Premium Member Thunderous Silence

Ebony and ivory soldiers
stand sentinel on checkered plains,
their shadows stretching across the polished wood.

The mind becomes a blade,
thoughts crystallise
in the space between heartbeats.

Each move echoes
like thunder in an empty room,
while fingertips hover over destiny's pieces.

Time dissolves
In the crucible of concentration,
where seconds stretch into infinities.

Silence roars louder,
than any crowd in this arena of intellect,
as kingdoms rise and fall beneath fluorescent stars.

Victory dwells
in the eye of stillness,
where warriors of thought wage their bloodless wars.

War…the stench of death
How long?
How long will it fill our nostrils?
How long will the mothers cry
And babies die?
How many times will our young men
Be snatched away?
Their future riddled with shrapnel
Jagged metal pieces that ricochet
Into the hearts of those around
Tearing into dreams, and hopes
Gouging out promises of a better life
A future

How long….how long will the sound of war
Fill our ears with horror?
How long must we cower
As the powers that be
Play chess with our lives
A game in which
THERE ARE NO WINNERS!

WE DEMAND THE RIGHT TO LIVE!
OUR LIVES ARE JUST AS PRECIOUS
There is no First World
Second World
Third World price tags on human life
“I thought we all were children of GOD.”
ONE GOD
ONE!!!

The ravages of war live on
We are never the same
Walking wounded
With ugly scars that you see
And those that you can’t see
Are even more horrific
As they mark our marred minds
Showing we are insane
In constant pain
There is no gain
From WAR

Give us peace!
Give us a chance to live!
Like you….
We were made to be free, happy, fulfilled
We want to dream
We want to worship
We want to see tomorrow

Help us....

“I thought we all were, children of God.”

The situation in the Middle East is volatile at the moment. Perhaps that is why the words of this song from Disney’s Hunch Back of Notre Dame, God Help the Outcasts, has been running around in my head all day. It depicts SO well my feelings towards the situation now. The sentences in quotation marks and the title are direct quotes from the song. Here is the link…LISTEN TO IT…and remember your BROTHERS AND SISTERS in the MIDDLE EAST who are not sure if tomorrow will dawn for them!

Best of tragic-comedies I have read so far,
Is Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice, fineness par?
Antonio fails to pay his heavy loan taken,
Shy-lark's immense pride is too terribly shaken...!

Each little movement, like final chess, did all play.
None, though, moving naughty coins each step, could not stay.
Shakespeare knew how to start and end his whole story,
It's, hence, his each story has its gorgeous glory...!

Who could, days such old, think of flesh away from blood?
He did. This is hence his stories seem flower-bud.
Skylark had to be dragged within the plot he hatched.
Antonio's judge (you know who) did get things well-patched...!

Love ultimately wins. Each in this cosmos knows.
Despising love, I do not know, where a soul goes...!

                                     Body Ails Yet Spirit Soars*

Just back home from a surgery
                                      Of coronary arteries,
With the body ailing with pain,
Chess and left foot stretching with strain,

When getting to and up from bed
Is an awful burden to dread,
When taking meals instills no taste,
When sight of pills emits distaste,

                              When fulfilling one`s daily needs
                                 Becomes a real load, indeed,
                             When suffering becomes a friend,
When ailing bones foresee no end,

When treading few steps is a core,
Yet the spirit soars very high
Like eagles flying in the sky,
It is time the Lord to adore,

It`s time to recall divine hymns,
It is time the Lord`s name to chime,
It is high time the soul to seek,
It is time the spirit to meet,

It`s time to raise the spirit high,
Let it fly high up in the sky,
Let positive thoughts greet the mind
That the body its health may find.

Distasteful Political Games

Mi conflicted wid how fi vote
It look like them politican yah will destroy anybody fi a vote.
Mi look to the sky and wonder ... God, a yuh one cam show mi how fi vote
JLP rock with scandal and PNP playing political chess wid people life!
Mi conflicted wid how fi vote!

You tell me after 25 years the PNP bring up Mrs Warren mistake ...wait a second, Mr. Paulwell you have a few mistakes of your own! Since we must fire her ... I guess we shouldn't vote fi yuh!

Mr. Paulwell is only you alone have youthful exuberance?
Mi have a problem with that
We must put you in Jamaica House and tell this 57 year old woman to go home because of a mistake 25 years ago?
Distasteful political games!
Only you entitle to make mistakes?
Seriously Mr Paulwell!

Where is Norman Manley ... we need the voice of the dead to speak ... Sir, we need yuh help
Them a destroy yuh party
I guess the party that was built on "putting people first" just forgot its mantra
It's anything for a vote these days
Where are the values and attitudes
Where is the heart
I guess the new mantra is "win at all costs"
Distasteful political games are at play
Any price to win...by any means to Jamaica House

You will not get my vote on the back of a woman that has given back to so many including me.
Distasteful political games!
Where is your heart Mr Phillip Paulwell
I guess power has taken its toll on you ...
It's party before people
Using people as political pawns ...
Distasteful political games!

What Is Success

What is Success

Is it being selfless
Even during moments of duress
Where I don’t try to impress

Or those times where I don’t make a mess
Which is often I confess
For wisdom I don’t profess

These thoughts coalesce
In my mind like a fortress
Sometimes seemingly useless

Difficult to access
During moments of stress
Or worry in excess

Do they reveal my lack of classiness
Or skills at chess
Over which I obsess

Is it about the way I dress
Or a life lacking fullness
Without much to bless

Shame arrives during idleness or
After periods where I am win less
It is these I try to suppress

My parents believe I am aimless
But still show their fondness
And support with kindness

My life at times senseless
Revealing all this is just a guess
So I egress

First Love

A Lonely World
Married twice, does that sound nice? Am I now a scarlet or a heretic?
Full of rhetorical questions, and left alone in a world so cruel.
Oh, how you played me like the fool.

We hurt one another , we did so twice, do you think that sounds nice?
A complicated world, full of so much confusion, longing for a deeper meaning in the name of life.

We question God, and run back to him for answers, only to forget faith and hope in a restless world.

I like to be still, feel the wind, smell my surroundings, soak in the earth, know a love that will never depart.

A kind of unconditional yet passionate love that I once shared.
As the world is so lonely; no-one seems to care.

I played your queen; you were the king , a game of chess for the political class of unrighteous blasphemy on both sides.

A Romeo and Juliet story, full of love and hate, and in eternity they live together once again in peace.
Lovers reuniting once again, until the day she awaits her lovers reprise.

No, not a scarlet don’t brand me like so. I once was a princess with Romeo in hand, we played together so well like an old cover band.

Like Hank Williams Senior and his country song blues, his broken back, and gambling too.

Who would've thunk I'd be thrown a curve
Taking pills to relieve my stress
The stress of moving, to calm myself down
Life's like a long game of chess

You make a move and hope for the best
Experience tells you you're right
Then all of a sudden you're thrown a curve
A proverbial bullet you must bite

Not everything goes exactly as planned
Be flexible and ready for change
It'll lead to a more peaceful and happy life
Even better than fortune and fame

Who needs fame, it's a fleeting thing
The real blessings are ones you hold dear
Tell someone close you love them each day
Just like magic a smile will appear

It's sometimes hard to follow this advice
Have to keep reminding myself

masks

A hundred masks which one to use?
A hundred dreams which one to lose,
Now here I lay, a shadow of myself,
A ghost of the personality I had,
A mask off charades I play,
A card I choose everyday.

How many layers exist inside,
One happy, one sad, and one love derived.
An empty one, I push to fill;
The contents always fall out,
Leaving me nauseated still.

So a game i play everyday,
Some chess, dress up, a disarray
Until I'm left to clean the mess,
Only to realize I forgot which face I had.
Makeup for my personality,
Until I don't have remover left.

So I layer it on, one by one,
Buried so deep I locked myself.
So much absence, what do I feel?
What to leave and what to heal;

But passes another day,
With my masks and disarray,
As they say, you have to pretend to actually fall asleep,
So I go manic, wether too much or too less to feel,
The mask might melt but it's glued so deep,
Taking it off is too much to see

Premium Member Lakeshore drive and Goethe Chicago

We suddenly strolled down Lakeshore drive
facing Goethe street named after Wolfgang von
Goethe famous German poet just at the crosswalk
while waving to the hidden Walter Payton
nooks wandering steel of recycled metal

forming beautiful art found beneath the
Gold coast and shorelines of ancient buildings
surrounding the Drake hotel while rust erosion
casted away sticking to the bottom of stalled
sail boats awaiting the thaw of Lake Michigan
dashing for coffee mingling with the chess

players when a lady stepped on my sketchers
right at the heel I continued strutting reaching
Lincoln park zoo in time for the giant Tigers
to pounce my finger tips began to frost a bit
I took a few easy steps to the museum I always
love the museums of Chicago dazzled by creativity

art and history settling down the Dusable atmosphere
I supposed I'd wandered to far facing the cheese
building on Lasalle and Van Burean that housed
all the serial killers over looking Navy pier in a faint
distance I approached Maggie Daley park named
after Mayor Daleys precious wife finally resting for a

calming respite overlooking the cities shoreline
walking backwards I notice the water tower behind
a quiet bench empty calming glancing over the hustle
and bustle of Lakeshore drive last stop the sign reads
do not enter only way Goethe and Lakeshore drive the
old homeless shelter salvation army chaplin services home
That's Chicago
