for guidance
As sure as tides upon the sea
New friends to Find
By Franklin Price
8/25/2015
New friends to find are everywhere
With many things that you may share
They're on the street in cyber space
You can meet them any place
You never know when you may find
Someone who thinks with like of mind
Who listens well and speaks the same
You're really pleased to learn their name
You do not have to know them long
To know they're living right not wrong
Know right away you've found a friend
In your book of life one to append
When you depart this meeting place
Regret in leaving no disgrace
To hope again your paths will meet
And your old friend again to greet
Two Months
(Since you've been in Heaven)
By Franklin Price
03/18/2021
Dear Lord, today marks two months since my Barbara left this life
Since You, in love and kindness, took away her pain and strife
You waited 'til our daughter Dani, could be with us on that day
We held tightly to each other as you took Barb's soul away
Thank you Lord and Savior for the ultimate you gave
Your only son, upon the cross, for our sinful lives to save
Barb's with you up in Heaven for she believed that this is true
I'll join her when it's my time, for I do believe it too
Dani stayed with me 'til Sunday. The two of us, both laughed and cried.
We celebrated lives together, knowing Barb was by your side
Part of all our lives, is death. The ones left, then must progress
Dwelling on the dear departed, can make the left one's lives a mess
Alone and left with sorrow, thinking only, “woe is me”
I heard her voice from heaven, “It will be okay, you'll see”.
Facebook posts, and phone calls, E-mails, cards, more than a few.
The love was overwhelming, allowing life to start anew
God, you blessed me with my poetry to help me try to understand
Sent an old time friend to visit, to help me out and hold my hand
Last week I went to Florida to see my family and friends
All of them brought joy to me, For those I missed, I make amends.
I have more friends than I deserve. Time was through before I knew
I love you, though I did not see you. I know there's more than just a few.
God, I want to thank you for everything you've given me
For touching hands, down here on Earth, for my friends and family.
You safely brought a new life, to my down trod mourning scene
A Great grandchild to celebrate, and his given name is Dean
We're going out to see him when Barbara's birthday comes around
On the twenty-third of April, we will hear his first hand sound
You read right, I'm saying we, Barb is always in my heart
She'll see Dean through my own eyes, though she's seen him from the start
I know that she was looking down when he took a breath and cried
From Heaven she was watching, for she would not be denied
Although I'm still in mourning, it's with a forward facing smile
I know that's what Barb wants for me, for a frown's just not my style.
