IDEALISM
Liberal, Modest, Noble, Open Personality
deserves reverence and adoration,
simultaneous admiration
to be followed by every soul.
Dishonesty, Envy, Falsehood, Greed, Hate
to control, to kill or to drive out.
Revenge in mind, never to sprout.
Peace of human should be the goal.
Abolish Betrayal! Crookedness: Do Explode.
For conspiracy to confront
in social or domestic front
stand straight as stable-rooted bole.
Respect Strong Truth, Universal Values
of morality on journey of life,
whether at ease or at strife.
In drama of life play courageous role.

First Place
Alpha Lines Contest by Joseph May
Memories of future events
Recollections of measures ahead
Reminiscence in fast forward
Aspirations leaping back
Projections of past reckoning
Icebergs frozen in conscience
Consciousness without borders
Recollective molten amnesia
Advanced reality looms precariously in forgone loops of oblivion
Renounced surrender pleads for reprieve in courageous defeat
A clairvoyant seeks to make sense of tea leaves still drowned
The backstage raven cusps darkened hope where none is left
Futuristic amnesia on the run is looking onto sunken imprints
Dragged feet are pegged to a ragged core of stuttering insanity
Wild wings roar raging on collision courses with roots’ firm recall
Yet the fool seeks wisdom if only for reruns of nascent madness
The black bird is caught in a trap of concerted voices in aphasia
A torn music sheet drifts down an abyss behind closed curtains
But the clouded clown’s mind refuses time's penultimate applause
Claps his bound feet and decides to enrol in imponderable cheers

Who said?
Health isn't about politics!
Health shouldn't be about politics!
Health should be above partisan politics!
Healthy systems
are not about unchanging purity
and safety
and traditional dogma.
Healthy ego and eco systems
are much more about diversity
flexibility
and courageous curiosity
Just as wealthy economic networks,
local through global,
include ecological interrelationships
We might associate resonance
with polyculturally robust interactions,
personal and political,
Multiculturally resilient
dynamic stasis--
Slow inclusive
and diversely intricate
Beauty
cross-pollinating
climaxing inclusive diversity
Avoiding the monocultural purity
and calculating sobriety
of a 100% crabgrass landscape,
Or 100% concrete
Or 100% saltwater environment
with no above water healthy ecosystemic landmass
embedded in prehistoric
pure and safe
powerful but unenlightened
bedrock.

Dancing in my dreams
I'm only dancing in my dreams,
For you no longer hold me
When I need your strong embrace
I will get along
My hopeful heart is very strong,
And you will not define me,
Though no one can take your place
There are other joys to know
And I'll embrace them so,
Every moment, every year,
And when my days are through,
I'll still remember you,
And maybe even shed a little tear,
Yes, I will be okay
No, you can't hold me, we can't sway,
But I still have my dreams
I'm still dancing in my dreams.

This poem was written for a courageous lady who, through illness, lost both legs, yet refused to give up on living the best life she could. Read it again, this time from the perspective of that optimistic and determined soul.
The Song of Eeeooo Eeeooo E
(A lone woman sings)
With your last breath
Of the fading midnight hour
Will you hear with all your powers of the auditory
The musical call of my mystical senryu
Eeeooo Eeeooo E
Eeeooo Eeeooo Eeeooo E
Eeeooo Eeeooo E
From my Bacchic Celebration Towers
Will you join my unashamed company
In the swirling dervish mists
Who go past each midnight
From another realm
Singing and chanting
Eeeooo Eeeooo E
Eeeooo Eeeooo Eeeooo E
Eeeooo Eeeooo
To join a new world
Of never-ending pleasures
That will forever last
Where sensuous music with wild voices
Will put your soul
At risk
With its seductive noises
And make it your Fate
To enter and close its rusty old gates
Forever
Would you join
As they passed
No longer to lament
But to be courageous
To welcome me
To pitch my tent
In your soul
With powers of enchantment and pleasure
That will seem
Heaven sent
A contradiction
Of above and below
For I know
When all lascivious dreams must go
So shed your hubris and pomposity
As you
To me
Are led
Chanting my musical
senryu of
Eeeooo Eeeooo E
Eeeooo Eeeooo Eeeooo E
Eeeooo Eeeooo
We pray to
The Golden Goddess of Exiles
Eeeooo Eeeooo E
Eeeooo Eeeooo Eeeooo E
Eeeooo Eeeooo E
To go to a place
Where purple butterflies live forever
And people never
Die
Eeeooo Eeeooo E
Eeeooo Eeeooo Eeeooo E
Eeeooo Eeeooo

When will I learn not to trust anybody
and not change my kindness too quickly?
Will I turn my cheek
to the one who's in urgent need,
who trembles and who is weak?
Hunger makes all plead!
Help me, God...
being cruel is hard,
being kind is easy;
help me, God...
the beggar stretches his hand,
he asks for food and mercy!
When will we put an end to pain,
break down the barriers of old;
do the hungry seek only love?
Wars are fought for pride and gain,
young soldiers are sent to die in the battlefield alone:
staring at a black sky that hides the face of our God;
and still leaders will go to church to mock our Lord!
Help me, God...
there are only a few who truly care,
who can heal the wounds of the hurt;
help me, God...
send out the brave ones who dare,
who are courageous enough to fight!
Beckoning … beckoning is the night
In its ice blue grey and snow gold light
Beckoning … beckoning is the night
The swallow has long since whispered away
the cardinal and so too …blue jay
have strayed but now in the beckoning light
the beckoning …beckoning of the night
comes the sweeping and keeping
comes sweeping and keeping
in the night
The sky is still ….but wild edged with light
Bluish... high... tight ...grey
but the branches swirl and deeply breigh
beckoning…. they are beckoning
the night into night
Come wild and courageous into fading light
Tis just the beckoning beckoning…. of night
the sky dark blue does and does not ....betray
the coming… coming of end of day
and still it comes the end of day
with the beckoning ...comes beckoning
the…beckoning of night
The light is waning and so day’s might
beckoning as we bridge to night
the wild things move on stealthy flight
beckoning beckoning into night
The beckoning beckoning of the light
wild things shudder and take quick flight
The beckoning beckoning of the night
the wild things move and take to flight
When tomorrow's dawn will cast
first light!

White stars, red and white stripes.
Blue for loyalty.
Waving in the wind, instilling pride.
Reminding us of pledge.
Apple pie, Chevrolet, John Wayne.
Viet Nam, Gulf War,
Freedom of speech, freedom riders,
Free to think, free to be the best we can be.
Texas, California, Iowa, from sea to shining me.
State pride, rawhide, courageous side.
A cultural mix unheard of before the Pilgrims landed, and the Natives
Took pity and helped them live.
Thanksgiving, 4th of July, Veterans of Foreign Wars,
Germans, French, Italians, Scots, Swedes, African Americans.
All Americans, all united in that.
911 Hero pride.
Sacrifices. Pride to all of us, they were Americans.

Unjust narrow taste you brought me ardent in the ice that burns the fire,
On fierce threshold of smooth panic vellum written on turbid clear waters,
Of light because what color hurts I wonder my dear bad powder,
Of snow you trash of kind between us two swarm of united lonelinesses.
Behold stain my immaculate nausea eternally bloomed in putrefaction,
When you count girl's shoulders dry drought of living water that revives the dead,
Beautiful girl asleep uncovered in sheets of cold flames,
Forested in sighs of another me who is you without being anyone.
Awakened by a dirty racket in a pail shouting silence,
Like a chip of star from my life yours among springs of hurting,
So courageous in deeds dangerous for sick health,
Life beyond death the memories the gazes that blind illuminating the depth.
Good crazy friends and you only you multiplied in your absence,
Approximately the thirteenth wonder of the moon that doesn't exist in the calendar,
I search for you losing you I find you forgetting you in the broken mirror of heaven,
You are my snow powder that ignites me in eternal and ephemeral freeze.
Vellum of dark light you write unhappened stories on my skin,
Smooth panic like a sleeping storm in the eye of our tender cyclone,
The color that hurts I wonder is the black white of sinful innocence,
Trash of kind king's price in the sacred filth of our dirty love.
Drought of living water you drown my thirst with desert of burnt waves,
Forested in your sighs I lose myself on the path without straying toward you,
Chip of star fallen upward toward the heavenly abyss of bare earth,
The thirteenth uncounted wonder you are my true impossible.
It seemed there was a secret
Desperation filled the crowd
But the two of them would keep it
True love won't speak aloud
Most couples spend years
Figuring marriage out
But the truth fueled her tears
As vows escaped her mouth
A humble, crumbled sheet
survived palms and pockets
The map to her heartbeat
And knowledge to stop it
She unfolded it still
Trembling hands and moistened cheeks
Jesus took the wheel
And caused her voice to speak
The poetry that followed
Was the icing to their cake
The honest words she chose
Put dignity at stake
But her courageous, faithful leap
Landed safe on common ground
As his love was just as deep
Still, he wouldn't let her drown
Each guest received a dose
Of joy as refreshment
We were honored to be so close
If only for a minute
