Premium MemberAs a child every holiday was a surprise

When I was a child, every holiday was a surprise
teachers had us designing jack-o-lanterns and cutting out ghosts
this is how I had an inkling Halloween was afoot

It seemed like we were tracing our fingers to make turkeys the next week
Christmas was thrown at us by the music teacher.
We did not have an art teacher back in the day
our teacher was our art teacher

There was no winter program
there was a Christmas program
No one had ever heard the term politically correct

As an adult I can finally predict when the holidays are arriving
They come fast and furiously every year, like tornadoes and windstorms

Premium MemberSleigh bells ring

Jingle bells adorn the sleigh.
Family ride makes the holidays delightfully merry.
Blankets shield us from the cold.

Premium MemberCRIMSON MATRIARCH OF MAPLEWOOD

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
She descends the trunk upside-down, skirts flaring like spilled cranberry wine~ a furry scandal in December. Her tail flicks twice, aristocratic, as she steals the last candied almond from your gift basket. Her neighbors whisper~ no one dares reprimand a lady who wears winter better than the holly.
Powdered sugar atop the village.
Sweetened memories guaranteed throughout this year's holidays.
Premium MemberHoilday Sprite Drink
Winter Spice Cranberry Sprite
a winter holiday delight.
It comes in November when preparing Thanksgiving abounds
On the grocery soda shelf holiday Sprite is found
Really don't taste cranberries that spice flavor unique
But it has become one of my favorite holiday drinks
Smells like Christmas evening after all enjoy and done
Tip offed with a holiday Sprite and reflecting festive fun
Sometimes you don't want liquor nor drinks warm or hot
That's when holiday Sprite refreshing taste hits the spot
It's fun when the bubbles tickle your nose amused
It's sophisticated taste both kids and adults choose
So if holidays are hectic and feel a little overwhelming
Take a break with a holiday Sprite and revive that holiday feeling.
Holiday Fun Limerick contest- Santa, Frosty, Rudolph or Elf - set of 3 Poetry Contest
Tania Kitchin
Frosty's eyes began to dance for his date
He had plans and didn't want to be late
There be dinner and a show
And perhaps a bed of snow
So he sang a tune and hurried his gait
His midnight hour starts at a neighbor's yard
There she stood for him, all regal and starred
They planned to sled far away
And watch the moon and stars sway
And, well, share a Frosty and his trump card
Frosty thought he had set the best-laid plan
For their lovemaking began to trans span
The heat made their bodies melt
And soon their demise was dealt
Frosty had died a jolly good snowman
Frosty was tired of his old carrot nose
And that it drooped down daily when it froze
He replaced it with a pen
But too soon it leaked and then,
He was covered in blue to his elbows
Jack Frost wanted to have a hot pink drink
Not worried it may make the snowflakes stink
He downed a hot toddy,
Left him feeling shoddy
Snowflakes are now falling tiny and pink
The Christmas elf wanted to try to sing
But his voice could only jingle and ping
He threw himself down,
His voice made no sound
He could only make his jingle bells ring
Premium MemberA Humbugger's Bah's
This time of year inspires oohs and ahs
Waltzing dreams in the snow's camouflage
There seems to be some flaws
In this legendary cause
To many-a humbugger's bah's
And through winter thoughts meander
And we ask others in candor
Do you believe in [I pause]
This elusive Santa Claus
Sorry if I am raising your dander
Premium MemberFun In The Sun
Laid out on the beach in that warm tropical sun
Winter is on hold, while I am here to experience heaven and have some fun
The ocean waters with their bright colours call out to me to take a dip
First I must finish my mai tai with one last sip
My whole body I hope soon will turn a golden brown
Music fills the air with its soothing sounds
As I hit the water those rushing waves came in to welcome me
Never in my entire life have I felt so carefree
Out on the horizon, sailboats glide by with the help of a gentle breeze
I am going to savor every moment before I must return to the deep freeze
My camera is full of great pictures, giving me access to memories I will never forget
Leaving winter for summer is something you will never live to regret
Premium MemberChristmas time!
Premium MemberFollow The Light
Hot Sun whispers 'Go out and play.'
your spirit cannot disobey
it's a piece of the Milky Way
The darkest day, the darkest day;
Colored stars ignite a long night,
poetry the softest sound bite;
Peace is now colored chestnut white;
Follow the light, follow the light.
Premium MemberTropical Vacation
In our haste to pack, we left winter behind
Easy to forget with thoughts of paradise filling our minds
As we depart from the plane we are met with the warmth of the sun
Relaxation has surely taken over leading to a week of endless fun
Strolling on the beach hand and hand
Our feet are greeted by the sparkling sand
As day turns to night a romantic dinner at sea awaits
A perfect evening for love we need to create
Dolphins glide by across the pristine turquoise ocean
All in sync with their effortless motion
The silence in the air is broken as a mariachi band starts to play
What a pleasure to be part of such a wonderful day
Premium MemberNature Dresses For the Holidays
Lamplight waves stretch across the river
as the snowfall casts its glassy arms across
the shimmering river.
Wreaths hung on lampposts exude cheer to passers-by
as Sol bows his head for a moment of pre-twilight
silence in this idyllic place.
Fireside chats reverberate from among the
snow-laden rooftops and the soft whispers of
falling stars cast their whispers to the early
winter winds, beneath sunset skies.
Golden light spreads its' yellow haze to brighten
a lonely snowman's evening; even the dog delights in
this Rockwellian scene of hope at Christmastime.
It's a night of peace for new beginnings
yet to come.
