The Fresh Blooding of a Sexton Grin

"The Fresh Blooding of a Sexton Grin"

Guns ...

are for p*ssies
you know, short for
pussilanimous plural

Words …

are sharper
more cutting
more lethal

clean
concise
quill slicing the lucid flow

you can taste the blood
as you turn them
twist them further in

with valour
war cry bitten
you drive them deeper in

you unsheathe love
as a hard win,
victorious, won

ink blooms
potent power from
your stellar wounds

darkened roads
shining home
lux vitae dei vox

Home ...

morning star
quod scripsi scripsi
turns the light on

to birth puissant
in the majestic
seat of third eye

commanding
the truest titulus
initials glowing

arriving on cloudy tomes
perilously igniting
new fiery caims

swallowing
ouroboros tales
hear the battle cry

you were built
to withstand the fall
to more mighty again rise

the gauntlet
now well
and truly thrown

something
more darkly formidable
than shady insult sown

sink your new teeth in
fresh biting warrior
I christen you Boadicea

blood cup possessed
razor mind in you conjuring
the tongues of hearts to speak

there is no escape
for in you, I am and
I will always live

crucifying
all the wasting yesterdays
with fresh blooded promissory notes

staking claims of assurance
in the terror firmer
here to stay

sharpening
words taken
from a stone

n'ere a flowery
verbose drip
wasted

salting
the new cuts
to feel something vital

smiling within
fresh blooding
the Sexton grin

True. We read and it stirs in our hearts and minds thoughts that pertain to our own life, our own existence. The blood, the kinship in humanity sets us all fighting in life against the end. Should we find and embrace love and light we are better armed to wage battle and find joy while in this ever growing darker, darkened realm. God bless...

Truly exceptional power and so very finely woven these verses that stimulate the mind, stir the heart and speak to humanity and its existence. Be strong, see truth and fight when necessary. As this world seeks to devour all. This one is an exceptionally fine fav. The power in it so truly awesome.. God bless..

Thank you Lindley. This poem is coming from many different directions and has many meanings. It can be interpreted in many different ways. The reader will make of it what they will. Of that I am certain.

Underlying all messages within the poem, the true message is about power. The power of the word, and the “Strength” within self and within the reader. Poets are sometimes viewed as depressive, angst ridden individuals, susceptible to strong addictions, who may consider themselves highly empathetic, but many consider ‘too’ sensitive, and even crazed or insane; with specific reference to poets and other 'creatives' - many were and are over-tuned with too much in the experiences that dent their armour with their march through "this" Life;

one just needs to revist the great poets, to understand that many - whether it be seen as a strength of courage, or indeed an act of weakness, caved in and left it all behind to the reader to see such acts as self-indulgent, self-pitying and an easy escape route. What many poets have within them, which is to be perpetuated is “Strength” of character to tell their truth and to thrust their message into the heart of their readers. This will be achieved in many styles and formats, most of this type of delivery by poet (add in musician, artist) will be done in an abstract manner through imagery and symbolism, metaphors and analogies. Their experiences veiled, but open to concise interpretation by other individuals who 'get' it. Usually they are writing for themselves though to make sense of it all, perhaps to deliver messages to those they love.

It is all well and good for one to write about fairies, unicorns, rainbows and bluebirds for children, but what children require is to understand that the strength and truth that resides deep inside themselves, is real, it does exist and it comes from a place of self-love (esteem and confidence within). Self-love comes from a place commencing usually in childhood and relationships within the family unit that are ‘loving’ and ‘nurturing’. Some children never experience that, or it falls through the cracks in their parent’s lives. It usually comes from a place commencing in childhood, but can be lost in adulthood (even if the adult as a child, experienced a loving and supportive home environment).

For many children though, who experience from an early or formative age, the terrible and darker downside of life, where there are no healthy boundaries, or there is violence, or hardship of some form or another, can and will escape through creativity (imagination) to deal with the truth of their reality. The strength within an individual, can be harnessed and ridden into the battles they will inevitably face in this life, through many ways. "Guns" are not the answer - what I am alluding to, is that some react to their circumstances later in life, through crime, and other nefarious and darker addictions.

However, through darkness, many experience their Light. Some can retrieve the way they continue on in life, to a place of 'good', I won't say 'normal', because 'normal' does not exist - but a place of 'good' / 'light', even if they have fallen and find themselves in a place of cold isolation and are ostracized by their community. This poem is about the strength to understand, that perhaps “strength” is generational more so than other maladies (eg depression). And if a child were to inherit any trait from their parent to survive in this life, through “love” … “strength” of character and strength within themselves, to respect themselves, is the singular most paramount inherited gift to know one has within oneself to pull through any battle. Of course, some children/adults may never know this, therefore we poets, must write with strength and conviction about victory over dark and it will strike a chord somewhere, where it is needed. Humour is a genuine gift of strength as well.

Of course, many will say “I Am” /God/Source, is the other power that has much strength through faith and belief to conquer darkness in battle. “I Am” can also refer to self. That “I Am” is the one a person must have much belief and faith in - the one within themselves - their 'Self', some may even suggest their 'Higher Self'. Within the creative mind, particularly of poets, is a very potent strength to conquer black dogs, devils and all that live in those lower vibrationing realms of their psyche. Battles will be lost, but the true warrior gets back up, and never gives in...unless one is flogging a dead horse. I would rather raise a horse from the dead and ride it into victory. Always. Happy New Year to you and yours Lindley. Xx
