The Pawn

Ups and downs .... and all arounds,
my life's full of twists and turns.
Things I've had, and things I've lost ,
things for which I still yearn.

Happy days, happy years,
and more sad ones than I can say.
I've learned from both, grown from both,
without getting lost along the way.

Memories, they make me cry.
The good ones and the bad.
My tears can flow so easily
whether I'm happy or sad.

Ups and downs and all arounds.
Life turned out differently than planned.
From some things I walked, even ran,
and for others, I took a stand.

Sixty years flew by so fast.
I blinked and it was gone.
In this chess game we call life
my part has been the pawn.
