Journey Through Time

I left California a week ago Sunday.
Alone with my map, I found the way.
Initial trepidation gave way to wonder.
Beauty of the land enhances the spell I'm under.

From Novato to Tahoe, the drive was slow.
Allowing the remembrance of freeway driving to grow.
Expecting Nevada to be a long, boring drive.
The high desert vistas permitted my juices to thrive.

The interplay of clear blue sky and the light
Creating wondrous hues and vistas of pure delight.
Drifting along with the tumbling tumbleweeds,
A wide-mouth frog carved in the mountainside winked at me.

A ribbon of highway stretched across the Salt Flats.
Looking more like the desert I expected awhile back.
The Great Salt Lake out of nowhere appears
Glistening in the sun like a clear, shiny mirror.

Turning south in Salt Lake City, a planned detour
The Utah rock stars I wanted to explore.
The landscape changed as ever higher I climbed.
Mesas in the distance of color sublime.

Zion and Bryce Canyons... magnificent to behold
Paled in significance as Route 12's glories unfold.
Each bend and curve created a new scene.
From pure, sheer red rock to pine mountains of green.

Land of the Anasazi, the Ancient Ones.
Lived in Boulder, Utah; an oasis in the sun.
The Escalante Grand Staircase is dedicated to them.
Feeling their energy as I traveled the rim.

Torrey to Moab and Arches Monument Park
The formations of red rocks truly touched my heart.
Guardians, gatekeepers, animals, angels and more
Chiseled in stone that was once the ocean floor.

Petrified sand dunes spread before my eyes.
A white rolling desert of rock under clear blue skies.
Opening again to wondrous chiseled formations.
Natural arches and windows of the mountain nations.

Treated myself to lunch in the “Eklektica Cafe”
Met a young man there who made my day.
He gave me the perfect response to "Why Boulder?”
Tell them, he said, “I'll let you know when it's over.”

Touring now behind me. I'm ready to roll
Heading full-steam to Colorado; pine and aspen to behold.
As I cross the border, I am greeted by a sign.
“Welcome to Colorful Colorado. The Trail Through Time.”

I have come full circle somehow I knew
Driving along, I remembered each view.
While there is no ocean; rivers and lakes abound.
It feels very much like I'm homeward bound.

The Song of the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs

TYPICAL 30 - The Start of the 2013-2014 NHL Season
30 of them began their battle with hopeful beginnings
But 14 of them will have their early exit...

As for the 16 teams, their Stanley Cup Playoffs dream begins

The SWEET 16 were chosen, who will be the ones to take the fall?
Round 1 of the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs

Let the First Round Battle Begin!

SWEET 16 - The First Round of the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs
16 of them sprinted out from the starting line
But 8 of them fell short to advance...

The Tampa Bay Lightning couldn't produce any more thunder
The Detroit Red Wings ran its last engine
The St. Louis Blues have played its final note
The Dallas Stars could no longer lead the charge

The Columbus Blue Jackets fired its last cannon
The Philadelphia Flyers have crashed down
The Colorado Avalanche buried themselves in the snow
And the San Jose Sharks couldn't take a final bite

The ELITE 8 were chosen, who will the ones to take the fall?
Round 2 of the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs

Let the Second Round Battle Begin!

ELITE 8 - The Second Round of the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs
8 of them advanced to the next stage
But 4 of them failed to advance...

The Minnesota Wild could no longer pull a wild run
The Pittsburgh Penguins were left on frozen thin ice
The Boston Bruins were hunted down
And the Anaheim Ducks quacked no more

The FINAL 4 were chosen, who will the ones to take the fall?
Round 3 of the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs

Let the Conference Finals Begin!

FINAL 4 - The Third Round of the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs
4 of them advanced to the next stage
But only 2 of them will go to the final stage...

The Montreal Canadiens were left in a cold state
And the Chicago Blackhawks final stand ended in complete defeat

The TREMENDOUS 2 were chosen, who will be the one to win it all?
The Final Round of the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs

Let the Stanley Cup Final Begin!

TREMENDOUS 2 - The Final Round of the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs
2 of them danced on the big stage
But only 1 of them was crowned as the champion...

The New York Rangers could not lead the way to the finish

The ONLY 1 was chosen, a team who won through it all!
Los Angeles Kings - The 2014 Stanley Cup Champions

Let the Stanley Cup Playoffs End!

Premium Member Looking For Elvis

While looking for Elvis
Met Nessie in Loch Ness
Hoarding a leprechauns pot of gold

While getting ready to depart
I tripped over the Lost Ark
In the baggage of a hitchhiking Pharaoh

Thought I had got lost in flight
Stumble into Camelot at night
King Arthur shooting Robin Hood's arrows

Little green men from Mars
Battling a dragon with bumper cars
Jumping on my unicorn I rode

Diving into the Ocean
The mermaids gave me notions
My search for Elvis was getting cold

Swam down to Atlantis in the Atlantic
Dine at Poseidon's banquet
He had a big Roman nose

Cruising the Devil's Triangle
Being careful for any angle
I try to assassinate Castro

No money for the Florida toll booth
I wander into the Flountain of Youth
I look much younger so I'm told

On my way to Colorado
I kiss the Indian Princess of El Dorado
They can keep their entire treasure load

I saw Jimmy Hoffa eating a hot dog
While sitting with Big Foot on a redwood log
They were both getting pretty old

Went over to Memphis
Back through Las Vegas
My search for Elvis was about to fold

Than an angel named Gabriel
Told me about the new guy down at the stable
So I flew off to Shangri-la with pilot Joe

Our wings iced without warning
Damn this damn Global warming
Flying over Santa and a Chinese Viking Eskimo

We crashed landed in Xanadu
Met a few people we both knew
But Elvis left so I was told

With my new friend Yeti
We shared a big bowl of spaghetti
Amelia Earhart cooked and sold

Round the Garden of Eden
I traded an apple for freedom
From the lost tribes of Isreal though

On Mount Olympus I heard singing
The voice of Elvis reigning
I found the King of Rock and Roll

We ate a fried banana peanut butter sandwich
Elvis offer me the last bite of his sandwich
I politely refused I couldn't be so bold

Before I could ask Elvis as such
He rose and said "Thank you very much"
The answers I needed were put on hold

"Beam me up Scottie" he quipped
Than in a flash he was on the Mother Ship
And I turn and saw my friend little Moe

Area 51 is where that saucer came from
In Noah's Ark we drank wine and hard rum
Finding Elvis I am no hero

Looking for Elvis is half the fun
Its the trip that ends where it begun
Down in Dallas on a grassy knoll

Premium Member Home Clown Poet

Shuddering awake in a plane
32000 feet above home, family,
Commitment
Right

Clown inside me thinks he's cute
The poet sticks to the shadows
"Laugh and the world laughs with you
Cry and you cry alone"
Tired of being alone
Tired of numb laughter
And superficial appeal

I'll be false
To get your attention
I'll be false to drive you away
You think you want
This bag of crumpled dreams
Look away
And fasten your seat belt

Flying over it all
Gets rough sometimes, too
I don't even know why
I talk to you
We're just each other's fantasy
If you were for me
You would have fallen
Right into my lap
Not into my computer
Not who I want to be
Right now, anyway

And you don't feel like a friend
More like a f**k buddy
I'm too desperate
I want something to hold onto
But something real
Not you

Young and beautiful
Looks good on me
Feels good on me
But it won't stay

And, yeah, I know
I feel good to you
Like an old comfortable shoe
'til the laces break, the leather cracks
I don't shine no more
And what's left of me
Isn't worth wearing out

Uh-huh I'll still be "raging
Against the dying of the light."
But still go into that tender night
Just wish you
Felt more like
a friend

We're so high now
I can barely make out a road
Or a roof top
But I can see shadows
Cast down from clouds below
On Colorado mountain tops
And it's smooth sailing

I need someone to be true to
These words would drive you away

Quit playing
Know what's for me
Not settle for whatever I can get
And I'll be lonely

Like out the window, New Mexico
Desert stretches wide empty
What I'm used to
And you're the East Coast
Lush, pretty, temperate, hydrated
I'd devour you
(Like I just did)
And never want to leave
But I'm still the desert
And you're the trees
How much will we drink of
Each other

The clown's rising
Bad timing
But keeps me from
Being lonely
When life hurts
And too free
When it doesn't

Over the Apache White Mountains
Descending enough to see
Lake's drying up
I don't want go home

Poet talking now
Clown
When we touch ground
If not here, where
If not her, who
We're on our way
Give us a spin
I like you, girl

Gentle landing
Phoenix (a cool 103)
Seems like I'm
Almost
Never

St Patrick's Day 2011 11: 02pm

It was St. Patrick’s Day 2011, and all wasn’t
full of happy-go-lucky four-leaf clovers.
No, it wasn’t going to be a very cheerful day
after all.

She had been missing since New Year’s Eve.
That night of terror still rips apart my chest
when I remember the way my phone laid in
my hand not ringing.
I anticipated her phone call, yet deep inside
I knew I would never hear from her again.
I knew that day felt different.
Maybe it was the way the snow was finally
melting along the shore of the reverie that
rested outside my sill.
Maybe it was the changing of seasons that
March always brought that time of year.

I was invited out to go celebrate a day
full of green everything, but I just wasn’t
in the mood for fun anymore.
I had changed since she left and no one
understood why…except me.
So I did what I did best and laid on the bed
we used to laugh on.
I read old letters she wrote me and wrote
in a journal I had been keeping for the last
three months.
It was full of melancholic and sappy goodbyes,
remorseful regrets and yesterday’s sorrows.
Little did I know that night would be the night
that would change my life forever.

I heard the doorbell downstairs ring and my
heart raced.
It was like I already knew who it was and
what he wanted.
Too scared to move I just sat there listening
to the ring….ring…ring…
I looked at the clock on the old dresser and
saw it was 11:02 pm
For that would be the time I’d always
remember.

Each step downstairs I took slower than the
last knowing what I was about to hear.
I saw his silhouette on the front porch and
could see his apprehension.
As I opened the door all it took was one
look upon his face.
It was the detective.
The man who was in charge of searching
day after day and night after night for my
sister.
She was finally found lifeless under an old
Colorado Spruce Pine tree in front of a
fountain.

Time stopped, so did my beating heart.
For my life would never be the same again.

Sometimes when I look at the time and it
happens to be nine seventeen pm, I cry.
Chills run up my arms and through my veins
like that fountain she was lying under when
she took her final breath.

One Night In A Haunted Manor-

Mohonk Mountain House is a rapturous place
where we love to visit and walk the long trails;
partake in its charming Victorian grace.
A mystical ambiance- there still prevails.

A manor-like hotel for overnight guests,
we managed to sleep there a Saturday night.
The hallways were long, and at once did suggest
past visions we'd seen which left us with much fright.

Contraptions, wall-mounted, held hoses wound up
with nozzles at end placed to put out a fire.
So much like a movie, we'd seen where setup
did look much the same and so dreadfully dire.

That night, we awoke with some noises we heard
that sounded as though they were right in our room.
A voice giggling loudly- now this was absurd,
as women-like shadows quick-heightened our gloom.

We managed to sleep, but woke up- from a dream?
Fire hoses were chasing us down the long hall!
The nozzles were faces with teeth...made us scream!
They smothered and bit us in that horrid brawl.

Next morning we saw, on the desk, a brochure,
a story which made our hair stand up on end,
that Stephen King frequented Mohonk- proved sure,
ghosts helped shape 'The Shining'- that horror he penned!

Note:
In addition to presidents and the like, one of the Mohonk’s claims to fame is that it has been a regular haunt of none other than famed horror novelist, Stephen King. Because of this, the Mohonk is thought to be one of the possible inspirations for King’s classic work, "The Shining", a story that just happens to be about a haunted hotel. While the haunted Stanley Hotel in Colorado is usually credited as “The Shining Hotel” — and has done everything it possibly can to capitalize on this legend — fans have conflicting opinions. And while the Stanley Hotel may or may not have been the start of the “official” story, it’s hard to imagine that so many frequent trips to the Mohonk wouldn’t have made some sort of lasting impression on King’s mind as he wrote his famous novel.

Premium Member A Funny Thing Happened On the Way To My Hanging -Part Deux

Dedicated to a fine poet on soup, Lin Lane
-------------------------------------------------

I shook hands with my brother and bade him farewell
Then set off on my journey away from this hell
Mexico I’d head for and buy a small farm
Meanwhile back in town the guards raised the alarm.

A posse they assembled to help track me down
But saw some Apaches and hightailed it back to town
It was far from over, the Pinkertons were brought in
Determined they were, to carry out the hanging.

After three days riding my horse became lame
It slowed down my escape that made me fair game
Sold my horse at Santa Fe and boarded a train
Vowed I’d never come back to America again.

Two whole years went by and I was living free
Thought they’ve given up now, they’ll never find me
Bought a farm, met a girl, a beautiful senorita
Had two children both girls, Anna and Conchita.

One day I went to town to buy some supplies
The Pinkertons were there, I couldn’t believe my eyes
They arrested me at gunpoint and they took me to jail
I strongly protested my innocence but to no avail.

Spent a week in the jail while they sorted deportation
Paperwork completed, headed for the railroad station
After a long journey we arrived back in Colorado
They had the noose ready, they were raring to go.

All over the state the news was all about me
The Pinkertons just loved their new found glory
The night before the hanging I heard guns blazing
What happened after that was truly amazing.

About a hundred desperado's invaded the town
Burst into the jail and told me to lie down
The sound was deafening as they shot at the lock
The Pinkertons stood speechless, they were in shock.

I went out into the street and a voice said to me
“We only found out because of the publicity”
Then out of the shadows came a face I knew well
My twin brother once more had rescued me from hell.

He said “join our gang and we’ll ride far away”
I said “crimes not for me and one day you’ll pay”
Rode back to Mexico to round up my family
Then headed to Brazil where I now live and I’m free.

Lin suggested a part deux so I was inspired to write a sequel, thanks Lin.

We're Gonna Feel Just Fine

My friends said C’mon let’s go, let’s head on down to Mexico.’
We’ll drink up all their tequila and we’ll snort up all their blow.
My friends said c’mon let’s go, out to Aspen, Colorado.
We’ll snuggle with some bunnies, and ski ‘til our buzz starts to go.

My friends said c’mon let’s go, it’s cold under this Missouri snow.
Let’s go to Miami and party ‘til we run out of dough.
My friends said c’mon let’s go, those Las Vegas lights are all aglow.
We’ll gamble away all our cash and leave with nothing to show.

My friends said c’mon let’s go, let’s head on down south to New Orleans.
Drink all night at Mardi Gras, get the drunkest we’ve ever been.
My friends said c’mon let’s go, to the sands of California’s beach.
Where the wine flow like water, and all our dreams will be in reach.

Chorus:
Why don’t you pack yourself a bag and let’s get on down the line.
We’ll worry about tomorrow later…but today we’re gonna feel just fine.
I said you guys go on without me, maybe I will make it there someday.
But now I have responsibilities, and life keeps getting in the way.
I can’t pay the rent and the utilities if I don’t go to work today.
Maybe when I’m a little older, then I’ll have time to come out and play.

With my wife, four kids and a dog, my life has turned out just fine.
I don’t worry ‘bout tomorrow ‘cause I always toed the line.
I’m ready to pack my bag and use the money I never spent.
I have the time to go see, all those places I never went.

Tried to get in touch with my friends, so that maybe we could meet.
But Dave lives at Bellevue, Blue sleeps in a box out on some street.
Dan didn’t shake the habit and OD’d a year ago today.
Frankenstein’s in jail somewhere and that’s where he’s going to stay.

Chorus:
I said you guys go on without me, maybe I will make it there someday.
But now I have responsibilities, and life keeps getting in the way.
Glad they went without me, while I stayed and toed the line.
Because tomorrow my friends is finally here, and I am feeling just fine.

I’m going to pack my bag so I can get on down the line.
I don’t have to worry about tomorrow , and today I’m feeling just fine.

I
Where, oh where is Virginia Dare*,
No one can find her anywhere.
Her disappearance is the very worst,
I guess that's what comes from being the first.

*Virginia Dare was born on Aug. 18, 1587 in Roanoke Colony, Virginia, the first child born in the New World to English parents. Both the colony and all its inhabitants…80 men, 17 women, and 11 children…disappeared mysteriously, and no traces have ever been found.

II
Amelia Earhart* flew away
And hasn't been seen
To this very day.
Her goal was to make it to Paris in style,
But got only as far as a small desert isle.

*Presumed to have crashed on Howland Island in the Central Pacific Ocean, Amelia disappeared on July 2, 1937. According to a 2015 news article, her remains may have been found and identified.

III
And Jimmy Hoffa*,
Of course it's just hearsay,
Is fertilizing a field
In New York or New Jersey.
The reason for doing him in was excused,
The mob made him an offer,
And Jimmy refused.

*He was heavily involved with the mob-controlled Teamsters Union. He disappeared on July 30, 1975.

IV
The mystery in London
That continues a gripper,
Scotland Yard still doesn't know
Who was Jack the Ripper.*
Was he maybe a royal, a doctor, a rounder?
At least now the prostitutes are all sleeping sounder.

*He terrorized London from 1888-1891. the term "Ripperology" was coined to describe the study and analyses of the Ripper cases. There are over 100 theories about his identity.

V
Another conundrum
Hashed o'er many a snifter,
Concerning Sasquatch, or Bigfoot*,
Is he a myth or a mythter?
It's widely agreed that he's really quite scary,
His general description is big, tall, and hairy.

*We can also add Yeti to the list.

VI
Last, but not least,
There's the Anasazi.*
Did they self-destruct
Like a kamikaze?
Or did they decide to quit stone-age labors
And move to the city like most of their neighbors?

*This is the historical Navajo name meaning "Ancient Ones" who inhabited the 4-Corners region…Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado…up until sometime in the 13th century, archaeologists surmise. Why they abandoned their towns and cities is still a mystery.
