Premium Member Who's a Loser

Mr Webster's definition of loser
A consistent failure abuser
Turkey that has no wings
Sunkist lemon of a human being

I say Ol' Daniel's wrong
Ain't nobody that far gone
They're bound to have some use
If nothing else, squeeze them for juice

No wings on a turkey, big deal
Who wants wings for a Thanksgiving meal
A wingless bird would be unique
He doesn't say a loser's a freak

So a person has a few bad breaks
Always whines and bellyaches
Makes everyone else a little edgy
Social bothersome , tighty-whitey, wedgie

He may be down on his luck
But a loser, come on, that sucks
That is unless you're in this poetry contest
Then you'll be a loser, if yours ain't the best

I Never Made It Across

I never made it across

There are cracks in the pavement everywhere I walk.
The road goes up and down and up.
I don’t have the strength to continue to talk.
Neither do I have the will to be strong enough.

I am loves survivor, walking alone,
Staring at people that I just don’t know.
They see a man who is down on his luck.
I see my reflection and I don’t want to look.

I didn’t used to be this broken,
But love breaks the heart into a thousand pieces.
I no longer think of words never spoken,
Because all that would cause is misery.

I wander along, wondering about…
No direction, no compass, no hope.
I live alone, with no way out,
Of this Hell I call life…The only life that I know.

Premium Member Shirley Met Her True Love

Shirley met Chace, her true love on social media; he was wonderfully attentive.
She called him, and spoke to him, and he said he was down on his luck.
Could she please pick him up? She was glad to do it, and he paid her so much attention.
She had never been this admired and complimented, and it made her feel special.

She moved Chace into her mother’s basement, but let him know he should keep quiet.
So he did, because he did not want to ruin their love. He was not discovered for a week or two.
Shirley’s mother was pretty upset when she discovered this unknown male living in her basement.
She asked about his job, he had done some work for people, but they never paid him. He was broke.

If it was not bad enough that Chace was down on his luck, he was now being picked on by Shirley’s mother.
Shirley was furious. She said they were moving and she did, in a big frenzy. She did not take her
dog, because Chace said the dog would cost too much to feed.
Shirley had to quit her job after a while because she was so busy taking care of him.
Pretty soon he was driving her car.

The smitten lovers shared Shirley’s bank account until the money ran out. In an act of chivalry, Chace contacted his mother, and she sent him a check, but it had to put it into Shirley’s name because for some strange reason, he could not cash a check.
The last time Shirley’s mother saw Shirley her car was all dented up, apparently Chace
had driven it, and brought it back that way. Naturally, Shirley forgave him.
A police detective contacted Shirley’s mother today, asking about Shirley, because her car was
In a hit and run a few months ago. No one knows where the lovers are, but we know that Shirley is with her true love.

Crazy Harry's Dance, Part I

In a town in southern Ohio
Lived a man called Crazy Harry.
A weathered, old soul, all alone
To children he appeared scary.
He had had a habit every midnight
No matter the happenstance,
He climbed a hill behind his home
And Crazy Harry danced.

No one knew why he went up there,
But they didn’t care too much.
They passed it off as antics of
And old man down on his luck.
But one day a girl named Sharon
A hairdresser, wife, and mom,
Decided she would learn the truth
Of what was going on.

She started asking ‘round the town
To learn of poor Harry’s part
He once was called plain Harrison,
And taught high school shop class.
She learned that he was married once,
To one Helen Mildred Long,
A woman who has blessed his life,
Who he would never wrong.

But the world can b a brutal place
An endless veil of tears,
A cancer took Harry’s young wife,
Before they’d made three years.
Harry, they say, went mad a this
And refused to leave his house.
For six whole months he cried and raved
For the loss of his poor spouse.

When he emerged he rarely talked,
Of peace he had been robbed.
He left the school and shoveled dirt,
From the streets, his only job.
And not long after all of this,
The older fold did sadly tell,
Was the first time he made the climb,
And danced up on that hill....

Premium Member A Gambler's Family

It is the end of the week, and another payday.
The man ignores responsibilities and the bills he must pay.
A trip to the casino is what this gambler will choose.
More than likely, again he will lose.
He prefers to stay inside where it is not sunny.
Riding on long-shot bets will be his money.
The probability is this bettor will be down on his luck.
He will blow his bankroll and not give a ****.

The man decides to leave early in the morning.
He disregards each family member’s warning.
Once more, he displays his temper without any class.
After hitting the wall, he says; “Shove it up your ***!”

There is one certain thing while he is alive.
This loser will go and gamble despite the long drive.
After dropping all of his own hard-earned money,
he will go and steal from his family.
Ones who care for him he treats like small change.
He believes his behavior is something not strange.
On another casino trip, the money is blown away.
He says, “Don’t worry; I’ll get it back some day.”

Blaze

I had the nicest rooster,
An Orpington named Blaze.
He was around for several years
Until a fox ended his days.

His feathers were burnt orange,
A handsome shade of buff.
A pair of deadly spurs
Made him majestic, fierce,and tough.

A regal disposition,
Amiable for the most.
(Though my mom and younger siblings
Would not usually go to close)

Several years he ruled sovereign,
Though his rivals were not few.
Foes like Caesar,Kristoff,and Caspian,
Were amongst the fowl he knew.

Despite the opposition
(Like Kristoff,Terror of men),
Blaze controlled the throne,
And the guardianship of the hens.

But eventually Blaze was challenged
By Vinnie,the upstart cluck.
Blaze was beaten and chased off,
Suddenly down on his luck.

Forced to go into hiding,
Blaze was in very rough shape.
Between age, and his recent defeat,
He needed time to recuperate.

Then one day,an evil fox
Attacked Blaze in his weakened state.
Though not immediately killing him,
The event sealed Blaze's fate.

Sustaining grievous wounds
He lived for a few more days.
Eventually Death caught up,
And that was the end of Blaze.

Somberly I carried him
To his final resting place-
Deep within the forest,
Where I buried him sound and safe.

"Goodbye,Blaze",I murmured,
As I layed him down to rest.
Sorrowfully I left him,
A heaviness in my chest.

I will dearly miss him,
And be thankful for all the days
We had,when he was with us;
I'll miss you,my rooster Blaze.

Blat , Blat
Sporadic gunfire firing back

Since progress decided to shut down the mine

His Father before him was an Old Fashioned Cowboy
Driving Herds of Cattle across the wild plains
Powered by Bourbon and Bean's
Rancid and saddle sore
So too 1 day did progress for him come a calling
Putting an end to his self worth and way of life
And with it his family taken on his journey into Alcoholism
A violent man he became

The Silence is deafening
It's like the sound of a knife falling in an gunfight

Premium Member Cardboard Boxes

Discarded in yesterdays trash
Cardboard boxes never last
New things arrive in them
Old things stored in them
Rotting boxes on a voyage
Leftovers to those with out any coinage

Tom O’Seary had come down on his luck
Just couldn’t seem to make a buck
An elder at church who snuck a shot in a lurch
Now he sleeps in the rain
Cardboard box umbrellas
His home and his pain

One cold winter day
Poor old tom was dead where he lay
Inside his cardboard box
Was his last writings and will and the lot

I, Tom O’Seary of no determined address
I write these words, for they are my last will I confess
I regret all the pompous ways I was an ass
I missed the meaning of the messages, thus I was crass

Now you will lay me below the green grass
I thought I’d be looking down from heavens gates of glass
I was wrong about that too, so wrong
I am just rotting here in the green green grass

My purpose in life may not have been clear
The irony of death is now I know what’s so dear
Live this life with kindness and love
Or else on your grave will be the droppings of white doves
