As the leaves begin to fall on this Autumn season of mine
I sit by my window and sip on a glass of Chardonnay wine
Wrapping a shawl around my frail shoulders I sit and long
for the days when I was vivacious, beautiful and strong
The misty morning clouds have parted gently in the sky
I'm lost in the memory of a friend that abruptly had to fly
She lived miles away in a warm land where flowers glow
beneath a yellow hibiscus sun, where pineapples grow
I try and picture her beneath a Koa tree of fervent bloom
and while the sun is setting here inside my heated room
A tiny bird fly's by, she's a brownie soft majestic cisticola
I imagine its Connie waving her hand and saying, Aloha!
As the leaves turn burnt orange and red with amber blush
I recall the things she said from her soul of golden plush
Life is made up of many seasons as Autumn turns to gold
my heart recalls and in my mind, she will never grow old.

I lift the sleeve of time and years
To a little grass hut that brings wistful tears
for fragrant leis and Koa bowls
For rainbows arc-and friendly souls.

Caren, whose poetry sings with grand plumage,
swims with bouquets of flowers and such. You
inspire me! And aloha to William :)
HAWAII
Bird of paradise, plumeria, jasmine,
orchids, gardenia, hibiscus, primrose.
Aloha sea — paradise welcomes thee.
Cup of gold, elephant’s ear, fuchsia and firecrackers.
Lantana, glory bush, pineapple and Waikiki.
Queen Emma lily, prickly pear, silversword and sugarcane.
Hawaii islands erupting with ecstasies —
scents that rise the temperature, hues that squeal with desire,
cascading sounds of God’s mirth, adventure on steroids.
Come in, ebb and flow in dugout boats - leis floating
upon the deep-blue skies. Your hearts are pounding drums.
Don’t be shy. Grab this shelf of paradise. Don’t let go.
Aloha friends! Let’s all be friends. Planes fly in.
Koa, coconut, ‘ohi’ a lehua, candlenut, monkeypod,
noni, and lemon-scented gum. Mahalo nui!*
O’ahu, Maui, Kaua’i, Big, Lana’i and Moloka’i —
find your serenity, your northern shore, the allure
of life. Grab yourself a blue hawaii, piña colada,
mai tai, mimosa. Fill your cups with Eden’s fruit.

I'm on my way to Butte Montana,
where the mountains reach the sky,
and the eagles soar way up high,
folks are friendly and give you a smile,
it's the Montana way of saying stay awhile.
I'm on my way to Butte Montana,
need a change of scenery,
where the forests are full of greenery,
ranches spread throughout the land,
cowboys on horses roping calves to brand.
I'm on my way to Butte Montana,
it is where I am bound,
praying a job will be found,
my lonely saddle needs a horse to ride
so I can rope cattle with some pride.
I'm on my way to Butte Montana,
with shiny boots and a new ten-gallon hat,
making me feel like a big fat cat,
as I act like a polite and handsome dude
so all the ladies will not find me rude.
I'm on my way to Butte Montana,
staying a night at a KOA Campground
with folks who are from all around,
sharing a campfire with sparkling and glowing heat,
knowing this is the life that cannot be beat.

The continuing Saga of Zack Waverly
The Shoot Out At The KOA Corral
Six more days of dust and heat
along this lonely trail,
Although I thought
'Til I caught sight
of a horse, quite sick, and frail
There was no saddle on his back
no bridle and no reins
and as I rode a little closer
I could see he was in pain
I left my horse, canteen in hand
approached him very slow
Careful not to spook him off
I kept my voice quite low
and poured some water
in my palm and cradled every drop
and how he lapped the water up
I'ld thought he'd never stop
It took some time, to build some trust
Understanding his position
Tired, sick and all along
And in, such poor condition
I wondered who the owner was
who would treat a live like this
and so I looked and found the brand
which really made me pis*ed
It's been some years since I had seen
a brand that looked that way
but there it was, I knew because
I'd worked for KOA

THE LOST SOULS SALOON Page 7
I pushed aside the swinging doors
And stepped out on the street
My poor horse stood, alone all night
without a thing to eat
I led him by the reins
As we turned to make our way
In hopes to find some oats
Or perhaps a bail of hay
And as we walked so slowly
Just drifting out of town
I couldn't help but looking back
And so I turned around
For a moment, thought I saw
vaguely catching just a trace
In a window, 'bove the bar
Of a ghost-like woman's face
I'll never know, if it was real
Or just a torrid dream
But doomed to wander in a world
Where nothing's as it seems
THE END
Zack will be back In
SHOOT OUT at the KOA CORRAL

A sweet little face, almost cherub-like, so round,
Soft and furry, with eyes so very warm and brown.
Bubbly little fella that makes you just want to cuddle,
Yet he just wants to sit in his tree, not be any trouble.
He just hangs around, chomping eucalyptus leaves,
Just trying to stay out of sight, high up in the trees.
His chatter is rarely heard, he is really very quiet,
Unless he gets excited, then he can cause a riot.
His little nose, is black and shiny, almost like leather
His ears wide and flat, and hold his head together.
He waddles when he walks, his little body jiggles.
And when he gets excited, his ears begin to wiggle.
There is no cuter fella, in all the animal world by far
With young and old alike, he is a bright and shiny star!
If you ever have the chance to spend some time with him,
You are in the presence of one of natures precious gems!
