Is there anything finer
Than that first cup of coffee?
It's better than sex by a mile
It lifts up your spirits
Sets the tone for the day
And forces the biggest of smiles
People will wonder
What you have up your sleeve
They'll think you won at the track
Unknown to them
Is the fact you don't gamble
And you're not into heroine or crack
Now a hot cup of joe
Is addictive they say
But think of the lives that it saves
It cuts down on suicides
And domestic abuse
That sends young folks to their graves
It's a small price to pay
Makes sure you're on board
It keeps those Colombians employed
Instead of drug runners
They're coffee bean hustlers
As a bonus their economy's buoyed
So next time you visit
A Starbuck's or such
Remember it's more precious than gold
For keeping us sane
Our eyes on the prize
Puts a stop to our brains getting old

My best guess is that it was some 20 years ago that
the number 100 represented years I wanted to live.
This was my request to The Lord, adding that I would
like to revisit the matter then to see if I wanted to
live beyond 100. It was a prayer of simplicity without
conditions, declarations, decrees, or qualifications.
It was all about longevity, legacy, serving God and
humanity. At that point, the matter was closed.
A few years ago, as I was sharing my longevity dream
with a friend, he countered with the fact that he'd
rather not live that long. For Bob, about 85 years
would suffice.
So, I concluded that I needed to revisit The Lord with
an amendment granting me 'a healthy 100 years'. Having
included that caveat, I then felt much better about 100.
I must say that my friend's comment about being both
aged and healthy was a sobering one of which I took
serious note.
When I look across the horizon of our shattered world
and the challenges to be faced, issues personal, foreign,
and domestic that refuse to be silenced, there is a toss
and turn in my spirit. Although inconclusive with second
thoughts, I'm still inclined toward a climb to 100.

Domestic assault is a pattern, an omen,
Condoned with a pre thought out phrase,
From the predictable man with predictable words,
Excusing his fist that was raised.
For others to hear:
“It only happened once,
Baby, I love you, it won’t happen again,
You don’t know the whole story,
She’ll tell you you’ve got it wrong,”
But he’ll blame her:
“Why did you make me so angry,
Why didn’t you just listen,
Why did you make me do that,
Why did you interrupt me,”
Then he plays the victim:
“It hurts me that you made me do that,
Couldn’t you see I was doing something,
I told you to leave me alone, you ignored me,
All I wanted was time to myself,”
Ending with threats:
“You’re lucky you didn’t make me more angry,
I could have really hurt you,
Don’t do it again baby, or I’ll give you worse,
You deserve everything I give you.”
Say no, walk away, start again.

NOTE::THIS IS AN OPEN(organic) FORM VERSE using spaces&breaks without grammatical symbols ,the ' open' relies upon 'the one breath limitation' (intuitive cadence)& so inherently requires the 'reader' (reciter) to input and responds thus making this enigmatic form a two way interplay & interpretatIon unique to the moment& changing according to mood is inherently variable.
“In situations of captivity the perpetrator becomes the most powerful person in the life of the victim, and the psychology of the victim is shaped by the actions and beliefs of the perpetrator.”
? Judith Lewis Herman, Trauma and Recovery: The Aftermath of Violence - From Domestic Abuse to Political Terror
Egotists are an enemy to an empathetic butterfly.
When your life functions like a cognitive chrysalis,
narcissistic spiders silently creep and crawl,
sucking at the sanity of your fractured cocoon,
wrapping their beastly venomous black legs,
around a trapped heart, weaving their conceited web.
This mutating sanctuary is a double edged sword.
Even when the door to your cage is open,
idle wings remain motionless - reluctant to fly.
When the pupal mind is frozen at a larval stage,
caught between the confusion of love and hate,
conscience speculates over being a victim or a villain.
Thoughts linger in constant conflict with subdued soul,
torturing the heart, so incarcerated wings remain stagnant.
Afraid of avian predators - too anxious to escape their tormentor,
you become a willing martyr, sympathising with the abuser.
The pain may be palpable, but their atrocities are forgiven,
so you remain stranded from their manipulative deceit.
Forming an emotional bond in a savage cycle.
We must never forget that
we're human beings, above all.
We're God's children, all equal in his eyes.
We need to treat each other
with the utmost respect and dignity.
We need to learn how to peacefully co-exist.
Notwithstanding our deity of worship -
Whether you call God just that, God,
or Allah, or El-Shaddai, or Bhagwan.
Notwithstanding the language
we speak, or the accent
of our speech, domestic or foreign.
Notwithstanding our politics -
Democrat, Republican, or Independent,
or even party-free.
Notwithstanding our race -
White, Black, Hispanic, Asian; whether you
check "Other" on application forms.
Notwithstanding our religion -
Catholicism, Judaism, Hinduism, Mormonism,
Buddhism, Islam, and so on.
Notwithstanding our culture,
belief system, financial status, sexual orientation,
or how we dress. Whether we're believer or atheist.
Notwithstanding the side
of the railroad track we hail from...
We must never forget that
we're human beings, above all.
We're God's children, all equal in his eyes
We need to treat each other
with the utmost respect and dignity.
We need to learn how to peacefully co-exist.
In the final analysis, we are all equal!

"The Author of the Lie"
by: Eric L. Boddie
It's amazing how many large altercations result from confrontations which are small
All because he whispered in your ear that you can blame it on the alcohol
Usually his approach is subtle, making it far more devious than the rest
Because he always attacks at the weakest point, better known as the flesh
He will use fast women to try to distract you from your wife
He will use greed to try to distract you from your Life
He will use false love to justify domestic violence
He will use the conflict of confusion to disrupt any peaceful silence
He is cunning and conniving, like no other ever known to this Earth
He promises fortune and fame, happiness and Love, but empty dreams are all they are worth
He offers temptations which are so very hard to resist
Then he hides the consequence by telling us he doesn't exist
He clouds the weakest minds with drugs and destroys necessities with desire
He attempts to weaken your Spirit by takaing your focus off the only Power Higher
He dwells in corruption, as the greatest enemy, he will debate
But all he can use is influence, sin is a deed only we can perpetrate
And his influence can have no power if I simply choose to deny
Only I can be my enemy because it's always my choice, please don't believe the lie
There's a man who I call DeSatan
From Florida to Sunshine State
who said that slavery for Black folks in America
was beneficial and great.
they were taught skills on how to be
better productive slaves
and those beatings, rapes and lynchings
was simply how white folks behave
no need for us to get bent out of shape
we just need to realize
to that to have been a slave in America
was considered an enormous prize
and to add insult to injury.
we have a few token Blacks
who co-signed that bull
as some historical fact
DeSatan in my opinion,
is simply a Nazi fascist prick
who tends to overcompensate
as he probably has a little dick
an angry and bitter man
who on divisiveness firmly stands
to go pick a fight with the Disney corporation,
your state's largest employer is beyond dumb
and if the company vacates your state,
where will all that lost revenue now come from?
slavery was an abomination
America's most heinous sin
and if we don't stay diligent,
they may try to revive it all over again
white nationalist, domestic terrorists
and the MAGA Supreme
will try to tell you that slavery
wasn't what it seemed
generational chattel
never an opportunity to be free
born into captivity, no chance of liberty
degraded, debased and worked
like the lowliest of dogs
hell, they had more respect
for their cattle, horses, pigs and hogs
slaves were caned, whipped and mutilated
for the smallest offense
Yet the slave owners never showed any empathy,
no consideration and no penitence
slaves were viewed as 3/5 of a human being
who only deserve endless and senseless beatings
I can't imagine nor see any benefit in all of that
and for anyone to say otherwise. It's just bull crap
slavery wasn't slavery.
It was involuntary relocation
a training program to teach African Americans.
a viable vocation
slavery wasn't slavery
it was an inconvenience ideology
a social experiment that white folk in America
don't believe warrants an apology
it was what it was and Black folks need to let it go
as slavery wasn't slavery because white folks say so
She had a lump
In her throat
Voice choked
As if
Someone had
Drained her life
Out
He could feel
Her recent ordeal
Listening intently
Face turning crimson
Heart beating fast
As if
Someone had
Drained his life
Out
So many similarities
So much love
Unlike yesterday night
With its
So many dissimilarities
So much ‘lust'
With he bent on
'I must'
Legal backing
Calling it
Domestic rape
Naturally then
Affinities and likes
Pegged elsewhere
With comforting words
And all his care
The only bright spots
In her failed relationship
His only concern
‘Hope she realises it
And doesn’t make
The cardinal error
Of taking his
'So near, yet so far presence'
For granted
Thus, unwittingly failing
Another relationship
Because, after all,
True love is
A committed, silent progress
Not a game of chess
To be lost or won
Going back to square one
