Emancipation

Clippity Cloppity
    Emily Davison
    confronted race horses
    losing her life

    dissident suffragette
    indiscriminately
    committed sabotage
    chaos and strife

    Hickory Dickory
    Leonora Cohen
    hunger strike ends with the
    cat and mouse ploy

    campaigning for justice
    legitimisation
    Scapegrace to magistrate
    ending in joy

    1 / 28 / 2021.

During the 1913 Epsom Derby, Emily Davison threw herself under King George V horse
Anmer. Dying from her injuries 4 days later.

Leonora Cohen in 1913 vandalised a display case containing the Crown Jewels in the
Tower of London. Defending herself, she was released on a technicality. After another act
of vandalism, she went on hunger strike while in prison, but was released early. This was
due to Lord Asquith's cat and mouse act. Giving prisoners time to recover, preventing
needless deaths while incarcerated. Leonora was trampled on by a mounted police horse,
during one protest march. She died aged 105 , serving as magistrate for 25
years and receiving the O.B.E. incidently she was born in the city of Leeds, where I too was
    born and bred.

Premium Member A Tale of Kosher Shrimp

Hymie Frankel sat in a restaurant
in the courtyard of a mall
Hymie was aware for sure
that the fare wasn’t kosher at all

The Rabbi of Hymie’s synagogue
  just happened to walk past
When he noticed where Hymie was
he let out an awful gasp

Hymie, friend, what’s eating you
You know you mustn’t dine here
‘Now don’t you fret, Rabbi Cohen
  There’s nothing whatsoever to fear’

‘You’ve seen me order, have you not?’
‘Yes, I have, but what’s that got—’
‘And you’ve seen me eat the shrimp they brought?’
‘Yes, I have. That’s why I’m so hot—’

‘Then, good! You’ll surely agree with the court’s decision
~ I’m dining under strict Rabbinic supervision!’

Premium Member Playing Old Maid Players

"To have Clarity of Intention means to align oneself with the clear and single-pointed purpose of that [regenerative] impulse itself. And the way that alignment occurs, in a [bicameral] human heart and mind, is that the intention to [co-]evolve becomes more important [and obvious and ubiquitous and nutritious] than anything else in this [living ecosystemic] world." Andrew Cohen, "Evolutionary Enlightenment", p. 111

Life is like a game of Old Bodhisattva Maid.
We co-arise the cards and hands
we have been dealt
and have dealt ourselves
facedown,
we have gifted and been gifted.

So now you know,
we made that Old Maid hairshirt
and capital choking tie
now in your hand,
just means its your time to wear them
until they find some other happy hapless guy.

Love is like a game of Wise Elder.
We co-arise our carded minds
dealing mutual subsidiarity to co-gravitate together
facedown forward,
faceup backward down
through time's past intertransactional memory,
co-empathic gifting to and fro.

So now you know,
we made this Wise Bodhisattva Elder shirt and tie
at Left and Right
MindThought and BodyFelt hand,
just means its our Time to help us
compassionately wear them
until We find some Othered unhappy
hapless ego-soul

To have Clarity of Intention,
healthy body/wealthy mind
to co-align oneself with equanimity
to each moment's co-arising
Old Wise Elder Maid
cooperative Win/Win game.

Premium Member Peal of a Bell

"Ring the bells that still can ring Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack in everything That's how the light gets in"
                                                             Leonard Cohen

No sweet sound is ever heard
in the pealing of a broken bell
or when darkness weaves through
the mist to cast a mystical spell

Nothing in life is granted freely
All things have a tariff price
The devil demands too much
With evil wiles he will entice

Life is covered in stains and flaws
Tatters and crevices abound
Where there is a modicum of light,
darkness will always be found

Hold the clapper in your hand
Let it sound from lip to lip
Be heard before death arrives
sailing the night on a ghost ship

Leonard Cohen Was Right

Standing before the microphone,
blank faces stare from cushioned chairs
Jewels sparkle, acting like they’re real,
while bow ties just seem sad…it happens

Marching to the beat of clicking heels,
unbuttoned vests as strange eclipsed spotlights
illumine smoke swirls in overhead rafters
flowing from my ember’d fingertips

And my hair is a mess…but it always is
and I don’t care…do you?
I’d clear my throat but that does no good,
gravel has taken up residence…it pays the rent

The room goes dim, the audience worries
Glares spark like steel on asphalt
I can see them clear, slowly fading in anxious doubt
My mind scratches some ink in dusty thoughts…

I love you, I love everything that is you
Need surpasses desire, and I need
My arms long to cling you, crushed against me,
breathing as one, harmonious breath…dusty thoughts…they come

The bass player plucks and that is my cue,
flicking my ashes I begin to read…poetry
and the audience smiles…I am a poet and poetry is cool,
Leonard Cohen was right

Darkness On the Horizon

Should the darkness come to you
where would the light shine through?
The waters are mere muddied sleuths
with lies stacked higher than any truths.
The Government rule has so much to hide
and the honest citizen is lost in the rampant tide.
Orwells 1984 comes a little late in the game
everything plays out in secrets of another name.
The darkness clutters any release
of what was once the land of democracy.
In shame I blush
as secrets lie in the hush.
Can the darkness be more dark
 then Washington's blemished mark?

Premium Member Cracks

Cracks

do we know
that words and language
create cracks..and
we might be held hostage
to words and language
without knowing their
propensity to crack..

it is the crack of an eggshell
an eggshell of whiteness
allowing life to emerge..
whiteness appears to divide
shaping the world and us
with distinctions galore..

we work with distinctions
as each finds her own..
yet..within each journey
we are invited to
observe once more
a white eggshell
and to notice how words
seem to crack
what cannot be cracked..

then to notice.. cracks
appear and disappear
demonstrating for all
the strength and weakness
indeed the beauty
of our words...

And..don't forget Leonard Cohen:
Ring the bells (ring the bells) that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack in everything (there is a crack in everything)
That's how the light gets in

Premium Member Nothing's As It Seems

You think you enjoy the radical,
flaming in the gas jets of astral fumes,
spinning in the ocular midnight of a rabid dogs dream,
yet, I think you know, NOTHING is as it seems.

An all too thorough pondering
of mundane thought comes to naught
as vulgar words don’t necessarily wax poetic.

     Talking, writing, hurl, polysyllabic words
across a dot matrix screen in a pixel fight with the Lord
don’t made you a prophet or a prophetess
 	You just scream now, scream…
show your pain across a global terrain in a globular dream
‘Cause I know, you know, NOTHING is as it seems.

Rebel, rebel hell, damn good for nothing navel watcher
pick the lint out, start a fire, you don’t have to die to mean something
you have to do something, damn, it's not enough to just BE
ACT don’t just bite the dirty hand, green with the bile of your blood
eat the whole arm…chaw of a chunk and spit it in the systemic eye
of a postulate system which MAKES have and have nots.
See that fading grin wink from existence and the twin terrors of
DUMB and DEE saying “Howdy and Fiddle Dee Dee” to the
arses who claim to KNOW, ‘cause I know, you know,
NOTHINGS as it seems………..

Premium Member The Gull Thief

“On the Beach,” we sat,
to enjoy the “Sea and Sand,”
“A Paper Full of Fish and Chips”—
our plan to eat that day.

A “Bird on a Wire” was watching,
his “Eagle Eye” on the prize.
Mum spied the gull.
“Not This Time,” she said.

We “Won’t Get Fooled Again.”

Beyond us, the “Oldest Surfer on the Beach”
grabbed his board and headed for the surf—
“Catching a Wave,” his plan today.

He rose.
He wobbled.
We cheered—we thought he had it tamed.
He “Wiped Out!”
His board shot sideways through the spray.

Then wings.
A flicker of white and grey.
A chip was gone.

“Hands Off The Goods!” we yelled.
But the boldest gull banked over us,
the last hot chip clamped in his beak.

He flew beyond the breaking waves
and called, “I’ll Be Back.”

“Bye Gull Bye”! we cried.

Not a Clerihew

I went to university to study mathematics
The performance of my teachers was boring not ecstatic
So then I went to London to earn a little money
While living with my husband who as usual smelled of honey
Then we went to Portland Bill to study rocks and seaside forms
I took to writing poetry because I love the sound of rhymes
I would have preferred lyrics of the Leonard Cohen Anthem type
But when he died I grieved and wept, too late for us to meet on Skype
What a sad old life it is when Donald Trump builds up more walls
So sound the trumpet and ram’s horn, like Jericho the walls will fall.
Oh,Lord.
