Hot Dog

On the 4th of July, there are fireworks shows
And barbecues, picnics and beer,
But there’s a tradition not everyone knows
For which only a few volunteer.

It’s a contest to see who can gobble the most
Hot dogs, eaten together with buns
And the winner, with trophy, gets mostly to boast
He can do what the average guy shuns.

The champ, Joey Chestnut, secured a new win,
His 12th victory, pleasing his fans.
With his mouth opened wide, he did shovel them in,
Though his numbers fell short of his plans.

In just 10 minutes’ time, there were 71
That were chewed and made way down his throat,
Though last year it was 74 (each with bun);
Still, his effort got everyone’s vote.

As a watcher from home, I admit that, to me,
The whole contest is utterly gross
And I surely expected that on the TV
Some contestant would be comatose.

Premium MemberHoliday Anxiety

Christmas
Halloween
4th of July
Three big holidays
Full of vivid memories

All big holidays come with
Enormously incredulous hype
Each remembered fondly
Years later as much better than they were

Insecure moms determined to make this year’s
Holiday meal, decor, costumes and presents
The best one ever, lugging in junk to
Make it the best one yet, wearing themselves
out, to win the best ever yet contest

Sad in the end when they realize once again
Things went terribly wrong, because someone
Tried way too hard, and we are not living in
Hallmark movies.

Real people in crabby moods, smothered by anxiety,
overwhelmed yearly by perpetual disappointment and rage.

Premium MemberPenny For the Guy

For Bonfire Night: Nov. 5 in England

Watch the rockets shoot into the sky.
Wave your sparklers till their sparkles die.
Watch the Catherine Wheel spin her delight -
whirls of red, yellow-gold, green and white.

Give the guy a penny, for he deserves no more.
Smoke him as you roast hot chestnuts giving him "what for"!
Lose yourself in the revelry of celebration’s hum.
As *cracker jacks are popping, recall where this all comes from!

11/28/16 for the Contest of Shadow Hamilton
*cracker jacks are a popcorn and peanut snack Americans eat at baseball games so I hope the definition I found for it is the one you mean, Shadow!! It was good to learn about this holiday. It's a bit like our 4th of July!

This Fourth of July

This 4th Of July

To my fellow Americans,
during this 4th of July.
I have a thought.. . Here's why…

When we salute our flag
 ever so grand.
Our country's foundation
 is sinking in "quicksand."

This is because. From God...
We're way "off course."
Driven by lust, greed
 and an "immorality force ."

Our ungodly government
 continues to rule.
Anything of God has been
removed from the school.

We hear of "separation of
church and state."
Anything of God...
Many people seem to hate!

America! Listen to what
this message is about!
Everything of God is
slowly being taken out!

We must return to Jesus!...
He gives true freedom indeed!.
The truth word of God’s .
Our country must read!

Living for God is worth the cost!
Without HIM...
 America is forever lost!

Happy French Defeated Day

He raised his glass, then sipped his beer.
Gringos all then raised a cheer!
"To Mexico!" Hear them cry, "Oh!"
"Today is good old Cinco de Mayo!"

"To freedom for old Mexico!"
Their 4th of July so we've been told.
"The day they earned their independence."
"The day they won for their descendents!"

"Señor, I think your book has cracks.
I think you need to check your facts.
Our independence is in the Fall.
About us, you seem to have built a wall."

"Buenos dias, señor" he would say.
"And happy Battle of Puebla Day."
Oh my, who could ever tell?
"Happy Cinco de Mayo to you as well!"

The 4th of July

Fireworks in the air yes it is
One of my favorite summer
Days of the year July 4th lets
Celebrate barbeque with good
Food do not hesitate to eat with
Family and friends at the time
That 12:00am hits let’s say happy
4th of July.

4th of July Freedom

4TH of JULY
freedom fireworks break
the sky is mine hot
delight sight light tight blue lake

This Independence Day July 4th

To my fellow Americans,
during this 4th of July.
I have a thought.. . Here's why…

When we salute our flag
 ever so grand.
Our country's foundation
 is sinking in "quicksand."

This is because. From God...
We're way "off course."
Driven by lust, greed
 and an "immorality force ."

Much ungodliness continues to rule.
As God has been
removed from our schools!

We hear of "separation of
church and state."
Anything of God...
Many people seem to hate!

After Christmas Sigh

All gift's delivered

Some few still under the tree,

Voices filled with thanks!

Children jumping with glee...

Now we sit and sigh

Making plans for the 4th of July,

And Valentine's day

Easter,

and so many more

In celebration of something,

Another Birthday for someone we adore...

There is money to be spent,

In spite of the economy

We rework our budgets wishing we were worry free.

Ah, but someone was happy today

twas Christmas, 'twas Christmas,

Happy 4th of July

Raise your flag wear your red white and blue

Commemorate independence and keep it close to you

Have a cook out or go to a parade

Never forget the sacrifice others have made

Observe the holiday take pride in America’s liberty

But remember always freedom doesn’t come free

Gather with friends and family to celebrate in your own way

Honor democracy on the nations birthday

See the fireworks as they light up the sky

Treasure the legacy for which we stand for and happy 4th of July

4th of July

Independence and freedom started it all

Respect history always as you celebrate and recall

Know the blood that was spilled and the tears shed

So we could enjoy our rights from the fallen that led

From religion to voting to the freedom of speech

Learn the lesson from the patriots that they tried to teach

That freedom isn’t free that it comes with a cost

Lets never forget it or our freedoms might be lost

Lets give thanks and remembrance as we pray to the sky

May God bless America and happy 4th of July

I have a question. Here's why;

Everything of God is
slowly being taken out!

We must return to Jesus...
Our freedom indeed.
This is the right direction our
country must lead.

Godly living is worth the cost.
For without God...
 America is forever
doomed and lost!
