The woke demand that we devenerate,
revise old statues, plaques and history
of leaders who were once considered great,
as truth confronts a lasting bigotry.
To laud and honor what they represent
supports and propagates a curse and weight,
creating new and growing discontent,
to abrogate old hails to racial hate.
Blind scales of justice failed to understand
and measure damage done by prejudice
across our bountiful dynamic land,
thus adding space to this profane abyss.
But now new rays of liberty are seen,
illuminating every sacred wound,
as politicians face what should have been
and steer us toward a higher, firmer ground.
Sitting on the edge
of a broken relationship
reflecting on the occasional
warmth of togetherness
and plenty of sad, feelings of being let down
jilted and miffed, I struggled to let go.
Faintly saw an invisible force
flickering inside, weakly trying to hold
the corners of my inner self
nudging me to forget the past
and move on bravely
for I had wished or done no harm ever to anyone,
what to talk of near ones.
Instead, it hinted me to be thankful
to the revealing events that
brought the naked truth to fore
that showed in clear light falseness,
pretentions of affection, friendship, love
that required burdensome formalities
to carry on a complex relationship
reaching to nowhere.
It nagged me to stop wasting my precious
time, energy, thoughts and love
hoping against hope that maybe
things would be alright, soon
and chasing the bygone memories
which have pained and hurt
and tended to make me feel weak.
It also implored me to seek
simple, firmer, newer relationship,
where affection flowed freely and openly
to and fro, without causing feeling of guilt
to be confident of the goodness within oneself
and see it blossom and flower
bringing smiles and cheer
in the lives of others and self.
A recognition of self-respect took roots
somewhere down inside
and the faint ray of hope sprouted
freshness in my heart and mind
I madly clung on to the sane inner voice
and shedding the fear of
what others would think of me
I walked back to life
with a spring in my feet, forever.

I'll walk the shoreline with you,
look behind to see, two footprints in the sand
washed away by the incoming tides,
salted air and sea foam breezes
rush a chill upon the stetched out land
looking out upon the ocean from safe land;
here lay quiet and still renewed,
buried deep within the marriage bands
all the secrets that we hide,
cast deep and burrowed yet finally eases
those memories we held within our hands
where time and love linked firmer hands;
walk a little further in the evening hues,
let dusk set the sun light where we stand
bond us together in the sea where life abides,
stand brave and bold beneath as life seizes
the light house and the harbor grand
bow to the lives we live well planned.
What do you want me to write?
I think I will write about faith
What is faith?
Is it something you can see
can grab, can hang onto?
Yes, yes, and yes
You can see in someone though not visually, with your spirit eyes
You can feel in someone though not spoken
You can attach and reattach
You can detach and be attacked
Either way it works for you and not against you
It lifts you out of the bound and sets you on a firmer ground
It heals your senses, body, and anything it touches
It removes doubt, fear, oppression, and things not called for
It calls into being what is not spoken
It determines our fate through words that are spoken
It affirms our senses, values, ownership through its grandeur
It moves mountains, blockage, obstruction
It brings one to one's knees in a moment of desperation, brokenness
It catapults one to one's spiritual height
It remains with one through one's deepest sorrows
What can it do?
It can do a lot
Whatever one wants it to do, it will do
Because He will do
Because faith is God
And God is faith
Can't separate one from another
God meant for us to have faith
And have faith plenty
Have faith in everything
Because "faith is the assurance of things hoped for
the conviction of things not seen" (Hebrews 11-1)
"And without faith, it is impossible to please God" (Hebrews 11:6)
"For we walk by faith, not by sight" (2 Corinthians 5:7)
Because we need to "fight the good fight of faith" (1 Timothy 6:12)
Because faith is a gift
"The Fresh Blooding of a Sexton Grin"
Guns ...
are for p*ssies
you know, short for
pussilanimous plural
Words …
are sharper
more cutting
more lethal
clean
concise
quill slicing the lucid flow
you can taste the blood
as you turn them
twist them further in
with valour
war cry bitten
you drive them deeper in
you unsheathe love
as a hard win,
victorious, won
ink blooms
potent power from
your stellar wounds
darkened roads
shining home
lux vitae dei vox
Home ...
morning star
quod scripsi scripsi
turns the light on
to birth puissant
in the majestic
seat of third eye
commanding
the truest titulus
initials glowing
arriving on cloudy tomes
perilously igniting
new fiery caims
swallowing
ouroboros tales
hear the battle cry
you were built
to withstand the fall
to more mighty again rise
the gauntlet
now well
and truly thrown
something
more darkly formidable
than shady insult sown
sink your new teeth in
fresh biting warrior
I christen you Boadicea
blood cup possessed
razor mind in you conjuring
the tongues of hearts to speak
there is no escape
for in you, I am and
I will always live
crucifying
all the wasting yesterdays
with fresh blooded promissory notes
staking claims of assurance
in the terror firmer
here to stay
sharpening
words taken
from a stone
n'ere a flowery
verbose drip
wasted
salting
the new cuts
to feel something vital
smiling within
fresh blooding
the Sexton grin

When We Met and Fell in Love
(half a century ago)
By Franklin Price
03/02/2022
When we met so long ago, another time, another place.
I felt a pull, a need for you, when I looked upon your face.
We both had love to give someone, who would be with us for life
Never thought, when I first met you, that you'd ever be my wife
You were married to another in that other place and time
He cheated and he used you, all of us were in our prime.
I had just returned from Vietnam, where I received a “Dear John” letter
My first wife, while I was there, had found another who was better.
We had met, when in high school, through her mom, I knew at work
She was a year behind me, that we met was just a quirk.
I was a Senior, she a Junior. At school, she was unknown to me.
Had I not wanted extra money, this tale I tell would never be.
One thing led to another, in those days back in the past
In a short time we would marry, as you can see, it did not last.
We were divorced before I got home, from that war across the sea
I separated from the service. I was alone, was only me.
I got a job at KSC; Man would soon walk on the moon.
One giant step for mankind ; I would take another soon.
In the midst of all this hub bub, you separated from your mate
I did my best to comfort you. I once again was tempting fate.
Our lives were intermingled by the histories we had
The relationships we'd gone through, sometimes good, but mostly bad.
We felt a bond between us, and when your own divorce was done,
I asked you if you'd marry me; you said yes, I'll be the one.
We took our vows, said our I do's, we meant them from the heart
Said we'd always be together, until death, then we would part.
That time is now upon us, more than fifty years have passed
You are gone, and I'm still here, our love forevermore will last.
Our marriage was our destiny. God said it was to be
I gave you all the love I had, and you gave your love me
I know I need to travel on, need to move on down the road
I must think of how to do it, don't want to go in overload.
We did everything together until you breathed your very last
Now I must go on alone, don't want to move along too fast
Friends and family are here for me, want me to visit, come around
I still need to wait awhile, until I am on firmer ground.
I’m no one, she thinks and smiles
to herself – imagining
when the world looks at her
they see gray hair and wrinkles,
sagging skin and dentures
those little things that remember
she has turned the corner on her fifties
soon she’ll be in her sixties…
dear heart, where has the time gone?
it was only yesterday
or a few years back, in the past
her skin was firmer
she didn’t wear dentures
or glasses to see better
she was graced with dark hair
with highlights from the sun
wore her pink bikini
remember, she was so young
oh, so young…
where has the time gone?
I’m no one special, she thinks to herself
even the night can see
beneath the shadows of my soul
there lives a woman,
beyond words, beyond hopes
she saw the truth of her youth
left on the side of a moment
where dying remembers
there are things that matter more
than gray hair and glasses,
dentures and flippant thoughts.
There is the moment when I see Him
His light, His grace, His love
pouring out hope through my soul
when the time comes
when the dying is done
will He lead me home?
Oh, Jesus… hold onto my soul
Jesus, never let me go
I’m a believer and that is enough
to remind me
despite the darkness of death
I will know a light that breathes praise…
There is more than this world
There is hope that opens the heart
Opens the door…
to everlasting peace, love that sings
throughout eternity
on the winds of His perfect will
on the light that can surely fill
on the joy that makes my soul still…
in Him, I find myself
the answer to this unending quest
for a love that never ends
a love that will surely prevent me
from remembering my fears,
the shadows of those long ago years,
before I knew the love
that comes to color the soul
of those who know the One
who brings life to those who know Him,
the ONE who is alive
throughout all time…
His name is Jesus Christ
and without Him, I’d never survive
the darkness that so often decides
I’m unworthy of this joy inside
I’m not worth what He did on the cross
but, I’m so thankful that all is not lost
because He gave His life, despite the cost
And He arose to assure hearts who believe
that He has saved them from
an eternity without His amazing love!
Across the table they held their gaze, his eyes knew where they belonged
No music was playing in the room, yet they heard their lover's song
He held her hand a little firmer, gave a smile, let slip a tear
The moment was approaching that for year's the two had feared
Her love for him never faltered, her fidelity was pure
Something he had never felt to question, of that he was always sure
Across her heart in ink, she had the signature of his name
And in return with her own name, he had done the same
She asked if he still remembered how this love long ago began
Baby he responded, never forget who is you're man
Close you're mind to our surroundings, to the people who stand around
Focus my Queen upon me, on this perfect love we found
I'm sorry she told him shakily, I failed you in the end
No my girl he answered her, you were my only friend
It's almost time for me to go, tomorrow the morn rises without my life
My one regret my precious girl, you never became my wife
His tears fell more forcefully, yet he tried to keep composure
His strength was the last and final gift, the one thing he could leave her
Look upon the stars tonight, see past the moon so blue
The veil of death shall be lifted, that I may gaze down upon you
The Officer's called time, the visit now was done
The two lover's who had fought so hard, in hours' become just one
She kissed him as her teardrops fell and merged with his
The last time she would see him, but he had a final wish
He grabbed her wrist urgently and asked please remember me
In the light, in the dark, walk beside of me
Always I'll remember, and to the sky at night I'll wait
May the heaven grant us leniency, that God let's me see your face
"Listen More"
(Verse1)
Imma tell you this
Tell you that (tell you that)
No i told you so
Or a matter of facts
Did you stop saying things
Because how people react(react)
That spark in my talk
Sure enough glistens (glistens)
Would it have stood any firmer
If i would've just listened
Has it expired
Not giving out no more extensions
I could lose it now
Or gain it all
If i would've listen
I wouldn't have Missed my call(calling)
Cant continue to keep falling
Wisdom is not a chore
Am i out of it because i didn't listen more
(Chorus)
Listen more(Listen)
Should've paid more attention
My head was hard
Life dealt the cards
Was it the wrong hand
Gotta get it together had to take a stand
So i can fulfill my purpose and plan
Don't want to seem like im tore
Thats what happen when you don't listen any more
(Verse 2)
Your not to old (old)
To be told
Listen please
You can learn more
Revision is a decision
Have i admitted to my wrong
Or am i steady living
Letting life pass me by
Getting stuck i wonder why
Is it because i heard a voice
Didn't act on it because i had a choice
But did i listen
Or did i keep hinting
That i was capable of repenting
My life has much in store
Gotta stop looking for it in self
And look to the heavens and say (Lord i need your help)
(Chorus)
Listen more(Listen)
Should've paid more attention
My head was hard
Life dealt the cards
Was it the wrong hand
Gotta get it together had to take a stand
So i can fulfill my purpose and plan
Don't want to seem like im tore
Thats what happen when you don't listen any more
Bridge: I HEARD A DOOR
WAS GOING TO OPEN
HAD TO GET IT TOGETHER (HAD TO FOCUS)
I am already one of the chosen
Don't want to freeze or remain frozen
I want to reach beyond the sky
Hold up my head when i want to cry
Even when times get hard
Ill meditate and say thank you Lord
Im ready to receive what's in store
Thats what happen when you listen more
(Chorus)
Listen more(Listen)
Should've paid more attention
My head was hard
Life dealt the cards
Was it the wrong hand
Gotta get it together had to take a stand
So i can fulfill my purpose and plan
Don't want to seem like im tore
Thats what happen when you don't listen any more
Repeat until chorus fades

A pregnant bulge
with an angular stretch and twist,
something firmer than a sandwich.
A dirty diaper?
Bundles of illicit dollar?
I once found a dead parakeet
wrapped in a discarded paper bag,
when I dropped it in disgust
its head lolled out,
one dull eye fixed upon
the space I had just left.
The paper is mottled
by damp roaming winds,
stained as if hands had clutched it
too long.
It's not time yet to be a scavenger,
but in a few moments
I might nudge the bag with
a hesitent toe.
Or I might return later,
sneak under the low clouds,
that often gather
when something too big
to be left behind –
is left behind.
