A west wind turned the blackness into blue
as down the streets umbrellas packed away
bright sunshine washed the pavements and the cue
for all to step out and enjoy the day.
Old ladies picked their way down to the shore
the children squealed as cold waves slapped their knees
a dog licked spilt ice cream from off the floor
Kittiwake held station in the breeze.
We stood in the North sea, just feet apart
the stresses of the year now losing grip
holding hands like some childhood sweethearts
but with a walking stick in case she'd slip
To sum up, for a cure to all your woes
you cannot beat some sand between your toes.
