If food for finer thoughts we did not crave,
If sense of purpose we did not apply,
If we did not critique how we behave,
If dormant laid Alert Judgmental Eye…
If float and breed were our exclusive wish,
If instincts solely spurred us to survive,
We might as well be just a school of fish -
Not learning about deep currents of Life.
If we ran loose, not playing by the rules,
If years weren’t measured by the days we seize,
We might as well be just a pack of wolves -
With hungry jaws and reflex to appease.
If loyalty and trust weren’t our guide,
If fam’ly failed to withstand the Time,
We might as well be lions, without pride -
Where govern male rivalry and crime.
If we ignored the term - Personal Growth,
Meandering complacently in awe,
We might as well be just a slack of sloth -
With sluggish status quo, seeking no more.
If benefits of thought we didn’t reap,
If mindful property we didn’t hold dear,
We might as well be just a herd of sheep -
That sacrificed their free will out of fear.
Brushing aside the Kingdom of the Wild,
Place on a pedestal a Human Mind.
With love and progress equally aligned
Let’s be the best we can, one of a Kind.
As to Judgmental Eye, its primal goal -
To keep our planet safe and civil,
By virtue of Grey Matter, above all -
To distinguish between good and evil.

And there’s a Charlie
A character curiously cartooning
One of the Charlie’s careening and in crusade
Maybe someday he’ll be in a Macy Day parade
Charlie Chicken 1942 anthropomorphic chicken
And there’s Charlie Beary, a big daddy bear
Charlie of the Chocolate Factory, making all those chocolate candies
And there’s Charlie
A character curiously cartooning
One of the Charlie’s careening and in crusade
Maybe someday he’ll be in a Macy Day parade
Chuckle Charlie Finster
Picture always in the funny papers
Charles B. Barkin, was a dog, who went to heaven
Come eat with me play games for free
Chuck E. Cheese
And there’s Charlie
A character curiously cartooning
One of the Charlie’s careening and in crusade
Maybe someday he’ll be in a Macy Day parade
Old Charlie Dog little orphan Airedale
Charlie the Tuna fishing sooner
And there’s Charlie's stop curiously cartooning and careening with me laugh out loud
What’s with all these Charlies now?

Often I have been plagued
by highs and lows--
pill pushers
would love to get their hands
on me;
put their label on me
and tell my wife:
"Shake well before using:
may cause stomach cramps
insomnia
and occasionally
a great work of art."
But now with computers
it's easy to print our own
(labels, that is)--
or license to practice medicine
or death certificate
save on the same disc
with a thousand
of our best and worst photos
curses
blessings;
somehow ram is important--
why do I picture
this sardonic creature with horns?
Remember the old TV's?
We called the antenna "Rabbit Ears";
We give anthropomorphic qualities
to our favorites,
and send the rest to institutions....
Anthropomorphic in nature, I stand
The last of the letters, the final brand
My sharp edges, my zigzag form
Distinctive and unique, a letter born
I am not like A, B, or C
I am not as common, as you can see
I am a letter of surprise
A letter that makes you realize
I am the sound of a buzzing bee
The zip of a zipper, wild and free
I am the end of the alphabet
The letter you can never forget
I stand tall with pride, and I shout
I am the letter Z, no doubt
I may be the last, but I am not least
I am the letter that never ceases to feast
Feast on words, and sounds, and songs
A letter that belongs
In every language, every tongue
A letter that's forever young
Anthropomorphic in nature, I may be
But I am more than just a letter, you see
I am the final stroke of a pen
The last word, the end.

What would an alien look like?
Would you see an alien standing next to you?
Why should an alien look anything like you,
with arms, legs, head, eyes and ears?
Most aliens out there are different forms of life.
Invisible to the naked eye.
Perhaps not organic, based on water and carbon,
But invisible, totally foreign, undetectable.
"Who are you to call me an alien?"
"Anthropomorphic bigot, that is who you are"
"We've been here all along, on our earth, in our solar system,
living our own lives in peace, undetected by you guys"
"Ignorance is bliss, be content that you do not know"
"What would you do anyway, if you knew we were here, right now?"

A Multitude of Notions
Subsonic phonic interference with my ailing mind
Bubonic pneumonic incoherence at the passing of these times
Hedonic tonic maladherence to the rules of constructed rhyme
Neurotic moronic disappearance of the complex and defined
Palentology and mysogony make for an unpleasant combination
Archeology and phenomenology predate the current conversation
Numerology and autonomy form a starstruck invocation
Epistemology and ideology culminate in complex connotations
Radiant cosmological constellations inspire wonder and awe
Gradient chronological extrapolations graphing out what all of this is for
Salient anatomical combinations leave the post surgical patient raw
Valiant ethological consternations distinguish the greedy from the poor
Astounded by the notion of another concept to illustrate
Confounded by the commotion of the latest political debate
Impounded by devotion to the church, leaders and state
Resounded by emotion as it begins to culminate
Anthropomorphic projections by an unusual mind
Isomorphic reflections on the state of all mankind
Nonmetaphoric infections that keep you humble and refined
Heteromorphic injections that leave you perpetually unkind
Illuminated thought forms streaming down from a twighlight sky
Communicated societal norms leaves the question firmly stated as why?
Automated technological reforms leaves the humans passing by
Captivated innocence is reborn as each man prepares to die

Rumors of War
War, war, rumors of war,
Whispered on the winds
Screamed from the rooftops.
Who does it benefit,
What is it good for?
I can tell you this as someone
Who has known it in a million lifetimes
Hand to hand, across trenches,
Behind ramparts and within
Tanks and Hellfire missiles,
It’s not the soldiers, or generals
Nor even their countries
Who ever come out on top.
It is simply humanity
Willing to sacrifice one band for another
So the germ can spread,
Steeled in conflict, hardened by fire
Purified in the sacrifice
Like a virgin on the crest
Of a mighty pyramid.
And when it comes to us
Where will we be?
Cheering in the crowd
Or running for the hills,
Or perhaps hiding in the sewers
Laying low
Waiting for the perfect shot.

Artists are not so different,
at times glossing over truth,
hiding beneath a sheen --
some extra linseed goes
a long way...
What is this cry for realism?!
Picasso sought deeper meaning
via grotesque breasts~ elongated
elephant snout limbs -- perhaps believing that
the human tale needed elevation, himself
turned off by surface vistas; his squares and
points dulled by well turned chips, projected
missile-scraps flying from Leonardo's festive lathe of
tantalizing symmetries --
We marvel equally at
Dali's vaulted extremes, teetering balance --
a bleeding martyr of old Faith; despite all his
fiend distortions, imagined glorification~
dear, yet mere echoes, stills from the sable of
an unrequited Christian brush --
So...is the poet so different?
The Metaphysical digs, tunnels,
(anthropomorphic God)
chambers and catacombs to romp
about -- secretly displacing what
would otherwise be a straightforward
pleasant lyrical walk -- We
confound paint and words
presenting two types of portrait
of the same elusive image
the greater decipher, if there is
one to be had, will never be the
product of personal tribulation,
but the spirit behind, within, carefully
feathering, dotting and dashing
each of man's extended biographies --
a dance of human veils....

Beneath the shades
of velvet shadows
swarms of amber
luminance of daylight
and elusive flits
of faerie embers.
Veiled in jeweled which
rhymed with
Calyx elixir tints
of moonlit hues,
wings of light fractals
of burnished baubles.
Serendipitous breeze
scribbling rimes
of a runic serenade
in glints of jades
and emeralds.
wisps of wood smoke
soft mists of
Myrrh and Frankincense
fragrance of
Amyris and Bergamot.
Life has been beckoned.
by the sun messenger.
In that aurifying light,
crisscrossing balmily
and all at once.
With your shifting cloak,
snail
silver tree,
life is futile
& vain as smoke.
with your beshrews roads
case of curiosity
devoted to
the art of taxidermy,
decorative, restorative
and anthropomorphic.
A canorous dream,
capacious
mellifluous
Hurry past me!
I stitched your names into the seams of sleep,
Where shadows whisper secrets I can’t keep.
The night became a chapel of your breath,
A sacred, suffocating hymn to death.
I lit my thoughts like candles in your name,
Each flicker feeding softly on the flame;
Anaphora of longing—you, you, you—
A prayer that burned the world until it’s through.
My heart, a drowning clock that will not cease,
Ticks tidal rhythms, begging you for peace.
But peace is foreign where your ghost resides—
A storm that blooms beneath my ribcage tides.
If to love you, I must drown—I cried,
And drank the depths where all my reason died.
A hyperbolic ocean filled my chest,
Where sanity sank slowly with the rest.
Your absence claws like ivy through my veins,
An anthropomorphic ache that grows with pains;
Each pulse a petal poisoned by your hue,
Each breath a borrowed moment spent on you.
I loved you louder than the world could bear,
A fleeting breath—no oxygen, just air
That never reached me, hollow, thin, and bleak,
A love so vast it made my spirit weak.
I carved your memory into every dawn,
‘Till even time forgot to travel on.
Obsession wore your face and called it fate,
And I—its willing martyr—learned too late.
