The Great Suburban Cowboy

I live in suburban Pittsburg,
but my heart yearns for western climes,
undoubtedly from watching films
that dressed up and romanticized
the sweep of the tall-grass prairie,
desert cactus and red-baked stone,
endless pines in northern forest,
Earth’s tall, Rocky Mountain bones.
Where a man could breath the air,
and hookers had those hearts of gold,
when land was cheap and any one
could be rancher proud and bold.
Maybe all this is illusion,
but there’s value in more then facts,
I’m the Great Suburban Cowboy,
and I’m comfortable with that.

My riding was learned by lessons,
ranching tricks I do not know,
I’m prone to taking trail rides,
I have never thrown a lasso.
There’s a Winchester in my case,
gets me comments down at the range,
tried Deer-hunting with it last fall,
but saw nothing out there but rain.
And I have a big hat and boots,
bull-hide with a walking heel,
occasionally, with a lady,
they have helped me seal the deal.
Went twenty seconds, my record,
on a large, mechanical bull,
I’m a Great Suburban Cowboy,
and I must live my life in full.

Of course there is much more to it
then just dressing up for the part,
there’s a code that goes with it,
makes this more than just a lark.
The honor of the old west lore
shows a man a better way,
it certainly altered my path
from my more thuggish, younger days.
Urban folks will never get me,
and the real cowboys roll their eyes,
but so far no better choice has
revealed itself to my mind.
So the old western classic films,
and the books will line my wall,
better a suburban cowboy,
than never a cowboy at all.

Premium Member Maiden of Summer

She drifts in radiance
waking nightfall with palette's hues,
tresses of amber flames drip of vibrant
sensation… and so, in the glide
of July nestling on grass and bouquets,
she waltzes through moon’s notes
with a luster of desire, bursting
into sheer madness on my glossed skin…

Oh how she flickers more dauntless
than a blend of passion and ease , flitting
like a gypsy whose spirit enters inside my pores...
And Maiden of Summer thrusts her
tanned arms fluid, raw, loving: then, to explode
into an awakened prance which enhances
love's sizzle through her open light
gently reeling with my bold adventures;

only to fade quickly in luscious splendour.

At first, the purple sunshades hide where dreams cling,
the mind is distracted by how night's feeling,
it drifts along asleep on soft feathered wing.

Now, crimson blood spurts were shapes are annealing,
form re-appears, through razor sharp, edges and seams,
the self slowly stirs, to begin the healing.

Red ochre breaks through, streaming in bright light beams,
piercing the veil, as purpose begins to rise,
shaking the cinders to scatter ash-gray dreams.

Orange inflames the will behind shut eyes,
to rush right in, to show what it held on hold,
sending hot flames aloft, to lighten dark skies.

Yellow crowns the day-break with buttercup gold.
The mind and soul, now awake, can stand up bold!

Premium Member The Glance

With a single glance
I imagine a lifetime dance
The scent of you
the things we’ll do
Somehow it rings true
as I walk towards you

Those lips and brown eyes
Cause my spirit to rise
Your voice and face
Fill time and space
Your outline my eyes trace
as I envision your body in lace

True love begs to come to fruition
You and me is my mission
Within your eyes I see
a passion that sets us both free
Without doubt I know what will be
We’ll live within and beyond ecstasy

Imagination is a powerful thing
On your lovely finger a ring
Together witnessing our future unfold
Young to middle age then old
courage favours the bold
You are the one I love and hold.

When you know you know
Dedicated to my sweetie
Coming up to 28 years of amazing.

The Enemy
By: Tom Wright
2/22/03

In our despair, time appears, always to creep,
and during enjoyable hours, time appears to rush.
There's no escape, to heavens high or oceans deep,
for both the animate and inanimate, time will crush.

Time, appears to crawl on velvety paws, being stealth,
and finite, for we have both inception and end.
Nor does time separate, between poverty or wealth,
even used wisely, we shan't see our days extend.

Never borrowed, bought, bartered, or sold,
time makes no resolutions, being void of feelings.
It is said time is saved by the foolish and bold,
in it's use each day, in thought and dealings.

While I grapple with concepts, dawn hours creep
I hold, perchance, that this necessitates haste.
Harkening for velvety footsteps, absent a peep,
as Time, the enemy of all, is laying me waste.

Inside Of Us

Written By: D. Collins 5/16/25

God deliberately put what's inside of us.
A big, bold person waiting to raise up.
He gives us ambition and unlimited drive.
The will to do something while we're alive.

There is genious built inside of all of us.
Waiting to explode and really turn it up.
What happens in the head can come to life.
As long as we believe there is no height.

We, The People, have just what it takes.
To move forward without hitting the brakes.
We're exceptional from the core to the crust.
And God only knows there ain't nobody like us.

Don't make yourself smaller
Determine: walk taller

Be a friendship adorer
A - phone your mates - caller

Don't squirrel away
All your treasures each day

Your wonderful existence
You light-up with your essence

There is love all around you
You don't see it but we do

Your spine, it should straighten
We can't bottle or patent

All this fabulous You-ness
Let's be honest it's priceless

So big shout to you, beauty
You're a loveable cutie

Not just in your reflection
It's our inside detection

That we honour and clap for
From you, couldn't ask more

Be bold and courageous
In your kindness outrageous

You are generous-gifted
As our spirits are lifted

While we breathe in your presence
With your joy effervescence

So, wherever you started
You've ended big-hearted

And your height not in inches
So impressiveness clinches

In each lovely encounter
Say "we like you" 'cos we're bound t'

Bridge the Gap

A bold and burly bridge, beams of cantilever.
Pillars of concrete ridge, confluence of the river.

The callipers however quiver..
"Hey distant shores," shrieked the bridge with shiver.
"Shake your hands, you're so close, reach out to your neighbour.

The river wailed," Oh! my shores!, they are not near and dear.
I have seen them only shout, I don't think they can hear."
Across million drops of blood and tear, you're a bridge of terror and fear.
Compassion...? Can you bear?"

Religions race in different pace, the hatred, can you endure?
Riches allure the poor for sure, the economy, can you secure?

The crafty fringe of lunatics and nasty impinge of tricks...
The loose hinge of politics, the connect is a raft of Quick-Fix...."

Abuse with binge all over, "Hey !! Who will build the bridge?
The builders? they plunder and siege..
They breach their very own speech...
the other end never will reach...

Give us the bridge of faith and a river of peace to bathe.
With Love and Hope in every breath....
Help us cross the mainstream, the chasm of life and death.

Premium Member The Scent Of Danger

Take me out of my head with your head.
Now forgive me, but bold is my baseline.
Make no mistake I must be comfortable,
drawn in by the depth of conversation.

Now forgive me, but bold is my baseline.
I want you to taste my entire body.
Drawn in by the depth of conversation,
please take me even deeper inside.

I want you to taste my entire body,
never stopping to come up for air.
Please take me even deeper inside,
just don’t forget the way back out.

Never stopping to come up for air,
how long can you handle the pressure?
Just don’t forget the way back out,
danger smells better than protection.

How long can you handle the pressure?
Make no mistake I must be comfortable.
Danger smells better than protection,
take me out of my head with your head.
