Listen to poem:
As the leaves begin to fall on this Autumn season of mine
I sit by my window and sip on a glass of Chardonnay wine
Wrapping a shawl around my frail shoulders I sit and long
for the days when I was vivacious, beautiful and strong
The misty morning clouds have parted gently in the sky
I'm lost in the memory of a friend that abruptly had to fly
She lived miles away in a warm land where flowers glow
beneath a yellow hibiscus sun, where pineapples grow
I try and picture her beneath a Koa tree of fervent bloom
and while the sun is setting here inside my heated room
A tiny bird fly's by, she's a brownie soft majestic cisticola
I imagine its Connie waving her hand and saying, Aloha!
As the leaves turn burnt orange and red with amber blush
I recall the things she said from her soul of golden plush
Life is made up of many seasons as Autumn turns to gold
my heart recalls and in my mind, she will never grow old.
