The simple pleasure of seeing a smile
is something we’ve not enjoyed for a while.
To exhale freely is such a relief;
that we ever got here: beyond belief.
Flying has likely the safest of air
that you will encounter most anywhere.
Those HEPA filters all work overtime
scrubbing the air of viruses and grime.
It is so nice to be able to read;
the glasses don’t fog; it’s easy to breathe.
There still isn’t legroom; that part’s still tight,
but this is a flight where it all just seems right.
Flying’s not one of my favorite tasks,
but this one’s better: no mandates for masks.
Airlines charge for luggage now
Although that once was free.
They make a mint demanding
That all flyers pay a fee.
They also charge for food and drink
And “extra” legroom, too.
We grouse and grumble but there’s not
A lot that we can do.
And now I hear they’re sinking
To an even lower low.
There’ll be a cost for bins that hold
The smaller things we stow.
United’s at the forefront
Of this latest air offense,
To build their coffers quickly
At the passengers’ expense.
I just signed a petition
That will underscore this view.
In the meantime, when I’m flying,
I’ll stay loyal to JetBlue.*
*which still doesn’t charge for
luggage and gives free snacks, too
Small humble home that I was raised
inside these walls I spent most of my days
Legroom was sparse in our tiny address
things always cluttered and sometimes a mess
We lacked riches, money was tight
sometimes we’d laugh, and sometimes we’d fight
People would ask how we lived in this way
now looking back I would not trade a day
Although we were cramped, had no room to spare
our hearts were gigantic with love to share
