hummingbirds fly fast
eating nectar from flowers
oh I love these birds
It is sunny
It is raining, it is thundering
It is autumn
From waking up to sleeping.
The leaves are dry and passive
And the flowers are dead and inactive
Later, it is snowing
The neighbors of the inn
See the deer pass by
All the holy day long
And during the whole evening
We feel the change of the nerves
To welcome the new season
Where we are far from the harvest.
We can hear from very far away
The wind humming in the hay
The vibrations are not monotonous
Since the hummingbirds of the hills
Make their spectacular presence felt
And the poets in the imaginary gardens
Describe everything that happens
In the country where the mass
Remains insensitive, benighted and glaikit
And where the elected corruptors boast.
It is sunny
It is raining, it is thundering
It is autumn
From waking up to sleeping.

Hummingbirds have taken flight
Packed their suitcases late last night
If I am good, they truly might
Return next spring on wings of a kite
are the hummingbirds still around?
I feel guilty
have not refreshed their feeder in ten days
are they lingering near, hoping I will remember?
Have I killed them?
will they ever come back?
it is mid October
but unusually warm at seventy-four degrees.
I decide to replenish their food
feeling better now
Tiny wings a blur,
Ruby throat a flash of light,
Sweet nectar they seek.
bright ruby and green
flash dance across the garden.
humming and twirling
sipping from flowers
they zigzag helter-skelter
savoring each drop
chirping their pleasure
as they drink nature’s treasure
suddenly they’re gone
Larger than raindrops, with wee sword-like beaks,
A hummingbird laughs, but the bird never speaks.
They flit and they dart, and they never stand still.
They're wings are mystic, per each quivering quill.
The hummingbird's laughing while airborne in place,
Wings flapping like static, and suspended in space.
Watch avian magic, see nature's winged might,
They're elegant creatures that can hover in flight.
Who claims Mother Nature has no sense of delight?
She snickers at hummingbirds laughing in flight.
What's really strange about this magical bird?
It's always laughing, but it's never been heard.
The secret of its laughter, like the secret of its flight,
Has everybody guessing, but no one gets it right
Maybe that's the secret only hummingbirds share,
The fact that their laughter...dissolves in t he air.

the ruby-throated
humming bird
of ontario nests...
in tiny plant flower cups...
bound together with
spider silk then feeds on
the nectars and spiders...
to yield two grams of fat...
that fuels eight hundred miles
of seasonal flight north
or south from woodlands...
and gardens to...
other woodlands
and gardens to
feed off flowers...

Beautiful small-sized birds,
They flutter their colourful wings,
Their chirping sounds ring,
They rest on a line preening their plumage,
They colour my day,
They inspire my sojourn,
Nature's beautiful gifts.

Amidst dulcet tones of mid-day
a friendly hum tickles my ear
before rollicking into view
My eyes cavort, my head does sway
I'm led in dance as it draws near
cool in temper and warm in hue
Its beauty boasts in modest May
its curiosity sincere
now where there was one, there are few
A rainbow of colors array
these flying jewels, I endear
we share a smile then bid adieu
Moments of frisson, chill the arm
as a witness to nature's Charm
nature small-sized gifts
in their resplendent colours...
preening and flying
display of colours
the emergence of beauty...
art and skillfulness

rainbow hues herald heartfelt hum of hummingbird
dubious drone of bees and chain saws
purple majesty presents to a giant azure eye
garden of dull pink fuzzy hollyhocks
faeries, gnomes and brownies linger near
lavender wings lavish peace and enchantment
hummingbird’s azure head peers into relaxing retina mirror
turquoise collar matches delving human’s eyes
hummingbird's green mimics garden's fresh carrot stems
flickering breath steams up the mirror of love
fresh citrus orange follows her as she flies backwards
angels are watching from heaven above
she flits from lilac to daisy giving preference to roses
beautiful creatures,
multi-coloured long-beaked birds…
nature’s small-sized gifts.
