Bete Noir

I knew
she was poison,
but

as a young man
with jug ears
and pimples
I gladly held out my glass
for more
deadly nightshade.

She said
she liked poetry
but
it was obvious
she had no taste
for mine,

nevertheless

I give it a shot
and when
I had done
I sensed a door
in her
mind
slamming shut

She was a
beauty
and far too
lovely
to be seen
with me

so

we ended up
at her place
a small
apartment
saturated
with the funk
of joss sticks.

She read me
some poetry
of her
own

occasionally
glowering my way
to see if I were
paying attention,
it seemed obvious
that I had failed her test.

No

- no sex

we had
a 1 on 1
counseling session,
I was the hapless client,

and
quickly judged
unfit
to imbibe
her special
shade of
toxin.

To All

Being melancholy confusion,

saying seriously that we are who we are,

that mountain of dandruff was what we saw,

they all lose anyways so why not chop it off?

At the sound,

at the towns,

we were liverworts and lackadaisical not?

They were who people are on the loft and at the Joss?

Hey, they travel,

they toll and they site the soul,

but we readers in perfect time aren’t even gold,

we smell coal,

and drink danger-

and make the erasers plainer!!

Hey lady-

do me some danger,

read into it and feel free to withstand litany on the stilt!

Break the core who cannot mold...

They once stated in an outcast that the chasm's fill-

I once grazed against a song that was outdated and needed will.

Small gathering
Chat and booze;
Cheer mixes well

Public outcry
Corrupt cult;
Reduced sentence

Words retreat
Darkness floods;
Cicadas chatter

~~~~~~~~~
By temple facade
Glimpse mindful maze;
Karmic winds
~~~~~~~~~

Joy greets
Sorrows teary;
Compromise

Hot news today
Discounted appeal;
Sentences halved

~~~~~~~~~
Squirrel zigzag
Tree trunk track;
Curious tact
~~~~~~~~~

Walkway parade
Busy bodies fly past;
Workday side show

~~~~~~~~~
Lamplight glow
Evening interlude;
Bedtime story
Faces familiar
Evening meal here;
Gourmet finesse
Note book scribbles
Tentative words stretch;
Meandering take
Copy write
Clever glimpses;
Highlight ideas
Water colour sketch
Tints and hues blot;
Emergent picture
Prayer time
Temple bells;
Joss sticks smoke
By serene temple grounds,
We kinsmen gather round;
Say our prayers profound,
Joss-stick fumes now surround.
An unbroken chain spells,
Heed the loud temple bells;
Family ties weave tell
In chanting trance that dwells.
We come here to commune,
Our prayer tokens tune;
Let grateful hearts attune,
Watch the smoky ash runes.
Knowing the life we see,
Seed common mystery,
Poise of eternity,
Stillness in harmony.
Before life a sure feel,
This mortal life a thrill;
Then after life reveals
An unending appeal.
The soul comes round and round,
Upon these earthly grounds;
Life lives not lost but found
In grace and light and sound.
Learn then to purge all fear,
For love seeds zest sincere;
Live joy and peace that cheers,
Life goes on in all spheres.
The death of flesh transits,
Life of another wit;
Love poise in easy fit,
Discern the truth in bits.
