In Coney Island

The Fourth’s the day for fireworks
And barbecues and beer,
But there’s another custom
That takes place but once a year:

The hot dog eating contest!
And the champs are all prepared,
While only those insane enough
To challenge will have dared.

The five-time winner, Joey Chestnut,
Weighing just 210,
Devoured sixty-eight last year
And wants to win again.

The female best contestant,
Soaking wet one hundred pounds,
Ate forty-one, complete with buns,
A number that astounds.

To watch them stuff their faces
Is a most amazing sight.
It’s silly, crazy and, to me,
Pure grossness at its height.

Yet people love to watch and cheer
To see who’ll wear the crown,
Though mostly they are hoping
Not all hot dogs will stay down.

The hot dog number I’ll consume
Today will add to zero,
But Coney Island soon will crown
The proud new hot dog hero!

Making Sandwiches

I wake in the hour of ghosts,
alongside the songs of owls
& swim through la mer d’etoiles
to the bakery

The door rings at my entrance,
flour coats the table like sand.
Culled fresh les champs de blé
for the bakery

Loaves are rolled then scored thrice
in the plentiful, cinnamon air.
Ovens hot as le desert de l’amour
at the bakery

Mother’s buy loaves in the hour of dawn,
freshly baked, for children’s lunches
to be eaten at tables d’amitié.
In the bakery,

with flour-soaked hands, my heart
beats sparrowquick at the thought
of my bread enjoyed dans le jardin des enfants
O, blessed to work at the bakery.

Lauren Steadman

Lauren is originally a Paralympic swimmer,
But her uncle guided her into the triathlon,
A third of which involves outdoor swimming,
And did her first one in 2011, came second.

Born without a lower right arm, she’s won,
Many a Paralympic, World and Euro title,
And in swimming, 2009, won the Worlds,
In Rio, the 4x100m freestyle relay 34pts.

In that same year in Reykjavik in Iceland,
Lauren won the bronze 400m freestyle S9,
And in Berlin in 2011, at the Euro Champs,
Lauren took freestyle 4x100m relay bronze.

2013, and she scored top gold in Antalya,
Turkey, at the ETU Para-tiathlon Europeans,
Then at the ITU World Champs in London,
Lauren logged down a silver medal proudly.

Then in 2014 at the ETU European Champs,
In Kitzbühel, Austria, Lauren won the gold,
And at the ITU Worlds, Edmonton, Canada,
Lauren took yet another World class title.

In 2015 at the ETU Europeans in Geneva,
She strode to victory with yet another gold,
And at the ITU World Champs in Chicago,
In that same year, yet another fell on her.

2016 and at the ETU Europeans in Lisbon,
Portugal, Lauren collected still another gold,
And so in Rio she triumphed with a silver:
She has a 1st in Psychology, born 18/12/92.

At the Diamond League meets; she’s referenced.

She is coached by Jonas-Tawiah Doddo tough,
And Julie Hollman, and at the London Paralympics,
She won bronze in the 4x100m womens relay rough,
Doing very well in the 100m and in the 200m antics.

That same year and Holland, the Stadkanaal’s locale.
Livvy travelled to these IPC European Championships,
Where she procured the honour of the bronze medal,
Twice over, in the 100m and the 200 metre battleships.

Her mother’s country, Wales, in Swansea in 2014,
Livvy won at these Europeans a bronze and a silver,
In the 100m T38, and then in the 100m T35-38 gene,
Storming to victory like a train needing to deliver.

Then in 2015 in Qatar at the World Champs in Doha,
She won the gold with three team mates in the relay,
In the 4x100m they did pound with speed and power,
‘Cos Livvy had Di Dougherty as her mentor to sleigh.

2016, and the Grosseto Europeans happened in Italy,
And Livvy won a gold medal to boast about back home.
Then in Rio she came 7th in the 100m sprint, her tally,
But she was removed from the relay so she did moan.

love is all you need

Don't by me designer clothes, don't give me precious stones, don't need none of that. Take me for a walk on the beach by the cove. I want to feel the rocks beneath my toes.

Don't want to live in a mansion where fake people dwell.
Don't want to rent the penthouse in some fancy hotel.

Build me a shack that has a big wooden beam.
With a large front porch by a flowing stream.

Make me a hammock swinging from a tree.
We will lay in it together just you and me.

Don't want to eat in exclusive restaurants where I cant be myself.
filled with self – important people flaunting their wealth.

Lets sit on a blanket and eat under a shady tree.
Where time is not our master and we can be who we want to be.

Don't want to go shopping in luxury boutiques
Don't want to walk the streets of Champs -Elysees

Don't need no possessions to make me feel good.
Sit me amongst the wild flowers in some over grown wood.

Don't need anyone's approval, don't need to impress
Don't need my nails done don't need no fancy dress.

All the money in the world doesn't make you rich, don't you see,
love is all you need, and its within you and me.

Greasing the Poles

The Eagles accomplished their goal
To play in this year’s Super Bowl.
Their fans are all thrilled
That they have fulfilled
For Philly, a huge starring role.

For if they are the Super Bowl champs,
Then revelers won’t allow cramps
To their partying ways
Though in past winning days
The authorities dealt with some scamps.

To prevent this, they’re using some grease
On the light poles, so this will decrease
People climbing up high
To toss things and defy
Orders shouted at them by the police.

I just read that it’s Crisco* they use,
A fact that to some will amuse.
For if they had used lard
Certain rogues would be barred –
Now the hooligans, too, can be Jews!

*a type of shortening that is kosher, which
can be used for cooking by observant Jews

Kelp At It

You know the story.
Some called it mis-
management, some
said it was original.
We know one thing
it was mirror to create
an effective strategy.
When management
changed they keep the
same format, keeping
the structure, but changing
What we knew into what we
know. Putting the status of
Current conditions on hold
to make room for recognition.
We thought they were creating
Championships to give recognition
to those who were losses in the
shuffle, stirring up the fans for a
big pop; that was included but
what we didn't know, it was the prerequisite
to our new division wrestling league.
They used two nights, two battle royals
Twenty men each, two different leagues.
These men would team, in reverse order.
The winner from one night would tag
with the first man out from a different night
Than when paired would. be set to
Go at it in a Tagteam Battle Royal.
The out come to be announced at
the battle royals conclusion.
They showed the two battle royals,
They set the date. But things never
go that easy. It takes a lot of planning
get that many people together. A couple
Managers looked out for there clients
interest, and demanded the battle royal
to be put on the first half of the show to
ensure the interest of many, won't favor
a few or one individual. They also demanded
that management would prerecord what
the surprise was, and release it elsewhere
Live during the show, during the live event.
They got what they wanted.

The match went on and, we got winners at
24:04. The Committee leaders came to the
Ring trophies and breifcases. Chairperson
Souse Slancer made the announcement.
The winners of the contest were crowned
New world tagteam champions; but we're
Named duel co-number one contenders to
the new World's Title. To be contested
Later that night! He wished them good luck
and had them separated and excited from
the ring.He announced the last team eliminated
to be number one contenders, and forfeited
the championship on behalf of the tag champs,
and named the number one contender as new
Tag champions.
